I’m newly immigrated here, and it turns out my street was a major party street this weekend. What started as jubilance as I watched people dancing from all over the city, then the country, then the world (I heard so many languages floating up to my window yesterday!) turned to sadness when the music stopped and the street cleared and I was witness to the absolute carnage left behind. I kept waiting for the city to come through with their leaf blowers and vacuum trucks, but time ticked down and they never came.
When I woke up this morning neighbors bearing shovels and push brooms had taken it upon themselves to clean all the detritus. I watched for a bit, and let my sadness turn to guilt to annoyance, wondering why they weren’t waiting for the city to do their job? But then I came to my senses, had a cup of coffee, and took my tiny little broom downstairs and asked if I could help.
Natuurlijk! They welcomed me and I joined them, picking up bikes, brushing up garbage, and clearing the …
Serious answers only, preferably. It tasted terrible.
Hi everyone,
On Kings Day, I was unprovokedly hit on the head with a baton by a man wearing a dark outfit with a red logo on his chest.
He was walking with another person who was pushing a baby stroller along Prinsengracht, right in front of the Houseboat Museum.
This happened around 21:25 (give or take a few minutes).
I suffered a large cut on my forehead that required stitching and an immediate emergency room visit. Lot of bleeding.
If anyone witnessed this or saw anything that might help identify him, please reach out. He kept walking southbound on the same road.
Any information would be hugely appreciated.
I actually think it’s a cute childish representation of part of the Dutch culture
(Please don’t hate me)
The amount of people peeing publicly- literally streams of pee running through the streets, used tampons everywhere, poop in corners, women peeing on peoples steps leading to go below ground, others destroying property, people destroying the tulip displays by sitting in them, penises out, people barely able to walk… people were literally just peeing on peoples front doors…. Like wtf….. it’s disgusting. It’s so primitive… all so what? They can get drunk, dance around, and party?
And then. The trash.
Trash everywhere. People just throw it everywhere….. literally piles everywhere. The street is lined with trash, you’re walking over pee soaked trash.
Literal acting like animals. But even animals don’t trash their own environment like this. That’s disrespectful to animals. It’s disgusting. It’s disturbing. Who even raised these people?
I can never imagine disrespecting property, littering, publicly peeing or pooping or leaving tampons everywhere like thousands of people do and seem to …
Cheers everyone - all the business folks who decided to choose a different lease car, all the Uber drivers going to Chinese and European rivals, all the poor folks like me who were not planning to buy one anyway, and we did not! Congratulations!
