Ik ben witheet. Gelukkig rook ik niet maar als een jonge knaap van 16 jaar op zo’n onbeschofte wijze een sigaret opeist en ik weiger vind ik het buitengewoon onredelijk om iemand zijn tanden uit zijn bek te slaan.

Helaas staat Nederland er slecht op voor de toerist.

I was taking a somewhat late night walk in the neighborhood last week - maybe around 12:30 on Tuesday or Wednesday night. Turned the corner and just about ran into a couple leaned up on that small utility box, having loud and admirably enthusiastic sex.

I wasn’t quite sure how to react - I mean, I was less than a meter away when I realized what was going on. In the end, I just walked away down a different street. I do feel sorry for my neighbors, though. But in the future, what do you do?

A) Ignore them, give them a wide berth, and leave them to it

B) Acknowledge them, walk on by

C) Cheer them on and give the guy a hearty, encouraging slap on the ass

My toddler knows the meaning but otherwise often even quite sane looking adults get a bit emotional if I stop them and tell them (for free) what the sign means?

Hi all! As a fun side-project I built a small web map of my own city, Groningen, where you can watch the buses glide around in real time, a cute little isometric toy-city. I enjoy looking at it on a second monitor :) Today I decided to try adding a few more cities, and Utrecht was one of them, so I figured I’d share it here too:

You can click buses, trams and stops for live departure times, follow a vehicle around, and switch cities from the panel in the corner.

Amsterdam (after Utrecht) got a bonus the other cities didnt: trams! They look a little janky, but I think they still look kinda cute :)

Some additional notes:
- The settings (cogwheel) menu contains options to render buildings in greyscale (for visibility), a performance mode (for slower/mobile devices - it makes things look a little worse but still faithful to the idea), some chill music and a few other toggles.

A chain smoker has moved into an apartment on the ground floor directly below me. Needless to say, the smoke is creating an uncomfortable living situation for me. I cannot keep the windows open without stinking up my place. This is doubly annoying in this heatwave. He seems to be smoking from early in the morning until after midnight. I have set an alarm to open windows at 01:00 and close at 07:00, but that interrupts my sleep.
What can I do without coming across as an annoying Karen neighbour? How can I raise the subject that his smoking is lessening the quality of life for his neighbours. I do feel sorry for people who have reached the point in life that they just sit and smoke all day long.

Edit. I am aware that it is legal for the neighbour to smoke in his garden. Which is why I’m hesitant to ask him to quit smoking there. I’d ask him to please move away from the building, but his lawn is in even …
