I’m finishing Alan Wake Remastered in anticipation of Alan Wake II, as I’m a big Remedy fan, and this has to be one of the most frustrating, poorly controlling and least fun gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I know it’s an old game, but man, thank goodness gameplay has evolved.
Combat encounters are so cheap and nearly all of my deaths are getting ambush swarmed by spongy enemies. In most cases it’s nearly impossible to avoid getting hit and taking significant damage and when the point flashlight then shoot once their barrier breaks formula doesn’t work, you’re just leaving a trail of flares to try and escape. It also doesn’t help that Alan has an absolutely minuscule amount of running stamina and the camera angle is glued to his shoulder. The dodging mechanic is also tied to the same button as sprint and is regulated with stamina as well. The camera also insists on reverting back to the left shoulder view, and as a right-handed individual, this makes for a disorienting experience. …

Specifically in shooters. I just got Battlebit, and have played limited amounts of fps games like PUBG and Battlefield 4 on PC, but it is hard to enjoy because the controls feel so awkward to me on M+K. And this is with 20 years of experience in fps games on console with it being the main genre I play. Aiming and movement is fine for me, but when I have to lean, switch through my gear, or do anything more complicated than running in a particular direction, such as reloading, healing, or doing action keys, I just get overwhelmed and it takes time for me to know what to press. I’ve tried adjusting my keybinds, and I’ve put some controls onto my extra mouse buttons which is handy, but all in all I can tell it’s just going to take a lot of time for this to feel natural. At this point I’ve probably put a dozen or so hours onto pc shooters, which I guess isn’t long at all compared to the thousands I put in on console. But I’m getting a bit demoralized and …
Guys, I have been 3 full days trying every single damn thing I could come with to fix the stuttering in this game and nothing helped. I was desperate to find a way to fix it because it was really unconfortable to play like this
But luckily, I found a way to fix it and I had to share this with you because it’s a very easy fix and the improvement is incredible
So first you have to download a mod, you don’t need to install it but it has a file that removes the anti cheat shit that Ubisoft implemented, so drop these two files in the main directory

After doing this, you must download DXVK, and drop the files in the folder x64 in the main directory as well
After doing this, the game will run in VULKAN, and the stutters will be history. The first step is really important because the anti cheat files this game has will not allow you to launch the game with the vulkan wrapper …
So many good memories but today I remembered a time I was playing left 4 dead online with randoms and this one guy sacrifices himself on the level where you have to escape via a boat as if it was an actual zombie movie recreation. I purchased Everspace 2 during early access, but only recently really dived into it. I wanted to like it but something was always off. Yeah the voice acting is a little cheesy, but the gameplay, RPG elements and space sim features are solid, yet I just couldn’t take it seriously, even as the game would start to, so what was wrong?
It wasn’t until I went into settings and muted the soundtrack did it all come together for me. Everspace 2 went from a campy space arcade game to a legit space RPG comparable to Elite or NMS. It certainly isn’t as massive as those two, and it doesn’t need to be, the smaller scale allows for some beautiful systems, maps and locations and there is still a ton of exploring one can do.
There is a vast array of weapons to discover and upgrade, and so much unlocks as you progress to really flesh out the experience. Swapping between cockpit and 3rd person views allow me to take in the beauty around me, without being distracted with a soundtrack that sometimes …
