The tricky thing a out PFAS is they have no taste, smell or color, so we can’t feel them. Also they are toxic at extremely low amounts, like a few ng per kg. They mess with hormones and cause cancer. And they bio accumulate in humans. Also no one seems to know about PFAS, or care. But 1 in 6 children in EU already have beyond safe levels in their blood.
I am shocked how badly Amsterdam is polluted.
Our children will probably be sick and infertile.
We need to push our politicians through social media to stop this contamination. For example there are some pfas factories that operate today in and around Amsterdam.
On this map you can see where contamination sites are and stay away. You can also see for example a pfas user factory next to Westerpark.
FIlter your tap water (Waternet reports high levels of pfas in tap water). And try to avoid …
The idea: If you use hard drugs in the park you risk a fine, if you use them in the van you’re tollerated.
This is the Netherlands I grew up in, I’m happy to see this kind of pragmatic stuff returning. I’m sure it’s not perfect and it won’t solve the whole problem but at least something is happening!
As someone that lives close to Oosterpark I’m rooting for this project and hoping it helps the drug addicts, increases safety in the park and surrounding areas and decreases the amount of addicts in the park ‘off their fucking faces’ two meters away from kids playing.

I’m 33 weeks pregnant. I’m VISIBILY VERY PREGNANT. And every time I’ve had to take public transportation there are no seats available for me to sit in, that’s fine. I will usually ask someone to move their bag or wait until someone gets off at the next stop. What I’m referring to is people PUSHING and RUSHING past me to run to the open seat before I can even get on the tram/metro. For the past week I’ve had people cut in front of me while waiting for the metro doors to open to sit in seats and then ignore me when I ask them to move. Some will even push me. Cars will not slow down at zebra crossings when I’m in the middle of walking and then will hard brake so they don’t hit me. I’ve also had people on bikes, cycling on the pavement, yelling and ringing their bells to get me to move. THERE’S A WHOLE BIKE LANE FOR YOU TO CYCLE, I WILL TAKE MY TIME WADDLING BECAUSE I’M CARRYING A WHOLE ASS BABY INSIDE ME.
I never cared …
Is there any reason for the nutri-score to be on here?
It would have peaked at 14.77 million in 2015 and declined by 200K reaching 14.57 million in 2024
I see questions often about… Is this Dutch Directness or just rude? Edit: to clarify… This is not a question. It’s what I see as positive direcness. I appreciated it even though I wasn’t use to it.
I have a story that might help distinguish between the two. I come from a very social country. When you’re invited to someone’s house it’s almost rude not to go. We end up making excuses like being sick or busy as to ‘not hurt feelings’.
The other day I organised a poker night at my place and invited a few friends around. One Dutch friends reply was….
Hey, thanks for the invite but I honestly find card games to be boring and don’t enjoy them at all. I’d be more than happy to come for a bbq or borrel but I don’t think I would enjoy a poker night. Thank you for the invite though.
It hit me as so direct and honest and I couldn’t fault the logic behind the reply. He was respectful, open to future …
Dutch men dress quite casual and plain in general. Not bad, just plain. Then you look down and see these crocodile leather babies staring back at you. Who is responsible for bringing this trend to the country?
The Biesbosch is a big national park in the Netherlands, known for its waterlands and diversity of animals. When entering the Biesbosch you have a restaurant along the road, where you can have a drink. When you dive further into the area you discover complete rest and even some wilderness.
Me and my friend even made a video while cooking and camping outdoor. If you are interested in what the Dutch nature has to offer, please have a look:
