Every year this perplexes me. I go to the oliebollen stand to purchase some pillowy sweet goodness on my way home, and I ask if they are warm and 90% I hear no. This is crazy to me. An oliebol takes less than a minute to make- I would never buy frietjes and expect them to be cold, so why the humble oliebol?
Inevitably they ask if I have a microwave, to which I say no- today I was told I should ask Sinterklaas for one.
I know people do take them home to eat later, but a good portion eat them right there- there are tables provided at many. So why the hell serve them cold under a sign claiming “VERSE OLIEBOLLEN” ?
Does anyone know where I can get a hot one?
During the pandemic, I went into the city and took some photos. It was calm, it was quiet, and it was so surreal to have the city, basically, to myself. I saw people reading on street benches in peace and children playing football in the streets. It feels like a lifetime ago now.
I was looking into ordering on Thuisbezorg and my oh my, a new fee appears! ✨ So, after take money from the restaurants with a commission, now they also wanna take money from the users of the app?! Where does this end??! This make me think of Airbnb, adding more and more fees to their check out. F that. 🖕🏼
I’ll use Thuisbezorg as a search engine and order by phone to the restaurants directly, win-win 🥇
Dutch is my 5th+ language but its the first time my accent has ever been a hinderance to integrating. I’ve mastered probably 90% of day-to-day conversational Dutch and have never found myself in a situation needing the 10% that I don’t master yet, but still so often people prefer to switch to English the second I say something in my faint foreign accent. It’s not even strong, and I put the effort in to really pronounce everything the way natives do but this still happens consistently. Plus, when they speak English their accent is far more prominent than mine when speaking Dutch.
My question is, why? I’ve lived in 3 other countries in my life other than the country im from, all with different languages and in different continents, yet I’ve truly NEVER experienced this anywhere else.
Europe’s biggest shortfall is in air defense. This spring, the Dutch chief of defense, General Onno Eichelsheim, told an audience at a panel on European security in Estonia that the Netherlands has only three Patriot air-defense systems—far fewer than is required to defend the entire country. In the case of a large-scale war, he said, “I can’t protect all the vital infrastructure in the Netherlands, so we have to make choices.” Amsterdam, Eichelsheim said, “is not important for me,” whereas Rotterdam is a major port and logistics hub. “So I’m going to protect that.”
I find myself in a very unlucky situation. A year ago my landlord did a whole bathroom renovation including: shower, tiles and a new sink + plumbing. I live with two other roommates F(28) and and M (29) who are respectful and use things normally like me. On friday I fetched something on the sink cabinet and when I closed the drawer the whole thing came down the wall and broke.
We sent the pictures to the landlord and he insists that his ‘klusjesman’ mounted it good with the screws that came with the sink and the cabinet. Mind you its mounted with only two tiny screws (see photo) and the thing is super heavy and one meter deep. But he insists that we must have done something wrong because it cannot ‘just fall’ after one year.
Something also notable is that right after the renovation one year ago the shower was not properly sealed by his workers which caused a serious leakage on the under neighbour. But even with all this he still refuses to pay and wants us to divide the costs of a …
My landlord says I may be the only resident at my address, this is in our rental agreement. I’m getting married, and have asked permission to have my wife stay with me after the marriage. They have rejected this. Is this allowed?
My flatmate has moved out and the contract has continued on just my name. She does not need to be on the contract.
Any help is appreciated!
