Was giving my OG DualShock 3 a clean today and ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole after checking the board inside it.
Mine has an MSU_VX4_0.10 board. Turns out it’s one of the earlier DualShock 3 revisions that uses 4-pin magnetic/Hall-effect analogue stick sensors, rather than the conventional potentiometer setup Sony later went back to.
Basically, instead of having a physical contact rubbing across a resistive track to work out the stick position, these use magnetic sensing. So you’re getting rid of one of the main wear points that causes the usual stick drift.
And this wasn’t some random prototype Sony tried once and binned. Several of the early DualShock 3 revisions used this setup before Sony eventually went back to conventional potentiometer sticks.
This controller is nearly 20 years old, still gets absolutely hammered pretty much daily, and hasn’t got a hint of stick drift.
Meanwhile, I bought my PS5 at launch and I’ve already had two …
Controller: Gamesir Tarantula 8K
Modifications:
- Added two additional bottom back buttons, giving me 4 total back buttons
- Added button caps to the two stock back buttons for better ergonomics and easier access
Parts/materials used: Additional tactile back-button switches + button caps
This is now my favorite controller. The extra two buttons are exactly what I wanted, and the larger caps on the stock buttons make all four much easier to use.
Seriously, Gamesir just make a 4-back-button version already!
I got an email from Razer earlier to say they’re releasing a new Xbox/PC controller. It’s the Razer Wolverine V4 Pro, a newer version of the V3 Pro. See link to the product page. £199 in the UK. It’s got an 8k polling rate on PC, 4 back paddles (the back paddles are removable), 2 extra buttons near the bumpers, dual-mode trigger locks and the faceplate is removable. It also comes with 4 extra Thumbsticks.
The product page mentions that it has Capacitive Thumbsticks but the product FAQ’s mention Hall Effect sticks which is a bit confusing. It’s available to preorder now and I think it ships on the 26th October. There is also a cheaper Tournament Edition which is £100 cheaper.
This is an independent review + I have no relationship with 8bitdo
So, I have had my 3E for about two days and have had a blast! Firstly, I am someone who has most recently used the Gamesir ZZZ/G7 Pro, and I truly enjoy both controllers – I have still used it in the past two days. However, the quality of this controller is something that is noticed instantly… I have used most of the accessories thus far: the tall concave(s), mechanical/membrane action buttons, plus/circular D-pad, and the convex(s). I have admittedly spent a lot of time configuring the settings of the controller on both PC/XBOX, which I might inquire that most users will find to be the case due to the controller requiring this, IMO.
Secondly, I truly don’t wish to compare for the sake of comparison; however, this must be said. If you’re someone who prioritizes button/stick latency and has the necessary funds to purchase it, then it is a must-buy… the specs on this thing FOR XBOX truly …
Hello, so I bought Raikiri 2 pro thinking it would great, but it’s genuinely disappointing. Reading paid or gifted-unit reviews, you completely miss the bad side of this controller. After a few days of use here’s my take. It’s simply not worth the money, and has multiple flaws.
Hardware Issues - Build Quality: The faceplate feels cheap, plastic, and flimsy. It creaks in your hands and actually causes secondary issues with the other controls.
-Face Buttons (A/B/X/Y): They feel decent if you press them perfectly straight down. In real gameplay, you naturally press them at slight angles - …
I’m the solo developer of X20CTL, an open-source Windows configuration tool I originally built for the EasySMX X20. The response has been much bigger than I expected the project has passed 100+ downloads, I’ve received a lot of useful feedback, and quite a few people have asked me to support more EasySMX controllers.
I’d love to do exactly that, but the main limitation is simple: I can’t afford to buy every EasySMX controller just to reverse-engineer and test it myself.
Right now, I’m especially looking for owners of the X05, X10, X15, D10 and Dune/D15 who are willing to help me collect the information needed to properly support them.
What I’m trying to understand includes:
Fell into this rabbit it hole about a year ago so thought I’d share where I’m at, tried to keep it as varied as possible with a different use for each bag or a variety in materials and colours etc, thoughts and suggestions appreciated … list is

