Today the NRC published a story about Bunq contacting us.
As moderators of /r/Amsterdam, we are volunteers working to help provide community and discussion for the city we love. One of our values, in Dutch tradition, is open dialog. Following that value, we only delete posts if they break our rules (for example, hate/intolerance, spam, or intentional lies). We think the best way to respond to something we disagree with is to disagree publicly and politely. We don’t always get this right, but we try our best to live up to our values.
In July of 2024, a user made a post to /r/Amsterdam giving their complaints, as a former employee, of Bunq. Because the post was relevant to /r/Amsterdam, we approved the post. We regularly see posts from people complaining about their employers or asking for feedback about potential employers. In fact, this was not the first time Bunq had been discussed. Twice in the past five years there’s been posts from people interviewing at Bunq looking for feedback …
So if you do tax evasion it starts with 3 years but raping someone gets 1 year? What’s wrong with the Dutch laws…
I know I said I was going to 📝 a suggestive Mods v. Bunq legal team 😏 creative writing piece…
…but went full old school meme vid instead 🎭🧌🤌
Please enjoy potentially the most famous meme’d bunkqer ever.
(Don’t 🌧️ bunq, it’ll be ☀️🌈💐 soon)
I have lived in 4 different continents and have found the meat quality and prices outrageous here in NL. What you get at the supermarket chains are very low quality (and very pricey given the quality) and what you get at the butcher is ridiculously expensive with mediocre quality. For a country with cows grazing on every single green piece of land this is very strange. Anyone got an explanation?
I will just start by saying I am aware this is not the case if you have a 0 hour contract. But hour/permanent contracts don’t have a sick day limit, so why do people go to work sick and make everyone else sick? I thought we learned to be decent after COVID…
Hi all.
I live in a small town - Assendelft - for a year now. I’m Greek and came here because my job demanded so.
I’ve found life and culture here so.. gezellig. Until now.
I have a dog and I walk by the same path every other day. After I got out of a dog path, I started passing by some houses. The owner of one of those had just parked outside. It was dark. My dog stranded in the corner smelling a street light and after a while doing nothing but smelling we continued. I passed by that person and said “Hi” while continuing walking away.
That person followed me and shouted at me:
“Are you going to clean that?”.
I understand Dutch but I can’t (yet) speak so I asked him if we could please speak in English. Then, with a slightly ironic tone he said:
He: You know you should clean your dog’s shit?
Me: Yes but she did not do something.
He: Yeah, right. And you were standing there watching inside houses. People clean their dog’s …
I’m a US national (hopefully soon to be Dutch national too) who’s lived here in NL for 5 years now and have worked here for the last 4. I have been struggling immensely with finding a job right now since my last job contract ended in July and I have NO IDEA if something is just wrong with my profile or if the job market is really this bad.
A little background about me, I came here to do my master’s 5 years ago and then immediately found work. For the past 4 years I’ve worked at Dutch WO universities either as a lecturer or as admin support (think jobs such as “program coordinator” or “support officer”), largely in political science fields. I am natively fluent in English and Russian and B2 in Dutch (with my B1 inburgeringsdiploma).
I have only been able to get 3 interviews since I started seriously looking in April. My last interview was in August. I’ve had numerous people, including former colleagues look over my CV and cover letters to make sure all is good and I’ve gotten nothing …
