I’ll start: Red Dead Redemption 2. Don’t get me wrong, the graphics are breathtaking and the attention to detail is insane, but the pacing felt like a “horse riding simulator” to me. I spent 40 minutes just traveling between missions, and the clunky animations for every single action (like looting or skinning) felt like they were actively trying to waste my time. It’s objectively a work of art, but I just couldn’t stay awake long enough to finish it. What’s that one game for you? The one that everyone gave a 10⁄10, but you just couldn’t get into?
I for some reason like these kinds of visuals. Like it’s going for realism but tech and details just aren’t fully there, skin on characters it too clean and rubber-like, there’s a clear hierarchy of colors, like, you can tell it’s a game. I just watched a review of a game called Scars Above (came out a few years ago) and saw people complaining about the graphics, animations being too stiff, uncanny, etc. which got me thinking about this. Other games like this that I can think of from the top of my head are Far Cry 3, FIFA 2014, CS Source and I guess basically all AAA stuff from that early 2010s era.
For me it’s a style that emphasizes readability over realism even if that maybe wasn’t the intention. It could be that I’m just used to it because for the most of my life I had a bad PC and wasn’t able to play realistic games so maybe my eyes are just not “calibrated” to read them well.
I’m curious to hear what other people …
After our studio was shut down during the Embracer layoffs, we decided to rebuild as a small team and go indie.
This is the result: Pratfall, our chaotic co-op cave game. It’s out now on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4244510/Pratfall/
Was taking a break and watching some TikTok videos when something caught my attention.
A video about two men, a Russian and an Ukrainian, both in opposite sides of a conflict that was not created by them.
One managed to escape, other is afraid and hiding to avoid being caught and even said “I’ve spent a third of my salary just to avoid being caught.”
How many friends lost their lives? How many dads are never coming back home? How many brothers and sisters are never seeing their beloved ones again?
We never know the struggles of another raiders we meet topside.
Be safe, be kind, you’re worth and we’re here.
You can see the video in @SinSmileTV on Tiktok.
Seems like there are more reasons not to do the third wipe. Are there any other reasons to do it that I’m missing? With this “catch-up” mechanic I can just leave it and go again next one? It was worked up to be something so great to complete and now just seems….meh. Lacklustre incentive, no real competitive advantage. I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️
Keep getting my ass handed in Stella I’m so damn tired. This damn device is the bane of my existence. Anybody can spare me some of these for my expedition? 3x to be exact. Tell me what you want, got some max level pink weapons as rewards.
