I have been feeling this for a while now, but I feel that Discord has changed multiplayer for the worse by moving players from communicating within a game, to communicating outside the game. It’s easier to set up than Teamspeak or Skype and seems to have become extremely popular as a tool for every single multiplayer game.

Why do I think it’s a bad thing? Because if you join a multiplayer game now and you don’t have discord you’re locked out of so much. People rather use Discord than the game voice chat, or they are already in a call with their friends and stay silent in game.

I’ve joined countless different multiplayer games, Reforger, Lethal Company, Among Us, Squad, Counter Strike, Town of Salem. And every time in a play session I’ll be trying to group up and play the game and there is always a group of people on discord together.
