We lost contact with our friend LUO, a 23yr old student of Universiteit van Amsterdam. We received his last message in the early hours of Feb 23 and everything seemed normal. One of us had made a rdv with him meeting on Feb 23 afternoon, but he didn’t showed up. Then, he was absent from every course and exam. No one could find him. Normally, he informs others if he will be absent.

The police have already started investigating, but we still need more information. Below are his physical characteristics and some of the eyewitness reports we have received so far. His photo are enclosed.

Physical characteristics

• 23yr old, Asian Male
• Height: 177cm
• Weight: 65~70kg
• Shoulder-length straight hair
• Wearing Glasses
• No beard

Witness reports (All to be verified)

• 1st or 2nd Mar (not sure): Someone saw him in his residence.
• 3rd Mar: City hall (which one is yet to be confirmed)

So we had just flown in to Schiphol and were taking the train to Amsterdam Centraal when us, being stupid Americans, decided to take the stop early AND leave my backpack on the train. That backpack had basically my entire life in it, I was in shock. So we jumped on the next train hopeing someone would see it and drop it at lost and found at the next stop. We take the train, realize we got off a stop early, and sure enough the backpack is right there at lost and found waiting for us. That quite possibly was the deepest feeling of relief I have ever felt. There was a really cute couple sitting right next to us (dude had sick shades on) and I’m almost positive they were the ones to find it and drop it.

Whoever you are, you saved this vacation and dealing with tons of turmoil in the days and weeks after this trip. Thank you with the bottom of my heart.

Hey, I have a cousin who has been missing from Northern Ireland for 2 weeks and we have found out he is in Amsterdam. Can anyone let me know if they’ve seen him please?

I (Indian, F) have been living in the Netherlands for 4 years and have been with my Dutch boyfriend for a while now. While I know cultural differences exist, some of his behaviors and ways of thinking have made me question if I’m the weird one or if it’s just cultural differences or he’s just being unreasonable. I feel like I’m constantly adapting, and at this point, I don’t even know if my feelings are valid anymore.

Some examples:

1. There have been a few occasions where I saw some cute things and thought of his parents and wanted to get it as a gift for them. He told me his parents wouldn’t be happy if I bought gifts for them.
2. For Christmas, I bought a lot of ingredients to cook a nice dinner for the family, and he later told me his dad was upset because there was “too much food.”
3. He complains that my food stinks and doesn’t always appreciate it when I cook for him.
4. When I’m on my period and having bad cramps, I still have to do chores because he says, “I still do the dishes even …

Just talked about this in a post and thought I should share, my apologies if this was posted before.

But do to differences in accent there are different ways to say fries in Dutch, it might also be because of historical reasons, the part in yellow (mainly Brabant and Limburg) used to be part of Belgium, due to this they call fries “friet”. In the green parts they call them “patat” which is wierd but comes from patatas frietes, and is just an abbreviation.
