My late father spent some time in Amsterdam in the early 90s, and this is one of my favorite photos of him. I’m visiting for the first time this May and would love to recreate this at the same location — would anyone be able to help identity where this may have been taken?
Thanks all!!
We were in the city the past three days. The usual almost getting run over by fatbikes, dudes in patserbakken cruising around the grachten,… same types of people we get in Antwerp.
But HOW do you guys manage with those groups of drunk Brits?! They stand outside their hotels in their underwear in the morning, smoking. After that: straight back to bingedrinking in trainingsuits, harassing girls, shouting like they’re the most interesting person in the world and willing to fight everyone they encounter
Hello,
My wife and I moved to the Netherlands 5 years ago. She is from Eastern Europe, and I am from Scandinavia. My wife was late pregnant when we moved here, so we both decided it would be best for her not to work during the first two years. She wanted to spend time with the baby and didn’t want the baby to go to nursery/kindergarten immediately. I had a decent income, so we could afford that arrangement + Covid was on the way so it was anyways probably hard for her to find work at the time.
When our child turned two, we enrolled her in kindergarten, and my wife had the opportunity to focus on her career. However, she refused, saying she was very tired from being a stay-at-home-mother and wanted some time to recover. I thought this was reasonable, and I also suggested she consider therapy because I noticed some signs of post-pregnancy depression. We also hired a cleaning lady to help with the house on a weekly basis, which we still do.
She successfully completed the therapy and …
First time seeing “Cancelled by order of the police”. Any idea what happened? I can’t find any related news anywhere.
Yes, another NS thread. I love trains and I think train transport is just superior - but in the Netherlands it’s so expensive that it makes it not really compelling compared to private vehicles, while it should be the opposite.
A day trip to Amsterdam from Breda for 2 people is ~85€ which is, quite frankly, crazy. The same by average car would be ~22€ in gas + 6€ for P+R parking = 28€ which is 3x cheaper. Even if you are just one person it’s still cheaper to go by car than by train.
Yes, there are fixed costs on tax, insurance, maintenance… not included, but for a single trip they are negligible compared to gas and you have them whether you use the car or not, so actually it makes sense to use the car MORE if you have one already. And yes, if you are a (Dutch) student, trains are free (which is awesome) and if you are a frequent user / commuter there are the subscriptions that makes it more affordable. But for sporadic use, it’s just not a great option at …
