I’m an exclusive PC gamer. Will never own another console in my life, Nintendo Switch 1 was my last and I purchased that at launch. PC has too many advantages over console for me to justify the cost for a few games nowadays.
But are Sony making the right move in ditching PC? Isn’t there an argument to be had that when ‘why own a PlayStation when the games are on PC?’ becomes a common sentiment, it is indeed hurting the brand?
With Sony’s move to end production of physical media starting 2028 and the state of the industry, I think we’re inevitably moving towards a future where the next step is renting computational power via subscription, in my opinion.
Taking away the storage medium is just the first step and sooner or later the hardware itself will follow.
Prices are still rising, or at least not going down and will leave behind anyone that can’t afford hardware.
What’s your opinion and how would you feel about this possible future?
If you disagree, which direction do you see the industry taking?
I was reading a conversations about the current situation in the game industry ad someone said that the problem comes from customers being unwilling to pay more for video games and that for people working int he industry tsituation would be better if video games cost 150 dollars. Do you think that this is accurate? Would such a rise in prices truly benefits developers and average workers in the industry?
