I read this article today and it got me really inspired to tinker more with automatically adjusting my watch.
As the article shows, I set Shortcuts up to change my Watch face - in this case at night, it changes to a monochrome face with reduced content, and then switches back in the morning.
I played a bit further and created one that, when I visit my local cinema, switches my Watch to theatre mode and, on my phone, uses Focus Mode to turn off notifications. When I walk away, it puts them all back again.
Next, I want to try and combine both and have my watch face switch when I leave the country. I can see how to do it but not sure how to get that to co-exist with the top change (i.e. as it stands, when I leave the country it will change to a specific face but when it hits night or morning will revert back). I have some ideas and will share here once I un-tangle it all.
I feel too bad unsubscribing as I listened in the past…
My children recently passed away and I need a good podcast to listen that isn’t sad, or mention children . I usually do true crime but they are a bit much right now .
I hate talking on the phone partly because the way phone calls flatten and compress people’s voices makes them hard for me to understand, talking to someone on a land-line is the absolute worst at this, back in the day before cellphones my ears were adapted to it better but these days I find it unbareable. I also know I’m not the only blue collar guy listening to podcasts while surrounded with loud and heavy machinery either, so why do all these shows that are often produced by these media companies with decent amounts of money just play phone call audio in the middle of these well mixed and recorded shows? I mean get some voice actors or something, nothing is worse to me than getting really into a good episode and then having to struggle to understand what this garbled ass voice is trying to say, especially in the true crime/investigative journalism genre (I’m lookin at you “Vanished”). I just wanna understand the shows I’m listening to man.
Hi everyone,
Due to recent developments between Russia & Ukraine there is likely to be a lot of demand for podcasts covering either side.
To that end we have decided to set up this MEGATHREAD for users to share podcasts about the subject. We are also going to automatically remove new posts relating to the subject (as of 8:45am EST, when I’m posting this) and direct you to post in here.
This is a heavy political issue and this will help the mod team keep things civil and also create a central place for people to inform themselves.
NOTE ON SELF PROMOTION - Our rule about self promotion still stands across the subreddit, but if you happen to have a podcast or podcast episode that appropriately covers the developing situation between Russia & Ukraine, you will be allowed to share it here.
Thank you!
Looking to make more use of my podcasts app and a big interest I have is true crime and the paranormal. Nothing is really off limits within these two topics, so anything goes
What I am looking for though is a single podcast channel that does different stories each episode (or each story lasts a couple episode) and then they move on to another story, so I’m not having to constantly search for new channels all the time
I feel like it’s hard to find podcasts that explain everything as simple as possible. I’m not the smartest chicken in the yard so it takes a bit more for me to understand the terms. :‘)
Just a Jewish-American who is very tired of reading about Jewish trauma. Looking for books centered on Jewish joy and the Jewish experience that aren’t centered around the Holocaust or other generational trauma. I love Safran Foer and have read Portnoy’s Complaint, but not much outside of that. TIA!
*Edit: Wow, I didn’t expect to get so many amazing responses! My reading list just got exponentially longer. Thanks y’all :)
Hello. With current world affairs, I wanted to look into Ukrainian literature that is available in English. I typically read science fiction, fantasy, and horror, but I am open to other genres.
Hi! I feel very drawn to the bell jar, but i feel like it’s the wrong call hahahaha I’m going down a very dark path in my life at the moment and battling self harm and cptsd, and it’s getting more and more overwhelming each day. Please suggest anything you think could lift my spirits! Anything that could make me laugh. Please nothing about friendships, if that’s ok; lord of the rings kind of depresses me just because of how beautiful and unattainable it is. Something mundane, not particularly fantastic, but not bad either; something to make me giggle and keep on going, but not instill insecurity or hopelessness in me! I know, tough, but hey I’ll try anything :) thanks!
I’m thinking anything in the business, tech, political sphere. I’m pretty open but would love any books where the author is a good storyteller while still being academic / informative. I love walking away feeling like I learned a lot and want to read more into the topic.
Thank you in advance! I’m shredding through books this year and appreciate anything 🤠
Edit: I’m actually so thrilled with all of the suggestions. Thank you everyone! Thinking of making a spreadsheet with all of the titles so I can properly review all suggestions… who’s joining a book club with me?! Thank you!!!
My question is similar to another post in this sub reddit, but more general. I’d like to get to know the classic Ukrainian writers and particularly some of their best known lines- especially those that are relevant to this moment.
Hello, a little trigger warning here. I dont know if it’s appropriate here. I suffering from severe depression, anxiety and panic disorder. The thoughts about suicide and self-harm are extreme and I am afraid I will lose the fight someday. Sadly I search for a therapist over a year now without luck. I thought maybe some books could be a little help until I get therapy or help. Do you know any books that help to overcome those suicidal thoughts and negative thoughts or some that could help a bit?
Edit: Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and recommendations. You guys helped me to get through the day. I know that books can’t heal those thoughts, I just want to try some that could help me until I get professional help. Thank you all 💕
2D or 3D
emphasis on block and parry system where individual player skills matter more than in game character skill and ability.
no souls or Elden ring
tnx
I am finishing Read Dead Redemption 2 and I am already thinking about where I go next from here.
I am looking for games that have a portrayal of a realistic world. Similar to RDR portraying “America” in 1899, or GTA portraying modern America. I love that it’s portraying the real world as opposed to some completely fantastical world.
I enjoyed the early AC games a ton because of similar reasons - presenting the world at a particular point in time with minimal magic.
Would love suggestions!
I’ve for a while been looking for games that make some effort to accurately portray modern diplomacy, especially in regards to:
And most important of all, actual diplomatic negotiations rather than the “25% chance to join alliance” dice roll system that is so prevalent in grand strategy games of any period.
If you know any game that seems to fit the bill at least to some extent, please let me know!
Not necessarily in gameplay, but something with the sames themes of managing cults, magic rituals and eldrich lore
I love the idea of getting loot in a dangerous area and coming back to my “base” / “safe zone” for keep it or sell it to make profit. I’m currently looking for shooters where I have to prepare for a mission, meaning I have to carry the right weapon and enough food to face the challenge, and also with EFT “raid mechanic” where I go on a mission and get the things back I looted during that mission.
Games that I think are similar and I have played before:
Stalker Anomaly <– With some mods it makes the game exactly how I described it above.
EFT, DayZ, Deadside, Scum <– However, I’m looking for singleplay.
Zero Sievert, PZ <– I really enjoy those.
7DTD, Outward, Borderlands <– Are OK.
