I’m a longtime listener and I have listened to almost all episodes of TAL. I first got hooked in 2015, binged every archived episode from their website, and followed almost all subsequent episodes from there.
I think around 2017 or 2018 there was a shift from slice of life stories to stories around Trump and the effects of his policies. I’m absolutely not a Trump supporter and these were/are important topics. Obviously world events from 2020 onwards have been insane, and so they’ve continued to do mostly current events related stories. But I just wish there was just a bit more of a balance between current event topics and the fun slice of life stuff.
Anyone remember the episode about summer camp? Or the story about the police officer that tried to capture a squirrel that was stuck in someone’s house?
I felt like TAL at this time told these really sweet and relatable stories that made me feel more connected to others.
If this isn’t what TAL is about anymore then that’s okay, but I …
I know it had to end. After all the stuff that went down, it just couldn’t recover. But I’m just so sad to see it go. So many long journeys were made bearable by this show. Just hope something amazing comes along to fill the gap it has left.
Hi all. I want to recommend this podcast. It’s best watched on YouTube as there is a video accompaniment.
It’s historical but not as dry as your usual history podcast - the storytelling really captures your imagination. There has been a new release on The Nabataeans. I would personally recommend the Sumerian(episode 8.
I can’t praise it enough.
Happy listening !
I am looking for some podcasts that I might be able to catch over the next week or so that will break down the Supreme Court rulings from this week and their possible ramifications. For reference, I usually get my news from NPR. TIA!
This has probably been asked before so I apologize if it sounds old. I am looking for murder or true crime podcasts that doesn’t add the hosts opinion on every matter of the case. I am looking for ones that have a more of a “matter of fact” layout . TIA!
That recent ad read that I’m 100% sure you’re all aware of is far from the first product I’ve seen almost every podcast I watch promote, but it’s the first time a specific ad read has stood out that much to me, and I’m sure not in the way they intended. I’m not particularly bothered by it, I just find it interesting.
With other ads you’d hear a common sentence or two between different creators’ reads, maybe a paragraph or two for raid and Raycon, but usually the people I watch would throw some adlib in there to make it interesting. But this better help ad going around is so identical with every read and with so little deviation from that script that it makes me wonder if they just offered everyone like 3x the standard ad rate to just read the prompt strictly verbatim, which would be straight up nuts lol
I remember the controversy with them a couple years back and although it’s never been something I’m interested in (even if I’d never had any concerns whatsoever about it), I was …
My favorite non-fiction book is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb.
My favorite fiction book is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
^^ the title! I love haruki murakami’s writing style and the sort of surrealism, but I cannot stand the way he writes women. Any authors that are similar?
I was raised by a malignant narcissist father. I’m 25 and not happy with who I am now. I am moving across the country to start med school next month but I have such imposter syndrome & my anxiety is through the roof. I’m so scared of being unable to make friends & being lonely for the rest of my life because I already have social anxiety. I’m also super terrified of not doing well in school and realizing I don’t have what it takes. This is the first time I’m going to be away from my controlling dad but I’m mostly scared more than excited.
Are there any books to change my mindset? To help me be confident & less anxious?
Whether it be an immortal, time traveler or maybe reincarnation? I’m not really that interested in the future. Mainly just the past and the present.
As the title says I am looking for some good non-fiction it could be anything.
Edit : Thank you all for the suggestions, I did not expect so many suggestions so I will try to go through all of them as patiently as possible. I have read some and some are on my wishlist but not read most of them.
Any genre. Any author. Anything. Just took a nearly week break from reading because nothing caught my attention for long enough. What page turners do you have?
I never quite got over my childhood Cool Big Lizard phase. I’m also horrible at shooters and don’t want to hurt the Cool Big Lizards. Unless I’m playing as a Cool Big Lizard, then beating up other Cool Big Lizards is fine.
I like how the chapter breaks in Wildermyth simultaneously convey the dual messages that what you did helped a lot and made things better, but also that evil doesn’t completely go away all nice and clean after one big fight.
Are there any other games with that sense of time passing and things being good for a while, letting the character enjoy the fruits of their labor for a little while before it gets bad again? Almost like a mid-game epilogue.
kinda like stardew valley but with the focus on building (similar to mysims in a way).
Would be awesome if the town grew over time, with more people coming in.
A bit like terraria where you build rooms and people start joining (but no fighting preferably).
Something with a serious tone. Good atmosphere. Bad shit happens. Your not invincible. Neither are the important characters. Characters struggle. A game that I can connect to and feel emotion. Examples:
GTAIV, This war of mine, Red dead 1 (My pc cant handle the second), SOMA, COD series (some of them),
Some examples of games that had that atmosphere but didnt really make my eyes water:
Dead space 3, Metro 1 and 2, Stalker series, Darkwood, Fallout 3, The long dark, Watch dogs,
Im also gonna throw in the book “All quiet on the western front” because game examples can only go so far.
It doesnt have to be everything i mentioned all at once. Im fine with games that meet halfway.
Feeling like playing something legitimately creepy. I’d prefer something that doesn’t rely only on jump scares but keeps you constantly tense. Thanks!
Tired of shooting infinite bullets all the time. Is there a game that offers a limited supply of ammo and makes it a bit more challenging as to when to actually use some of the ammo you collected
