I’m not against him using AI to write code (even though the code he produces clashes with the style, is harder to review, and has been known to not actually solve the bugs.) Given English is not his first language, and he isn’t the best written communicator, I’m glad he’s finding a tool that enables him to be productive.
However, sometimes I’ll spend 20 minutes writing a comment on his PR… giving context to some niche code path, how it interacts with other code paths, verbally retracing the conditions that can produce the bug, linking to historical commits helping us both understand the recent changes, etc.
Then I’ll get back 5 paragraphs of perfect English with a jovial tone saying my points are so valid and here’s why my coworker made this change, and this and that…
Thanks for the detailed feedback and for raising these points. I’ve looked through the logic, and I think we’re on the same page. Here’s a breakdown …
Well, technically await Task.Delay(1000)
but same same.
It was some code to open a cashdrawer with the ECSPOS protocol. The library to communicate with the printer has an internal timer to flush the print buffer to the printer and only sending the 4 bytes or so needed to open the cashdrawer did not flush it. But delaying the current thread to wait for the timer did it.

The book is expected in Feb 2026, but with an O’Reilly subscription, you can already enjoy the new content.
I guess most people here, at least from he backend world, know this fantastic book. If you, for some reason, do not, that’s a great chance to discover it. This is one of the few books that I have physically on my bookshelf on software engineering.
I am a mid level developer who is basically having a life crisis right now.
I am both getting a divorce and dealing with a toxic work environment after recent reorg. At this point it is affecting my health and I can not function at work at all. I was doing well at my job until a recent reorg and it has been horrible since. The stress prevents me from eating, sleeping, and functioning at all. I already see a therapist and was prescribe meds but things just keep getting worse.
The tasks I am being given are frankly even too complicated for a senior to complete and I do not get any support from team . The org I was moved to does not have a supportive team at all. Manager does not care and just blames employees if stuff is late. You have to explain to a bunch of people if you are ever late and its a huge deal. It is like I am being purposely set up to fail. I have never experienced this in my entire career as a SWE it being this bad.
At this point, I am simply shutting down from the …
There have been multiple posts regarding this in the past, but most of them focus on how to prevent developer productivity loss.
However I have reached that position in my team where I’m not expected to code much anymore, so I’m not worried about my coding output.
Given that, it’s still exhausting for me to have:
4-5 meetings in a day, each about a different project where I’m expected to take/sign off on the most critical design decisions.
1-2 design documents to review, which are for completely different projects. Where my approval is blocking the author from starting the implementation.
4-5 PRs related to a separate set of projects, which are blocked on my approval to merge. Sometimes having to read a section of their design to understand what they’re trying to accomplish.
All of this is on top of my project that I’m working on currently. I understand that this is what is expected of a senior engineer, but I find it hard to have so many …
It started about a month or two ago when I got a new OLED TV and wanted to make sure I was playing the highest quality content on it. I realized streaming services were absolutely terrible in terms of bitrate & surround sound, so I got back into pirating.
It started by me using my PC to run Plex, then I realized that was annoying, so I moved to my old laptop, but I quickly ran out of space there.. so I went back to the PC, added a few cheap nvme drives, and that worked fine for about a week.
Then I ran out of space again, so I started buying some external HDD enclosures. I had 2 26TB HDDs running with StableBit Drivepool so I could have it as one drive. I added a third HDD so I could get parity. I realized those were slow (at least for the quick 100GB transfers of movie files/TV shows I needed - I could have added an SSD cache layer to solve this, honestly) & also a bad idea for safety (unplugging during writes can cause corruption). This also meant adding drives to the pool …
Just noticed this now. It’s getting blocked by my firewall, but I don’t know what they’re trying to reach in the first place. I’m pretty sure I don’t have a service on port 5683 either.
Didn’t realize how much I rely on it until it stopped working. My girlfriend and I were watching YouTube and the ads felt so loud and just kept running even with the skip button up.
Fixed it right away. Never letting that happen again, lol
I don’t think I use any other self-hosted thing as passively and constantly as this. The auto-mute for ads is probably my favourite feature. We play a lot of ambience YouTube videos, so having silent ads is really nice and non-disruptive.
Would highly recommend! Just wanted to share
Edit: Seeing some comments recommend SmartTube. I have an Apple TV so SmartTube is not an option for me.
This post is part of a know-how and how-to section for the community to improve or brush up your knowledge. Selfhosting requires some decent understanding of the underlying technologies and their implications. These posts try to educate the community on best practices and best hygiene habits to run each and every selfhosted application as secure and smart as possible. These posts never cover all aspects of every topic, but focus on a small part. Security is not a single solution, but a multitude of solutions and best practices working together. This is a puzzle piece; you have to build the puzzle yourself. You’ll find more resources and info’s at the end of the post. Here is the list of current posts:

