Looks like Gearbox is escaping from the disaster that’s happening at Embracer.
Microsoft has just unveiled the DirectSR API as part of DirectX, and although we still don’t know all the technical details, its been covered in the press and at large on Reddit as a competing, standardized super resolution/image reconstruction solution “to end the upscaling wars”.
It is not. It’s an API which game developers can rely on to implement support for DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and potentially other techniques in the future from a set of common inputs and outputs. The reason why you’ve seen countless DLSS-to-FSR or vice versa mods is that these operate on very similar inputs and outputs already.
Nvidia already attempted to do pretty much exactly what DirectSR wants to accomplish with NVIDIA Streamline, which AMD opted out of supporting.
