I need a simple Dead Man’s Switch feature that can detect if the phone has not been turned on or used at all for 24 hours and then notify me. The use case is for my mom and she has a pet dog so I would like to be notified ASAP if something does happen to my mom so I can check up on her and the dog.
There is an iOS app I found called “Dead Man Tracker” but it requires you to open the app every day (a habit that my mom will not be able to pick up).
I am addicted to coffee and drink 3-5 cups of coffee without realizing it. I used tracking apps, but I hate seeing millions of notifications and scrolling around the screen to do it. Because of the friction, I never ended up sticking with it.
I then got into the NFC rabbit hole and figured out a way to automatically track each cup I drink with Apple Shortcuts entirely automatically.

Here is how I set ut up:

My girlfriend has been having trouble sleeping lately and when she sleeps at my place my automations disrupt her sleep. I wake up early and have Siri speak things when I turn my alarm off. I also have other automations I’d like to edit for when my girlfriend is with me to minimize disturbing her sleep. If she’s sharing her location with me, can I use that in a shortcut?
Any genre, but you can only pick 1!
I’ve only recently gotten into podcasts, but it’s hard finding ones with satisfying endings. The most recent podcast I listened to about a missing person came up with no likely theories, and is a complete mystery. Very unsatisfying!
Two that I did like, were a podcast about Curtis Flowers called In the Dark, and a podcast about a victim Joann Tate called the Real Killer. Both of these podcasts were more investigative than storytelling, and both had resolutions even if not 100% solved.
I’m going on a 20+ hour road trip this week, and I wanted to get opinions for good story telling podcasts. I like series that tell a story, but I’m open to queuing up several episodes of good shows! To give an idea of what I’m looking for, Roadtrippy shows I’ve loved in the past-
Dolly Parton’s America; S-Town; Dr. Death; House on Loon Lake (this american life episode); EAR/ONS casefile series; I’m not a monster
I’ve got sweet bobby on the list already because I’ve seen it recommended on here so much! Anything else along those lines would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Saw this recommended on here a while ago so I started listening, I think it’s WILDLY underrated. I listen to a lot of “comedian” podcasts and most of them are just kind of charming but not funny. This show is great, especially if you want to lean into your depression. They’re bummed out in the most entertaining way.
They’re two standups who just talk about whatever. The main themes seem to be how the internet is turning all of our brains to mush.
Amway I think the show is good and I don’t want them to stop doing it so please check it out.
Looking for recommendations- any genre- funniest, most interesting, thought provoking, deep, etc. Thanks!
Something that covers things like bigfoot, mothman, aliens, government conspiracies. Can’t say I believe 98% of what I hear but I still find it entertaining
or collections of essays or books that tackle about the oppressed, poverty, racism inequalities, dictatorship, revolution. books that’s like Pedagogy of the Oppressed. thank you
What’s a book that you hated with a passion after reading it? The kind of book you would never recommend?
Edit: thank you everyone for all the answers! I’m actually adding some titles to my never-ending list of books I want to read (call me a masochist 😅)
So, as the title says I want something disturbing. I haven’t read anything yet that I would not read again, I’m revolted by, or any of the sort. Now this can be disturbing concepts like no mouth must scream type, disturbing imagery, etc… With gore I like books where it actually means something, like Tender Is the Flesh. Books where it’s just murder bc why not are not for me, just boring. I like extremely messed up realities too, so extreme dystopia stuff is fun too.
I hope to see what you all have to say. Thank you for your time :).
oh, sad disturbing stuff is cool too!
Edit: Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I promise I see them all I just get overwhelmed about responding. Thank you again!
I would love to read an excellent book first and then watch a nice movie version of it afterwards. But sadly most of the book-based films that I know are not nearly as good as the books.
Update: Wow, I didn’t expect such a huge amount of contributions to this post. Thank you all for your answers! Sadly I‘m not able to reply to all of you (I guess it would literally take me hours), but I‘m thrilled to read and watch your recommended books and movies! I think we have a great collection of literature and films here which is still growing as I write these lines. Thank you!
I’ve seen some books like these in movies and tv shows like for example in Parks and Rec when April reads Joan Callamezzos book. Idk if books like that exist but I just want to read some absolute trash, like something so bad it’s funny.
I’m in the mood for something strange, where reality itself starts degrading somehow. Not sure exactly what I’m looking for, so I’m open for suggestions :)
I’d really prefer if it didn’t involve some sort of ending along the lines of “and then they woke up from a weird dream” or similar drug induced explanations, just because that seems like an “easy” solution to pretty much any story and doesn’t really ever offer any good closure.
Anything come to mind?
thanks :)
I’m so tired of realistic FPSs.
I want something with grapple hooks, jet-packs, double jumps, super jumps, portals, teleporters, bounce pads, and crouch slides. I want sticky grenades, swords, gravity guns, disc guns, gravity hammers, banana peels, moltovs, explosives with huge knockback, boomerangs, bows and arrows. I want environmental hazards. I want to self destruct. I want to inconvenience people on both teams. I want to try something that probably won’t work but would be hilarious if it did.
Overwatch, Splitgate, and Screen Cheat are the closest I could find.
The game itself doesn’t have to be comedy. I just wanna have fun.
Must have online multiplayer.
tl;dr: looking for a wacky FPS with online multiplayer
Looking for games for my sister. As for requirements I would say:
-Low skill floor
-Minimal Reading required
-Low Focus on Narrative
-Doesn’t punish if you don’t play the „intended“ way
So far the only games that she enjoyed were GTA V and Minecraft because they are very beginner friendly and sandboxy. Any good suggestions that come to mind?
P.S. She didn’t like Elden Ring
As the title says. I’ve finished Elden Ring after Red dead redemption 2 and The Witcher 3, and having played three open world in a row is driving me nuts. I play on pc and I’m looking for something similar to God Of War 2018 (which I have already played) thx to all EDIT: wow I went to sleep and this post literally exploded! I cannot thank all of you individually but thanks!!!!
Hi, I’m looking for something of the sort:
Thank you!
