Happy Year of the Horse and Happy Ramadan for those celebrating. Here’s a round-up of controller news and subreddit updates from the past month. After January’s bumper round-up, the Chinese New Year holidays mean this was a relatively quiet month. Ongoing tariff changes and other global developments are likely to continue affecting pricing and supply chains in coming months.

Im building a retro handled console based on a Raspberry pi 0 2w and, after seeing that the controller worked, I wanted to trim as much as possible so I could make the console smaller. So I decided to remove the vibration motors (since I tought that without proper care they could also break the console) and make it smaller. Can I do that just by cutting the wires/soldering them off or will it cause issues in the controller?
Controller: XBox One pdp (cheap knock-off controller)
I was annoyed that 8Bitdo’s N64 controllers didn’t match with their actual N64 counterparts and decided to buy the basic gray to swap buttons. I think it turned out nicely and I actually think the monochrome controller looks better now too. Might be worth it for them to sell buttons…
Hey everyone, I’ve gone through several controllers over the years and they all eventually started feeling weird — buttons getting clunky, D-pad feeling off, connectivity issues. I’m done cheap-ing out and want something that actually lasts long term.
**Budget:** Up to $100 USD
**Country:** USA — happy to buy from Amazon or any reputable US retailer
**Platform:** PC only
**Desired features:** Durability above all else. Hall Effect or TMR sticks (no drift), reliable wireless connection, solid build quality on buttons and triggers
**Games I play:** Mostly soulslikes (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, etc.) and RPGs, but I play a wide variety. No fighting games like MK or Street Fighter.
**Controllers I’ve tried:** Multiple controllers in the $50–60 range, most recently the Fantech EOS Pro WGP15
I’ve been eyeing the GameSir G7 Pro — seems like it ticks a lot of boxes with TMR sticks, optical face buttons, and a solid 2.4GHz dongle. But I want honest long-term …
Hi everyone 👋
I mainly play on keyboard and mouse, but I’d like to try using a controller just for fun and to treat myself, not necessarily to fully switch. I want something comfortable and responsive for shooters and action games on PC.
$80 – $100 USD max
Ecuador – I can import from Amazon without problems
PC (Windows), Steam, Epic Games, Rockstar Launcher, and sometimes mobile
Low latency / fast response
Gyro (motion aiming)
Good battery life
Precise sticks (Hall or TMR preferred)
Wireless or 2.4G dongle support
Red Dead Redemption 2, Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare, Mecha Break, Left 4 Dead, Warzone, Battlefield 1/5/6, and other shooters/action games
BIGBIG WON Blitz 2 Wireless
Flydigi Vader 5 Pro
GameSir G7 Pro
Which one would you pick and …
Here’s a quick look at the Gamesir G7 Pro 8K Xiaohai edition and some thoughts comparing it to the original G7 Pro.
I purchased it on TaoBao (I live in China) with my own money and have no affiliations with Gamesir.
I promise this fits here, just hear me out.
When I leave the house, I almost always want to bring more than what my pockets can reasonably hold.
I don’t carry a knife.
I don’t carry a gun.
I don’t even really need a separate flashlight—my phone’s light is totally fine for what I do.
My ideal day out is sitting in a café, typing on my phone with a little Bluetooth keyboard. I like to roam around, go for long walks, and somewhere in there I still have to get actual work done. I also travel a fair bit, both because I want to and because I have to.
What makes me happy is having exactly the small item I might need within reach, especially when it’s something I could easily have packed if I’d just planned better.
I’m pretty sure the real reason I keep buying so many bags is that I’m always chasing that “perfect” one that fits whatever version of my life I’m living at that moment. It feels like if I can nail the right bag setup, I can actually become the person I picture in my head. …
TLDR: If you missed grabbing this, I don’t think you missed much. IMO its quite a blatant copy of the Bellroy Venture Ready 2.5 (not a bad thing). But I think on balance the Bellroy is better and YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY IT!
Where the Aer is better:
Where the bellroy is better:
I bought the Alpaka metro backpack 12L on the latest restock and it looks like I stole a toddler’s school bag haha. I’m way too big of a dude for this tiny thing, but I much prefer a smaller backpack to a sling bag. Looks like my hunt continues
Just met the packhacker team at Aer New York, and managed to snag a limited run collab sling they’re doing a limited run of! The bag looks great. Ultra fabric. It’s like the Bellroy Venture Sling and Able Carry Core Sling had a baby! Holding up well so far! Interesting comfort padding in the back panel.
Nice colour combination. As I could choose in a shop.
The “kindasorta” is because I’ll be buying clothes there and using my 16L packable backpack to carry them in. If I weren’t buying clothes, I’d have one more shirt, one more pair of drawers, and an extra pair of socks. They’d still fit, tho.
Clocks in at just shy of 6kg, a good couple of pounds under ZipAir’s 7kg limit.
WORN/CARRIED: jeans, collared shirt, socks, shoes, security money belt, puffy jacket
6 day biz trip Boston to Vancouver for meetings, work sessions and dinners.