When they updated their line up I was a little disappointed like everyone else since the dna seemed to be lost. This was the only bag that got my attention. Decided to pull the trigger.
So far it’s a really great bag. I have the seg28 and been using for the past 2 years as my travel bag and I travel a lot. Loved everything about that bag expect maybe too big for my packing and the back hardness was uncomfortable at times and the laptop is a tight fit. And also have the pack hacker refraction collab and love that bag.
This one fixes all the issues and all around it’s a great bag. The harness is such an important improvement. Was worried since it seemed a bit heavy for 24L but it carries so close to the back and harness is very comfortable.
Organizing is great and many ways to play with all the pockets and access to them without it being over bearing and annoying. Can definlty fit a lot more than I thought a 24l would take.
All around very pleased and surprised with this bag. Sucks …
I am so happy with the way this bag came out I thought I would show it here. This is a custom ULA Dragonfly 30 in Ultra 800TX with a fully lined interior in X-Pac VX21 RS. I wanted a pack that would fit between my two current favorite travel backpacks: Osprey Daylite Tote Pack and Tom Bihn Techonaut 30 in 1050D Ballistic.
For modifications I switched to RC YKK zippers, removed all the water bottle mesh pockets and changed the front pocket to the main 800TX body material with pleats and a full lining. I believe it comes out to around 22L (vs 30L as standard) with these changes.
It’s not a lightweight hiking bag anymore but for me it’s the perfect overbuilt travel backpack (okay I’d still prefer 1050D ballistic but it’s so hard to find in an unstructured bag).
I’ve been using the new CTactical CT Messenger for a couple of weeks now, and I think they did a really nice job with this one.
My first instinct was to load it up pretty heavily, and while it handled everything, I’ve found the bag works better when you give it a little room. At 10L, it is definitely on the smaller side, and I think it shines more as a compact work/EDC messenger than as a bag you try to stuff to its limits. (the 14 refers to size of laptop it can handle)
One of my favorite things about it is the access. A lot of traditional messenger bags make you open the big front flap every time you want something from the main compartment. CTactical gives you zippered access through the top, so you can get into the bag without dealing with the flap at all. It sounds like a small thing, but in actual use it makes the bag much easier to live with.
And there is organization everywhere. You have the rear pockets, a full admin area under the flap, additional exterior storage, and then …
Big brother: 30-32L Max in X-Pac (For me), little sister: Thirteen in Ripstop (for my wife)
I went to Tokyu Hands at Shinjuku to get my wife a daypack which she loves but the next day I couldn’t help myself I called back in as I was doing a night lights photography walk (they close at 9pm) and left with Big brother - Able Carry Max Backpack expandable 30-32L. Test packed it last night and it is spacious, looks fantastic and is ready for the next leg of our Japan adventure. Will let you know more after taking it for a spin. My wife found the Thirteen very comfortable on s day out to Mt Fuji.
Hi guys, some of you might remember me from many months ago when I asked for advice in this sub for fleeing my family and country of turkey. I successfully fled with plenty of clothes, all my documents, and everything else that was important that I could fit on me! Overall it all went well except for the fact that I’m unemployed and in emergency housing now, but I’m sure I’ll find a job soon enough. I’m now back in my home country of Switzerland and I just wanted to come back here and thank you all for your advice and kind words and to show you that I made it.
Thanks a lot. Feel free to ask questions if youre curious!
Posting for reference. This is the Osprey Daylite 26+6. The bag is in unexpanded and probably about 80% full. I had to take my water bottle out of the side pocket. Fits easily height-wise, and a bit tighter in terms of width.
I’m doing a full trip around the world for 6 months. I live in Connecticut and I’ll be starting off by flying to Texas. From Texas I’m doing a contiki group trip on a bus from there to LA California, stopping at national parks along the way. From there, I’ll be flying to Japan, where I’ll likely stay for one month. Then I’ll go to Southeast Asia, where I’ll probably be for about two months, and then I’ll finish up my trip with two more months in Europe.

This is my ‘first draft’ packing list for an upcoming trip, my longest one so far and I’m surprisingly happy with what the weight came to! 5.2kg (11.5 lbs) in the bags and 1.5kg (3.3 lbs) of clothing I’d wear going through airports. For my last big trip (SE Asia) my bag was 8kg (17.5 lbs), obviously I hadn’t found this sub back then.
I’ll be doing a good mix of exploring cities and hiking. Average max temperatures should be 16-25°C, Singapore will be the hottest around 30°C and Sa Pa (North Vietnam) could drop to 12°C (or less if I’m unlucky), so I’ve got a good mix of hot and cold weather clothes.
The backpack (TomToc 28L) is my everyday/weekend pack as well, so I might consider upgrading that.
4x Uniqlo Airism Boxers
1x Cotton Boxers (sleeping)
1x Shorts
1x Lightweight Hiking Pants

1x Uniqlo Short Sleeve Shirt
3x Synthetic Ankle Socks
1x Merino Wool …
Here’s my original post with my packing list, where I received some great feedback.
Thank you so much to everyone who made suggestions! I really appreciate the help and I’ve made this trip report to show where I’ve implemented the advice and how it benefited me. It was my first time travelling with just a personal item and it felt so good to get off the airport bus and start wandering around the city without having to immediately find my accommodation or search for a luggage locker.
I adjusted my bag based on suggestions: removed 1x T-shirt, 1x bra, 1x leggings, 2x socks, swapped my pjs for thinner ones, put a couple of face wipes in a ziplock bag, removed razor from case and MacGyver-ed a blade cover out of paper and electrical tape, and swapped my makeup brush for a couple of qtips.
Reducing the bag’s contents initially made the sagging/ bulging issue worse but it freed up the space I needed.
I’ve edited my pics to illustrate what I took out.
What I used and what I did not use:

Loaded it out for a 3-day biz trip. Left my cap 0.5 at home.
Hi everyone, I’m a long time lurker, but posting for the first time on this Reddit. I’ve been using Evergoods products for some years now, and have two sets of all the Civic Access Pouches. I use at least one everyday.
I’m a frequent solo traveler and stay in small hotels often. The CAPs work great, but I’m always wishing for more table space. After getting into 3D printing, I designed a passport size table that I could carry around in the pouches to get this extra space.
I took design inspirations from camping tables and computer risers, and designed a table that would keep into itself. The table tops slide into each other, and the legs can be kept in the cavity within. In its collapsed form, each of the CAPs can easily hold two tables (see pictures), and more if you have need! Been field testing them for a while now and thought I share them with the community!
If you have access to a 3D printer, the print is available here, for free.
