I noticed that my team is extra critical on one particular junior dev. This junior dev is the only woman on the team so not sure if that has to do with it? Wondering what this means as I seem to be the only one not participating in treating her like this.
She is very curious and talkative, sometimes annoyingly so, doesn’t pay attention to time limits during standup but neither do most of us, she just tends to ramble more. But otherwise she’s very pleasant to work with, collaborative, and her productivity matches that of other junior developers on our team. She has more technical experience, but less engineering experience than the other junior developers. However, not much less engineering exp, the difference is yr.
I noticed that our manager and the senior other developers are extra critical on her PRs. They don’t review the other junior devs PRs as closely and miss many things, but on her PRs, nothing goes unnoticed and there is needless nitpicking. To the point that I urge to …
I see more and more posts here complaining about agile, boards of directors, marketing people, business people and all the saints. But I don’t know if you realize that part of your job should be to defend the values that are important? Your managers may be idiots who can color a table in excel, but you should be the people who care about quality, spread good practices and express your opinion as professionals.
I’m also annoyed by posts like “don’t speak up if you want a job”. That’s exactly the kind of people I’ve come to work with now, who have buckled their projects because they couldn’t communicate needs, concerns and recommendations in a clear way and let technical decisions be made by people who shouldn’t be making them. Well, I will surprise you, when I started talking about the problems and talking to management, it turned out that they were not such devils after all. I was able to schedule time for refactoring and quality …
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately, and honestly, I feel stuck. Some of my friends who are younger than me are already Principal Engineers at big tech companies, making close to half a million a year. Meanwhile, I’m earning about a third of that. It’s not just about the money, but it makes me realize I haven’t pushed myself the way I should have. I also realize that I’m not learning enough to grow to the next level.
8yoe here, all at a single company, my first actual job out of college. I see posts here all the time about folks moving jobs (obviously) and I know that it would be ideal for both personal growth as well as financial growth to hop. However, my job actually pays me relatively well, despite being here for 8 years. I don’t feel like I’m missing out too much, I’m not doing anything super cutting edge, but we’re at least working within AWS now (as opposed to our old on-prem solution) so I don’t feel like a caveman.
But far and away, I like the culture of my company and the benefits. The company I work for is pretty well known for “lifers”, I think the average tenure is probably around 10 years. Great work-life balance, very stable industry, and the work isn’t super boring day to day.
Do any of yall have a similar situation? Do you feel like you’re missing out? Have any of you hopped around for a while and then “settled” …
On Saturday, Jellyfin was an unexpected MVP in helping me propose to my (now) fiancée. 💍
Throughout our day of fun and romantic plans, I was texting our photographer to coordinate — sending them updates on where we were, what we were wearing, and deciding last minute where the best spot would be. My girlfriend thought I was just deep in r/jellyfincommunity, r/selfhosted, or troubleshooting something for one of my users on my Jellyfin Discord server… and she didn’t suspect a thing.
By the time we got to our final stop, the photographer was perfectly disguised and in place, the timing was right, and she said yes. ❤️
Now she knows the truth, but Jellyfin (and the alibi it provided) definitely helped make it all possible.
I thought that was hilarious and just had to share. Thanks to Jellyfin and this community!
Hello everyone,
I’ve been using Sonarr/Radarr/Readarr and figured there should also be a “YouTubarr”. Yes, I’ve found there’s already a few other projects trying to do a very similar thing and I call out how this is different from each in the GitHub README. For the most part: this is a lightweight implementation - based on RSS feeds instead of indexing the entire playlist.
Subarr* is based very similarly to the other *arr apps: it periodically checks RSS feeds for new updates and takes various actions when a new video is found. The UI was designed to be very similar to the other *arr apps.
A couple features:

Great news! …
Very unhappy today as I woke up to an email saying my self-hosted Bitwarden license was cut off since my payment method expired.
It was when I went to log into the Bitwarden cloud portal (different logins) that I realized TOTP generation was locked behind the “Premium” paywall. To log in to the cloud portal I had to get my TOTP token from the login entry and put it into a separate auth app so it could generate the codes, and then I had to do the same thing to get into Paypal. Although I understand why they do this, it seems to me in extremely poor taste as 2FA is so critical nowadays.
Now that the rant is over, this has really pushed me over the edge to migrate from an official BW instance to Vaultwarden. I (previously) liked to pay for Bitwarden given how much I use it and I appreciate their FOSS approach, but my initial stress thinking that my TOTP tokens were completely locked behind a paywall has dissuaded much of that notion.
I only deal with 4 users (myself, SO, …

Agregarr keeps your Plex Home and Recommended fresh by frequently updating it with Collections based on lists from various sources including Trakt, IMDb, TMDB and Letterboxd, as well as generated Collections from Tautulli Statistics, and Overseerr requests. It has various options for grabbing missing items either through Radarr/Sonarr or as requests through Overseerr. Collections can be reordered on the Home/Recommended screen, with independent ordering on the Library Tab. You can set a schedule for a colllection to be visible on certain date ranges and/or days of the week.

Cool use cases
- A Collection can be created for each user in the library tab with their Overseer Requests, and it’s hidden from ever other user (except server owner)
- At the end of each year you could have a collection appear on your users Home screen titled “A Year in Review on (servername}“ which would be a collection …
11 total streams: It managed (8) 4k HEVC remux to 4k remux streams w. tone mapping along with 3 Android devices converting to 1080p HEVC. Fwiw the card in use is the ASRock PCIe bus powered twin slot version.
It started to choke when trying to add a 12th transcoding stream; I even cheated and tried the lowest bitrate 4k HDR, non remux file I had and it just refused to start streaming after forcing the transcode.
I did not capture it, but videos would start buffering after attempting to add a 6th software transcoding of subtitles while streaming the above using a DDR4 13600k PL’d to 45w. Once I disabled the 6th subtitled stream, everything went back to smooth streaming. I doubt letting it run stock PLs would’ve made much of a difference. My understanding is that’s just the limit of the CPU I have in use. I am pretty happy there.
Overall, I am pretty impressed and the output looks phenomenal vs the AVC/h264 results.
I’m in ecstasy, finally discovering the Plex app and how to use it! I basically use my laptop to download films locally and then connect it via HDMI to my TV. Recently, I bought a soundbar with Dolby Digital support and was looking for a proper app to play any files.
For what it is, Plex is just perfect. VLC often doesn’t transcode most of it correctly. Then, I tried the Kodi app, but using it on a Firestick seems too heavy; the device struggles to handle Kodi properly. It gave me a headache with the audio flickerings.
Then I came across Plex finally, and even AAC 5.1 files—EAC3 or DTS—run flawlessly. There are no audio or video glitches. It’s just beautiful. Even when I play high-encoding files, it only gives a warning that the internet connectivity is low and buffers for few secs. Using a LAN cable eliminates that easily.
The other features really impressed me—it’s more than I asked for. The interface is amazing. For example, we download films in formats like …
