In general, games nowadays look very good and games that attempt to reach realistic levels of fidelity are getting closer and closer to that goal every year.
Ray Tracing is very much the current hot topic in game appearance and, while it still has a ways to go, i imagine we will be getting future iterations which allow for realistic lighting with minimal performance hits sooner rather than later.
But if and after Ray Tracing becomes a standardized feature in the future, what do you think game studios will focus on next in the eternal quest for digital reality reproduction?
Personally, I’d like to see realism in audio be taken up in the future. Many games still have difficulty realistically mapping sounds, especially through objects, in real time.
