Hey r/Games!
We’re a small indie team developing Valor Hunters, a chaotic online co-op roguelite built around a simple, hilarious idea: what if your friends were your best weapon?
In Valor Hunters, teamwork is a full-contact sport. Our core mechanic is a physics-based system that lets you literally throw your teammates into the fray to smash enemies, block projectiles, or solve environmental puzzles.
Key Features:
The Necromancer’s Tale is a story-rich CRPG focused on the experience of becoming a necromancer. The story centres on social intrigue, secrecy, blackmail, and a creeping insanity - all wrapped into a gothic tragedy.
I was lead-developer over the 5.5 year development process, and the team involved 8 writers (including me) - with the narrative finally coming in at 400,000 words. The game released nearly 2 months ago (July 17).
In this post I will discuss the game’s release and the intervening period until now.
Reviewing Strongly
Although we had a hunch (from the demo and beta testing) that players liked the writing, we really had no idea how the narrative would resonate with the wider player-base once we hit full release. Therefore it was (and is) amazing to see almost-universal acclaim for the narrative, its progression/arcs, and the writing generally. It’s so cool to see so many players really *get* what we were trying to achieve with aspects such as the …
When I started working on Bylina, it wasn’t just a game - it was a dream. I grew up with Slavic tales: bylinas, stories of bogatyrs, Koschei, leshys… These legends always felt powerful and underrepresented in games. I wanted to change that.

That’s where Falconet came from. He’s not a chosen hero. No strength, no fame, no prophecy. Just a regular guy who doesn’t give up. To me, that’s real heroism.
Bylina is more than an action RPG. It’s a story about fear, growing up, and fighting not only monsters but yourself. Good and evil aren’t black and white - every character has their own truth and pain.
We worked hard to make the world feel alive - from forests to dungeons - filled with the spirit of Slavic mythology. The combat is tough but fair. Victories are earned and meaningful.
Now, the first open playtest begins - currently exclusive to Xbox.

Title.
The fact that this game, which has mechanics that are pretty tough to learn and even tougher to master, will have a player base that has been absolutely grinding for over a year at the time it’s opened to the general public is going to result in absolute massacres that turn new players off right away.
Look no further than Wildgate and the way new players being permastomped resulted in a player base that is a fraction of what it could have been with proper balancing - and it’s too late now to fix it. So many people just moved on and aren’t looking back.
There are so many games out there that people will just vote with their feet and go to another game if Deadlock doesn’t address new player experience.
I’ve had several friends who loved playing League come in to this game only to be manhandled by a haze or a Yamato to the point that they just go back to what they were playing before I convince them to try Deadlock.
Wanted to give Trapper a makeover!
