I like that hes being so modest and is not after his 5 minutes of fame after the incident, Amsterdam and the world need more people like him.
Arrived at the Espresso hotel today and found 2 bed legs with flashing red lights on them. Before I go down and ask to “speak to the manager”, any ideas or thoughts about what, why, wtf this is ?
I’ve been living in Amsterdam for nearly 7 years and this new, temporary attraction at the Nieuwe Kerk is breathtaking. Just when I’ve thought I’ve seen every classic view of the city, I’m surprised that something like this can pop up out of nowhere. Gave me a whole new perspective of the city. Could’ve spent the entire evening up there! Personally recommend even if tickets are a little expensive. Anyone else been up there or do you think it’s just a tourist trap?
I recently built a web app called Lijssie.nl — it helps you create your grocery list and tells you which supermarket combination is the cheapest.
Instead of just showing you where something is cheapest, it does the math across multiple stores. So for example: • Buy your cheese at Lidl • Avocados from AH (Bonus) • Snacks from Jumbo Lijssie shows you the best combo and the total price difference.
You can: • Pick which stores you’re willing to go to • Automatically compare prices and deals • Install it as a PWA (Progressive Web App) on your phone or desktop • Share your list with others (great if you live with someone)
I made this as a hobby and it started out as a simple grocery list app my housemates. Would love any feedback or ideas — it’s still early but fully usable.
I know this doesn’t apply to all of you, it’s just something that’s in my experience particular to Americans I see around. Living in the Randstad we have quite a few Americans, you can always recognize them…
My question or note to you. Please for the love of god or whatever can you lower your damn loudness?! Every single damn time, in a restaurant, in a cafe, on the public transport, nearly everywhere I see you… you’re always so frickin loud! Everybody looks at you annoyed but you got no social awareness to notice! The volume in which you talk and laugh sounds way louder than is necessary in any sort of situation.
Just please lower your volume, you don’t have to shout to hear/understand each other. Just speak on a normal level, it’s just extremely annoying and makes me personally just hate having you around in any public setting. Especially restaurants/cafe’s…
I don’t know what to do. We have reported it to the police but they are not taking it seriously and not doing any investigation. Has anyone else been receiving similar letters. Do you have any suggestions?
We live in Purmerend.
I’m genuinely baffled. I’ve been browsing rental listings across different Dutch cities — Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, even smaller towns — and I’m seeing studios going for €1,200+ and two-bedroom places pushing €2,000+ like it’s normal.
Is there a secret lottery you win to afford these places? Is everyone just rooming with 3 other people and calling it a day? I’m not even trying to live in a canal house with gold faucets — just something basic with a door and a roof!
Are there any signs this is going to level off? Or are we on track for €3,000 studios and bunk beds in broom closets?
Would love to hear what others are paying, where you live, and how you’re managing. Or if you’ve just given up and moved to a tent in the forest. No judgment.
