Dear tourists,
As someone who cycles in Amsterdam daily, please please please put some effort into learning the cycling rules and etiquette.
I know it is charming and all, and you come to Amsterdam thinking: Ah, I will cycle around and it will be wonderful and magical, and I will hop on the bike and cycle these magical streets, and blah blah blah. Yes, this is all charming and all, very nice dream and goal. But if you want to do that, be respectful of the locals. Cycling here is not a cute leisure activity. It is a mode of transportation. Like when you were getting your car license, and are further attentive in car traffic, and follow all the car rules - there are rules for cyclists in Amsterdam!!
I very often see the following:
-People abruptly stopping to check something on their phones or on the street
-Cycling next to each other while being extreeeeemly slow
-Not singling change of direction
-Pedestrians jumping out on the street to cross out of nowhere
-Treating bike lanes …
MAGA = Make America Go Away! 🇪🇺
The EU is working hard to become less dependent on America, Russia, and China. They are doing this by building up their own defense capabilities, strengthening strategic sectors (such as AI, energy, and semiconductors), and protecting critical supply chains. They are investing in renewable energy, encouraging European cooperation, and adapting legislation to strengthen the internal market. In this way, Europe is striving for greater autonomy and resilience.
Of course, we can also do something ourselves to become less dependent.
Do you mainly invest in American investments?
Sell American shares and invest in European shares.
One example is the STOXX Europe 600.
Last year, it yielded a return of 18%.
This year, it has already yielded a return of more than 3%.

If you are looking for a European asset manager, there is Amundi.
Amundi is a European company. It is a French asset manager …
Johan de Witt, who effectively served as the Prime Minister of the Dutch Republic, was murdered by a mob in The Hague in 1672 during the catastrophic Year of Disaster. That year, invasions by France and other enemies triggered widespread fear, economic collapse, and public panic. Amid the chaos, De Witt was blamed for the crisis, while his political rivals from the pro-monarchy House of Orange stoked popular anger against his republican leadership.
De Witt and his brother Cornelis were brutally lynched, and several historical accounts report that parts of their bodies were cannibalised by members of the mob—an act that shocked Europe and remains one of the darkest episodes in Dutch history. Today, the tragedy stands as a stark reminder of how political manipulation, misinformation, and unchecked public rage can destabilise a nation and lead to horrifying consequences, even within a society that values democracy.
I (26F) can’t take this anymore. I guess I have always been a sensitive person. People always tell me I should have a thick skin. I try to practice stoicism, but I guess no luck here.
My boyfriend and I moved to the Netherlands two years ago. He got a job here, and I was very eager to get out of the Christian community in South Africa, so we went. We bought a house here and boom. I felt happy with more open minded people and with a system that isn’t corrupt. I really love this country.
However, I have entered the workforce and I have never felt like such an outsider. I know, what did I expect. I am in a different country for fuck’s sake. I just thought that since I could understand the language, I speak Afrikaans, and I could communicate in Dutch pretty well, I only speak Dutch at work, that I would be welcomed with open arms. Instead, I am a “kut buitenlander”.
My colleagues told me last night that my boss was saying that behind my back. I am not surprised, because my colleagues …
