Some relevant quotes:
We conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to understand how early-2025 AI tools affect the productivity of experienced open-source developers working on their own repositories. Surprisingly, we find that when developers use AI tools, they take 19% longer than without—AI makes them slower. We view this result as a snapshot of early-2025 AI capabilities in one relevant setting; as these systems continue to rapidly evolve, we plan on continuing to use this methodology to help estimate AI acceleration from AI R&D automation [1].
Core Result
When developers are allowed to use AI tools, they take 19% longer to complete issues—a significant slowdown that goes against developer beliefs and expert forecasts. This gap between perception and reality is striking: developers expected AI to speed them up by 24%, and even after experiencing the slowdown, they still believed AI had sped …
Just saved this pic yesterday — documenting what it’s like to still write MFC code at 50.
I’m not promoting anything. Just tired of coding in silence.
Let me know if it resonates with anyone.
11am - 8 engineers, 1 Eng Manager, 1 PM, 1 Project Manager gather in a room + zoom
11.05am - people wait for others to join. Crickets
11.06 am - one Eng shares the screeen and starts standup
11.06 am - someone figures out who goes first
11.07 am - The first person says he is facing a problem. Others ask what. Then two/three folks rabbit hole for 10 minutes. Others wait for their turn while coding away their features
11.17am - Eng Manager intervenes - “guys lets take this in the parking lot”. “sure good idea”
11.17am - 3 more engineers provide update: What they did, what they will do today, no blockers
11.20am - 4th engineer provides another blocker and goes into the same loop as before
11.30am - room booking ends. Other party is knocking on the door. But 4 engineers still didnt provide update. “Lets go to the hallway and continue”. They all walk with their laptops to the nearest hallway.
11.45am - time for parking lot items.
12.00pm - …
As a Software Developer I have been constantly told that AI is going to replace me, so I may be biased against it. And it’s possible that my algorithms reflect that bias. So I’m writing this to see if other people outsider my echo chamber are seeing the same things as me or not.
I remember when the blockchain came out, and it was going to change the world, and everyone had to include it in everything. Then people realized it’s limits and got tired of hearing about it. Then VR came out, and it was going to change the world, and everyone had to include it in everything. Facebook even changed their company name to Meta, because the Metaverse was where the future was. Then people realized it’s limits and they got tired of hearing about it. I’m seeing this same pattern with AI. Everyone is convinced that it’s going to change the world, and everyone is forcing it into every product, even ones that don’t make sense. And people are already realizing …
I’m a software engineer with 4 years of experience working at a tech adjacent company (not a pure tech company), and over time I’ve found myself placing more value on understanding the business and communicating with stakeholders than on the actual coding.
It feels like once the real needs are clear, the coding is rarely the hard part. There’s usually a known pattern or standard solution that fits. At the same time, I rarely get the chance to apply anything deeply technical or novel because the problems just don’t call for it or like AWS already has services available you can leverage on to meet the business requirements.
Is this a natural shift in perspective as you gain experience? Or is it more about the kind of company I work for?
Apparently the cat I’m catsitting in my house has taken to sleeping on my old desktop which serves as my Truenas server and accidentally turning it off, thus interrupting my movie night. She has been forgiven though on account of her cuteness. I did not prepare for this in building my homeserver in the last few weeks.
Started this journey 2 years ago. Proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish so far :)
Just putting this out there as a warning for anyone out there, wife got this in the mail today panic that her business URL was expiring. Wonder how many people just pay this without looking into it too well it arrives on proper print paper. I just photocopied it to make the black actually block out all the personal information. This is in Canada. Don’t know if it’s happening in the states but just warning for everyone.
This is a tool I see mentioned a lot here but I didn’t notice a lot of deep dives into it. I am a huge user of this app and have spent much blood sweat and tears getting a lot of it’s functionality to purr.
I have this running on an intel 10th gen using VAAPI for hardware transcoding: done through a docker image -> docker container -> running on proxmox in a 3-node cluster. Took some tinkering to get double passthrough but it was not challenging.
You can see in the images some of my TV stations, but I am most proud of the commercials I have archived as well as my MTV station with over 750 hand-curated music videos. Many trimmed manually to eliminate garbage at the beginning or end.
If you are considering this seriously it is worth the effort because once the basics are behind you spinning up a few more channels can be literally done it a few minutes. I can’t thank this team enough as in my opinion ErsatzTV is by far the leader in this space with the greatest …

I signed up during the King’s Day promo in April 2024, which was €37.50 for 15 months.
I’ve noticed that this is set to auto-renew in 20 days, but there is no sign at what price. The account details in general are quite poor as I couldn’t view the previous price I paid either, I had to check my bank account.
I appreciate this might be a question for Eweka support, but I thought I’d post here, as I know they post here, and I expect a lot of people are in the same position.
Edit: Thanks all. Support have said it will be €54.00/year. So I will probably cancel and go with this offer that is currently running: https://www.eweka.nl/en/landing/promo-deal-evm-e
Billed once for 15 months at €37,50 (€2,50/mo), then every 12 months at €71,88.
They don’t have any guideline, so I withdraw ETH from my Binance to their wallet, then I sent transaction information to their email.
3 days already, no single rely from them. And their Discord support link was expired.
When using Drunken Slug is there a way to exclude search results?
My workflow is to go into the website and click on a categories today’s top grabs. This brings up the last 24 hours. I then sort it ascending. Once you do this, you no longer have only one day of results. I talked to support and they gave me a little add-on you can put at the end of the web address. &top=1 (to reset it to 1 day). That worked easily.
I would love to be able to exclude certain results by putting in strings to ignore.
I am not in anyway familiar with coding, but it got me thinking that may be there is a way to add strings in that web address also that if matched on by the name of the item, it would not be returned in the search. I spent some time trying to get help with Microsoft co-pilot and it was trying to have me put some type of JavaScript in the console but I could never get it to work. Does anyone know if this is possible or am I just wasting my time trying to pursue this? Thanks
Anyone know what the artist list won’t go past the letter L?

FIXES:
So a while back I tried to move my server over to Linux because my computer was not compatible with Win11… and it did NOT go well. So about 4 months ago I tried again, but this time I used a different distro (Zorin) and ran it side by side with my windows Plex server. From minute one, everything just worked. I put a few movies and shows on the Linux server and literally just checked it every few days, and watched a little bit here and there. It was flawless. All my previous problems were nonexistent this time around.
After about a month I decided to move everything over. It was a breeze. It’s been several months, and I’ve not had one issue. NOT ONE! Plex is rock solid, has NEVER crashed, and starts right back up after a reboot. My windows server was constantly having problems keeping Plex running. I created scripts to check for plex running, I had it set to start automatically after a reboot, without logging in, and on and on.. it was constantly needing attention and always seemed to …
