Hi I wanted to put some positive energy out there after an amazing experience with the city in a recent layover.
My partner left her bag containing her macbook, headphones and other valuables on a bus in to the city. We assumed it was lost but put an entry on to the iLost online platform and then hoped for the best.
Within 24 hours it had been found, added to the platform and then posted to us. We recieved it today and all the contents were still inside.
Also while we were in the city people offered their seats, to help carry our luggage and were generally pleasant. Systems & metro were efficient and everything was clean and organised.
This is what a high-trust society with great values looks like 🙏
Having lived in other large cities in other wealthy countries this is usually not the norm.
Thank you Amsterdam.
I find this cute, but seriously, what’s the plan for the development of tourism in Amsterdam?
It gives me bad vibes how the municipality allow these shops unrestrictively, more and more tiktok queues in De Pijp and Jordaan (https://www.reddit.com/r/Amsterdam/comments/1tgkd0g/laundry_boy/). 2x2 shops that serve hundreds of customers appearing every single day, saturating the streets, doorsteps, and in extreme cases like 9 street, displacing local stores and killing the charming vibes. I understand Amsterdam city is alive and it evolving, but it’s sad they main driving force for these changes is tourism and to satisfy the social media algorithms.
I had a conversation with a Thuisbezorgd dude outside the Etos on Haarlemmerstraat this morning (10:00uur Tweede Pinksterdag).
If you happen to see a happy, chatty Thuisbezorgd dude playing good summer music, could you ask him for the name of his playlist?
He told me he made the playlist special for today and Chinese Man is the centerpiece. DJ Nu Mark, Unwind was the song that got my attention.
Anyway, it’s rare that I’m grateful for dudes playing music on their fat bikes, but I like this guy’s spirit and his tunes.
Good luck in the heat my dude, thanks for the summer spirit.
I’ve realized I usually go back to restaurants for one specific dish, not the restaurant itself.
So I’m curious:
What’s ONE dish in Amsterdam you keep thinking about?
(Not the best restaurant overall, literally one specific dish)

TL;DR: couldn’t even win a bidding war on a 28m² studio because the housing market is completely cursed, so I somehow ended up buying a medieval castle instead. Turns out, heating 14 stone chambers costs the GDP of a small nation, and I spend half my life walking to the west wing just to charge my phone. Save yourself.
Thought I’d share a cautionary tale for anyone currently doomscrolling Funda while slowly losing their sanity.
For context, I always dreamed of a tiny studio. You know, cosy little city goblin vibes. One room, maybe a small balcony, enough space for a couch, desk, and air fryer. But last year, thanks to the absolutely deranged property market, every 30m² shoebox in Amsterdam had 2000 viewings and bids from tech couples offering their unborn child over asking price.
Meanwhile, this enormous 13th-century castle had been sitting on the market untouched because apparently people “don’t want to maintain a moat anymore.” So I thought: screw it. I’ll become a …

I dont think Im going to get it.
So I went to pick up my dad from the airport yesterday and just before we left I had to take a leak.
So as I walk into the toilet some non dutch guy was looking super bleak and confused at me as I looked at him. He was wiping his face with wet tissues for some reason. He kept keeping eye contact with me and I just kept looking at him like tf is going on with you?
Then he said “I smoked too much.” to which I replied go get something with sugar in it a candy bar or a drink with sugar. He then looked at me like I was a wise man said “Ok I will do that, thank you.” and he took off and I never felt more proud.
