I was getting the Able Carry Max EDC in ripstop when it released and they offered their new packing cubes but $80 seemed steep so I went down a rabbit hole and learned how to make simple pouches but ended up spending more than the packing cubes cost and even more time spent. Basically, Iām not gonna argue with the cost of peopleās bags anymore, shit is hard.
What is it about bags that gets everyone here going? I guess itās the design and construction aspect for myself, but really I keep hating on my self because itās so very superfluous. I feel like a library for my kids, when they go out and need something to carry with them. Then Iām so possessive that I ask them for it back as soon as they get home. The 2-3x a month that I leave my house for workā¦ā¦I always take my filson briefcase and thatās it. Any others have the same issues here š.
Iāve been on a real hot streak with my local thrift store. 3 bags in 3 weeks. Itās funny that the larger Topo was priced at twice what the Tom Bihn was but I think that has more to do with Topo being from here so more people know it. Also a seam ripper can be your best friend when buying second hand bags with embroidery that you donāt want. Iām so excited for my first Tom Bihn. Whatās you best bag score?
Iāve been obsessed with three way bags since I was a teen, for years I carried one throughout high school and into my university career. I switched to backpacks when I was travelling but now that I have children, I have to bring a lot more stuff on the plane so I often will travel with my own large backpack and a shoulder bag.
It seemed like it was time to make my own three-way bag, backpack/briefcase/shoulder bag. I hate the way most shoulder bags straps are connected, I prefer a solid connector like a messenger bag, but I also donāt want a dangling strap when using it as a back packā¦but I also donāt want the bulky backpack straps to take up space when used as a shoulder bagā¦why not use them as both? I added a double daisy chain all the way around the main zipper so the backpack straps can be combined to become the shoulder straps. The briefcase handles can be moved to the top for backpack handles too.
Made from 1680D Ecopak and lined with hot pink EPX400, my three way bag is a tad ā¦
After a long walk through the airport Iām questioning everything. My back is sweaty and my traps are on fireā¦ Starting to think a rolling carry-on would have been a better move
Title says it all. Hadn’t come across anyone actually cutting it out.
It was relatively easy, just do it carefully with an exacto knife. Get as close to the stitching as possible making sure not to cut into the compression straps or rest of the bag.
Note this weight includes the protective foam and the fabric.
I thought it would weigh more but for me its about the volume. Although it weighs less than a medium t-shirt (150g for a men’s medium poly/cotton blend), the volume imo is 2-3 t-shirts. Which means either more space for clothes or to avoid jamming everything in if I’m packing heavy.
I didn’t want to spend another few hundred on the farpoint 55l AND lose the small top/outer zip pocket. Tough call, it was on my mind for a few weeks before I chose to do it.
Worst part is RIP warranty but I’ll take my chances!
Hello fellow One-Baggers!
I just returned from 3 weeks of travel in Japan during February with the Osprey Farpoint 40+15. Here are some thoughts on the bag and packing list from my previous post linked here.
And a picture of all my souvenirs just for giggles. No Ragrats!Ā
Items I used more than I expected
I did not realize in advance how cold one of my destinations would be. I bought myself another puffy layer at uniqlo in Tokyo. I did not wear it much for the rest of the trip, but it packed down easily and helped fill out the volume of my duffel bag later on
Trader Joes Dark Chocolate (I am from America).! It was a lovely way to say thank you to the people who made my trip special. For example, I gave some to an Inn Keeper who I spent a lot of time with and to a Sake shop worker that I talked with for a long time.

I had a custom Dragonfly ordered.
I added stretch pockets to the top quick access pocket for stashing items and add a little built in organization for items like AirPods or just things I donāt want scratching against keys.
In the main body, I added mesh pockets along both sides of the bag. This is for small flat items that I always bring with me. (Iām not a pouch person really). The zippers turned out to be a little more tight than I thought they would be but I will have to use it to find out.
I got the new luggage pass thru with passport pocket. It comes with a PU coated zipper. The pocket is much larger than a passport and could hold a flat wallet or any flat cards/cash you want to keep hidden.
I previously didnāt know this about ULA but all their bags say S-straps on them. I was told the dragonfly actually uses their hybrid straps which donāt curve quite as much. Therefore, I have their true S-straps and they fit my chest much more comfortably than the hybrid ones.

Iāll be spending two weeks in Thailand and two in Japan in May and I am having a tough time deciding on a bag. Iāve never backpacked before so I donāt have a great idea on what Iāll appreciate in a bag. Will be bouncing from city to city staying in hostels and taking atleast 6 flights while Iām there. From what Iāve read/watched on YouTube Iāve narrowed my search to bags with a capacity between 35-40 L around the $300 ish CAD. I wonāt be packing any laptops or camera equipment, mainly just clothes and toiletries. Im currently looking at the Cotopaxi Allpa 35-42L or an Osprey Farpoint. Was hoping you guys would be able to steer me in the direction of the right bag, any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
What do I pack? For weekend trips just 3 days of clothes, chargers, water bottle, power bank, 2 ipad minis + 2 kids BT headphones, 1 pair of shoes, actyx atom LT jacket.
For international, probably the same stuff except clothes would be in a carry-on suitcase (until it dies and I possibly explore 35L options).

Cotopaxi Allpa 28L | 28L | 2.5 lbs | $190 | Yes (stretch mesh, 1L) | TPU-coated 1000D polyester | Clamshell suitcase-style opening, vibrant colors | Air mesh straps, luggage pass-through, 15ā laptop sleeve |
Osprey Daylite Plus 26+6L | 26-32L | 1.5 lbs | $90 | Yes (dual stretch mesh) | 210D recycled nylon | Expandable 6L capacity, AirScape ventilated back | Lifetime warranty, packable, minimalist design |

A pockets on pockets and yeah more pockets on a vest experiment [#431]. We counted 7 front pockets, 2 inside pockets and 1 on the back. A couple use Block Tapey, three or so have zippers and oneās got a shank. The vest itself is made with the highly breathable Injected Linen fabric and lined with powermesh. We canāt tell you what to carry with this thing but if the pockets are calling you, weāre sure youāll figure it out.
Do you think Outlier will ever make injected linen pants with a stretchy, drawstring waistband? I think that would be awesome personally. Iāve been looking for some linen pants with a drawstring waistband that are more on the baggy size and only have found one pair/brand but itās only in two colors.
Anyone have a good alternative for the three way short that isnāt a super light/loose techy pant. This was the only one Iāve found so far that has both the stretch tech and a substantial/thicker weight to it. Any suggestions?
What is your experience with size variance? I am currently wearing slim dungarees and have always purchased the same size. I’ve recently bought my third pair. My weight has remained consistent, but the last pair, while labeled the same size, feels significantly shorter and tighter compared to the previous pairs.
I absolutely love my New Way Longs, they’re holding up amazingly since new, but issue is I’ve had quite a bit of body composition changes since their original purchase. I touched it out for quite a while, but after a year now, there’s no chance of return, and they’re just so loose.
Given that Outlier seems to be uninterested in a longer shorts option in many years now, I’ve come to ask, what’s people’s best match alternative?
So equivalent look (smart enough for a polo, but could wear them in a pool), with similar physical performance (i.e. durability and ability to quick dry / repel water).

I wear jeans with a 17.5ā-18ā waistband laid flat. Should I go with a medium or a large?
Do they do well as hiking and camping pants for the summer?