Usually I bring an Aer Gym Duffle 3 for business trips, but it gets heavy fast (and no backpack straps). I’m also usually not a fan of 3-in-1 bags because they’re often heavy, but this one is ultralight and packed easier for me.
Packed weight: 7.4kg. I try to stay under 7kg and keep the bag under the seat, but the dress shoes really pushed me over this time. I could move the power bank + cable + AirFly into jacket pockets if I really wanted to hit 7kg.
I’ve been checking out lots of different kits on this sub for a while now, and got some excellent ideas for you all! (Quarter for scale - a banana seems too big)
Goal:
- Smallest possible kit that contains all the tech and gadgets that I’d need/want for a trip away. (This Viperade pouch is 3.5” x 5” x 1.5”)
- Wanted to be able to toss it in any bag that I was taking
- wanted a setup that allowed me to have a little charge stand on my bedside table when in hotels
- wanted a USB C cable that was at least 5 ft long to make it more practical to plug in
Notes:
- Carry-on safe scissors / multitool (NexTool S0 Micro Scissors Multitool)
- something to write with (Mini Sharpie & OHTO Minimo Ballpoint + Rite in the Rain Wallet Notebook)
- mini compass is fun (SUUNTO Clipper Compass)
- flashlight (OLIVHT Oclip EDC)
- Saw John Gadgets you EDC kit always have high strength string and a magnet to dig out keys in tight places and liked it
- a few USB C adaptors & a Data Blocker …
Just got back from two weeks in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hakone) with only a 35L backpack and I’m weirdly proud of myself but also my packing method is completely unhinged according to my travel partner. Instead of doing the normal “roll your clothes and use packing cubes” thing, I basically wore the same 2 outfits the entire trip and just did laundry every 3-4 days at coin laundromats. My bag was like 60% empty most of the time which everyone says defeats the purpose but hear me out. The extra space meant I could buy shit without stressing. I picked up books, snacks, random stuff from Don Quijote, and even a small ceramic bowl from Kyoto and just tossed it all in my bag. My friend who brought a “proper” travel luggage set with a checked bag and carry-on was constantly playing Tetris trying to fit souvenirs and ended up shipping stuff home. I also only packed 3 pairs of underwear and 3 pairs of socks which sounds gross but doing laundry frequently meant everything stayed fresh. Way …
I’ll admit, as a Filipino I probably have a closer relationship to flip-flops than most (I spend much more of my days in them than in shoes), but I’m still amazed at how many load-outs contain neither flip-flops nor sandals. And the few that I do see seem to more often be in lady packs than dude packs.
What are y’all changing into at the end of the day? What are you wearing into hostel or public showers? What do you put on when you wanna give the dogs a rest and let your day shoes breathe?
No judgment, I’m genuinely curious. Going without slippers is such an alien concept to me, I honestly want to know what folks are wearing instead.
hi. late to the party here 😁. I have ordered the waxed camo limited edition CTB 26L from a third party website with a decent discount. Is there any matching sling that goes well with the asthetics of the bag?

I wanted to share my thoughts on the Kludde.
TL;DR: What happened, Evergoods? How did one of your best bags end up like this?
Disclaimer: I don’t really care about the Carryology collaboration branding, the drop culture, or the hype around it, so I’ll leave that aside. I know this is marketed as a “city” carry, although Evergoods already has other bags that fill that role. Regardless, I’m reviewing this purely as a bag and how it functions in real use.
Harness, top pocket, main compartment
These are essentially the same as the MPL22, and they work well for me. No complaints here.
Front dump pocket
On the MPL22, the wide opening works because it’s top-loading and accessible for both left- and right-handed users. It also expands outward nicely, which makes it great for stuffing a jacket or slightly bulkier items.
On the Kludde, however, the design feels like a step backward. Access is limited to one side, the opening is extremely small, and it’s difficult to fit anything bulky …
Have searched and found some posts scattered here and there but don’t think there has been a lot shared so asking this here to collect your thoughts and opinions on CTB26 Waxed Canvas if you have them.
Why?
Because I’m considering the pre-order for the Olive Waxed Canvas! Hahah
Seriously though, would love to hear directly from those who owned one on how’s their experience with the bag:
- Whether it was too heavy for travel or daily commute
- How you have used it (EDC or travel?)
- Moulds? Stinkiness?
- What do you love about it? Not like about it?
If you could help enlighten the rest of us that would be great. Thanks in advance!
I’m not a huge fan of the stock zipper pulls on the CTB26, and I want to swap them out for something that adds a subtle orange accent - nothing loud, just a small pop of color. Don’t like the 550 paracord as it’s too thick for my liking, so the custom ones I made from 425.
I came up with 4 different options and I’m torn. Trying to keep it clean & minimal. Which one would you rock?
Open to other ideas too.
#1: Bought these on eBay - thinking orange on vertical zips / black on horizontal zips OR orange on front zips / black on remaining zips.
#2, #3, #4: DIY from black and “neon orange/black camo” 425 paracord with braided heat shrink tubing for wiring. Trying to decide if all “neon orange/black camo” or just accenting the vertical zips or just accenting front zips.
