We all know about the shader compilation issue that has affected several games on PC recently, but one issue that can be just as common and bothersome is that some games will not take advantage of multiple cores. This affects all platforms, and it’s a bit bizarre, since even the next-gen consoles have many cores to work with. The Callisto Protocol and Gotham Knights are the most notable recent examples, but far from the only ones.
Shader compilation stutter, although unacceptable, can at least be fixed relatively easy after launch with a patch. Single core bottlenecks are generally much more difficult to deal with, and are often never addressed. The stutter they produce can be almost as immersion breaking as those from shader compilation.
Hopefully this is something that developers keep in mind going forward.
I’m talking about the Steam version, for GOG take a look at this comment from u/TheCorvair and this comment from u/Hellwind.
Here’s how you do it:
Open the games properties, go to Betas and select “classic” to get Patch 1.32 from before the RT update. It’ll uninstall the update and install the OG game.

As others pointed out the classic version seems to now also come with the new launcher. It should be skippable with the –launcher-skip parameter under General in the same window.
I’ve seen quite a few people say that they were “forced” to update, which is correct in a sense but can easily remedied by using the steps above.
