Growing up I used to watch my dad play games all the time, and play with him. But slowly he gamed less in downtime and watched more TV/movies as he got into late 30s.
As I hit that metric I find myself in the same swing. Often at night I just don’t have the mental energy/desire after a full day… even though 10 years ago I did, despite having fuller and harder days.
Not sure why, is this common? Anyone else have this? Still love to play, but I’m noticing a trend towards lower mental energy and lower interest to game. Maybe it’s age/energy; or maybe with time, the mysterious aura has broken and I know what to expect in games. I’ve played so many it’s not new or awe inspiring. The feeling I’ve seen it all.
Or maybe with age I’m more interested and invested in human stories and top tier writing/acting.

I decided that I would look into the FOV complaints that I’ve heard with God of War. I’ve managed to overwrite the FOV with a custom value, although currently at the moment, it affects cutscenes and requires NOPing a few functions that constantly write to it during gameplay. There’s probably a better way of doing this (Which won’t affect cutscenes, I imagine there’s a constant somewhere in the game code for the standard gameplay FOV, but this is an early work in progress.
During the beginning portion when you first have access to photo mode, it has a “73.72” degree FOV. This will probably affect cutscenes, and I’ve seen some oddities around object culling from a distance. Your mileage may vary.
Give this CT table a try, if you don’t mind the current caveats. Keep in mind, you should use this with the day one patch that released, and memory offsets may change as the game gets updates or patches. I suspect someone will probably make …
I’ve been PC gaming over 25 years and remember a time at least in the first decade of that where Anisitropic Filtering where anisotropic filtering made a some difference in the performance achievable in games.
It feels especially in the last 10 years that modern hardware and gaming don’t suffer performance differences as a result of anisotropic filtering. So why is it not default or even ommited due to irrelevance of impact? As a quality of life change, it would save me looking to knock it up to 16 in every relevant game along with all the other options.
