How do you guys deal with non-technical people in the org trying to steal your entire department’s job by vibecoding some nonsense and being loud about it to senior leadership?

We’re dealing with a marketing bro that swears he can vibecode a replacement for a (different) platform we pay for because he set up his sick agent loop (token burning operation) that vibecodes ²⁴⁄₇ for him. My immediate response was to implement an agent loop for myself and create a starter prompt for the entire team to adopt the framework with minimal effort/friction.

It is extremely infuriating that these people hide behind the typical ‘haha I’m not a technical person but this is just what I put together!’ If you aren’t willing to stand behind it, then shut the fuck up and stay in your lane and quit wasting everyone’s time then?

Lately I’ve been having thoughts about what the point is. Back in the day when I got into programming, I just wanted to make cool things.

I made a lot of cool things. They took time so I knew they were genuinely either unique, special, or in any other case, mine. I made twitter/reddit/discord bots, data visualizations for social media platforms, and useful tools for my communities I was involved in.

Now everything that gets created now seems to be just a load of AI crap. There’s no special-ness anymore. There is no problem solving. There is nothing. It’s just “We made an AI that does X” instead of “We solved X problem”.

It’s so ridiculous it’s genuinely killing my interest in the field. Copilot solves most of my problems at work now and I have to use it to keep up with demands from leadership + an increasingly difficult to use codebase. I go through days of feeling grateful for the career I have, feeling motivated and looking forward to the work, and then I go through long spells where I just can’t stand it and feel trapped. Days where I truly don’t give a shit about any of it and would have no problem rubber stamping PR’s and just “getting it done”.

i don’t want to give away too many details but: my employer (small company) pivoted what my team was doing to focusing on a brand new project that has to be delivered by september. The issue is that the MVP was generated by Claude in its entirety and it’s very low-level code. I was assigned to this project and every time they ask me to review a PR (which can be small or thousands of lines), I either reject the task by asking someone else to review it, or approve it without really understanding what i’m approving. I feel like if I had to review it properly I would have to spend a week understanding the concepts and the codebase. But at the same time, the foundations of this project are changing rapidly, so I’m like, “what’s the point in spending time learning it?”

I’m in Russia. My adversary isn’t a random scanner — it’s the ISPs themselves, operating under a regulator that does nationwide DPI and can null-route foreign IP ranges by geography. Assume the network operator is hostile, has full visibility of my traffic shape, and can actively probe any endpoint I stand up. I self-host a tunnel for myself and a handful of people under those conditions. I used to work at one of the ISPs, which is how I know roughly what the other side sees.

It randomly shut off on me for about 15 seconds a few days ago, killing power to my PC and server.

After it turned back on the estimated runtime dropped to only 5 minutes, at a supposed full charge, but wasn’t telling me to replace the batteries. I knew they were around 5 years old so I immediately ordered replacements.

Once I pulled out the old ones I was met with this beauty. I’m glad I didn’t hesitate in ordering their replacements.

Got sick of crappy public indexers and using Qbit so decided to spend tonight making the switch to usenet.

Starting off with Newshosting, NBZGeek, and SABnzbd. I paired it all up with my existing Arr stack and so far so good. Just looking for a bit of background in terms of safety while using.

I was always very strict about using my VPN (PIA) bound to my Qbit, to the point id regularly check and test it to make sure there are no leaks. Something about using a combination of Newshosting, SAB, and NBZGeek seems like a lot of doors im opening. I made use to use SSL when setting up connection between Newshosting and SAB, but is that really all I need?

Just trying to determine if by making this switch, should i be expecting any letters/theoretical knocks on my door anytime soon? A bound VPN to my client gave me somewhat of a reassurance, but I am still unsure about this new setup and wondering if there is anything else I should be doing to protect myself.

My Fire TV stick updated to the new client last week and at first glance, I thought, “oh cool, it has a refreshed interface, more options, etc.” but after using it for a week, I cannot believe how bad this is. I literally use Plex less because of it. I thought y’all were exaggerating when you said it was bad.

The new player makes me want to snap my remote in half. There is so much lag everywhere. It does that weird thing where when you scrub through the video and stop, it may or may not be in the paused state so you’re waiting for it to buffer, only it’s paused with absolutely no indication that it’s paused.

And what in the unholy nightmare is the new “loading” animation? Only a psychopath could think up something so sickening. I don’t even know how to describe it.

Please tell me there’s a way to downgrade…