**What it is:** Home Information - a visual, spatial organizer for everything about your home. Click on your kitchen, see everything kitchen-related. Click on your HVAC, see its manual, service history, and warranty info.
The current “* Home” service offerings are all about devices and selling you more of them. But as a homeowner, there’s a lot more information you need to manage: model numbers, specs, manuals, legal docs, maintenance, etc. Home Information provides a visual, spatial way to organize all this information. And it does it so without you having to surrendering your data or being forced into a monthly subscriptions.
The code is MIT licensed and available at: https://github.com/cassandra/home-information
It’s super easy to install, though it requires Docker. You can be up an running in minutes. There’s lots of screenshots on the GitHub repo to give an idea of what it can do.
**Tech stack:** Django, SQLite, vanilla JS, Bootstrap (keeping it simple and …
So it’s been about two decades since I last touched Usenet. Back in the day, I was rocking a Giganews account and living inside NewsBin Pro like it was my second home. Life was good, binaries were flowing, and I felt like a wizard every time a multi-part download stitched itself back together.
Fast forward 20 years → I figured, hey, let’s fire up the old combo and relive the glory days. Spoiler: not the same results. At all. It felt like I had shown up to a party where everyone had moved to a secret after-hours location without telling me.
After some digging, I learned the game has changed - and apparently a lot. So now here’s what I’ve got going:
So here’s my big question for the Usenet pros who never left: is this setup solid enough to cover my bases, or am I overcomplicating and doubling up on things where I don’t need to? Is there some piece of the puzzle I’ve …
Hello Everybody,
My name is Cody, I am a developer who’s been working on a new app in the spirit of LunaSea ever since it went down a few months ago. I have put it off for a few months to work on another exciting project: LunaSea
Introducing Zagreus
Zagreus is a fork of the archived and delisted LunaSea project, rebranded and brought back onto the App Store. At first, I wanted to take on maintenance and restoration of the app as it was, alongside my planned app. As I worked on it, I got comfortable enough to start making changes on the app and continuing active development of it, as I would have like to have seen it done.. And it has turned out a lot easier to build the features I want to build on top of an existing stable platform, who would have thought! Here’s a summary of the fixes and changes shipping with 1.0:
- Account/backup system rebuilt in Supabase
- Notifications are one-click and use apple push
- Light mode (beta)
- Gentle dark theme refresh
- Added the …

Even if you’ve done it recently I highly recommend you revisit https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/ and make sure you’re actually opt-out of everything.
I’ve started periodically checking it and this morning (the 24th) when I checked again I was “opt-in” on a few vendors under the Non-TCF Vendors list (even though “all no” was selected at the top of each section. This is after checking on the 17th at which time everything was opt-out. So it literally changed in the last week.
IDK if its Plex adding new vendors that they set to opt-in or if settings are reverting on their own but it’s become clear that this is a site you need to revisit often to make sure you actually opt-out of all of Plex’s data selling.
It was pretty functional and usable, not many issues or problems years ago. Now this year with the price hike, constant removal of features like Watch Together, and just an overall tanking of the UI with unecessary crap, it feels like they’re just actively trying make things worst to no ones benefit, to “fix” things that were never really broken. If their goal is to drive their users to other services, well its working.
Just wanted to give everyone a warning. We had the new plex load onto our Roku.
I have a kid and we have a separate account we let them login to. My main one is behind a PIN.
I had it locked down pretty well with parental controls until today. We only had access to a single server and things for kids. Do not remember the actual settings.
The fucking update puts live TV on it. This gives access to a whole bunch of shit without any parental or rating controls.
I can watch the walking dead on the walking dead universe. A whole true crime genre.
Really fucking cool. You have to login to the sub account and disable all the stuff in their account.
Good luck.
