I made this years ago initially, when Shortcuts was buggier and you couldn’t actually do much with SSH. Now however, you can basically do everything on your Windows computer from your iPhone including sharing files, which makes this possible.
You need one base shortcut (SSH Main) which …
I was tired of having to use systems like snapdrop to share files and text between my computer and my phone.

So this summer I decided to make my own Airdrop to easily and quickly share files and my clipboard between my Windows computer and my Iphone.
It works with a python HTTP Server running on the computer and a shortcut on the iphone.
It’s still very beginner for the moment but my ambition is to make it cleaner and more ergonomic.

I would be happy to have your opinions

With the new IFTTT update comes the integration of applets (button trigger only) and shortcuts, finally.
I’ve been listening to this podcast for 3+ years now and it’s a tragedy how far under the radar it’s gone. If you’re a history buff like I am, It’s everything you ever wanted out of an English class.
The quality of historical and literary analysis is second to none. I’ve listened to every famous history podcast from, History of Rome, Hardcore history, Revolutions, Tides of History ect. I can say without a doubt Literature and history has surpassed all of them and has an academic rigor I can sometimes find lacking in the others.
It’s written, produced and recorded (including all background music) by Doug Metzger. He summarizes and places into historical context every single important piece of writing in the western cannon. So far he has gone from 3000BCE, the creation of writing in Sumeria, all the way though the Dionysiaca in the 5th century AD and eventually plans on going all the way up though the 1800s.
This has included a 6 part series …
It was a great display of quality journalism - 6 stories tied to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. But the stories were not pandering or extremely one-sided, they included stories from people who were pro choice and pro life and while it’s obvious on which side the team was they never vilified anybody and gave every person there an equal amount of time to express their sentiments towards the issue.
The podcast itself wasn’t exactly high quality for about 3 years or so but the praise is well deserved in this case. This is how a great news/human interest segment works - get all people together who are on opposite sides of a contentious issue and let them talk about their standpoints. A lot of podcasts, especially political podcasts, tend to be very one-sided in their coverage of issues. So it’s a big compliment they didn’t screw this very hot topic up.
If anyone wants to step away from True Crime or Historical podcasts for a minute I recommend This is Love podcast, episode 31, Something Large and Wild. It is about a teenage long distance swimmer who had an encounter with a baby grey whale. I listened a while ago and the story is hauntingly beautiful. I keep thinking about it. It was very different from my usual listens, thought you might enjoy it too.
I’ve been on the premium side of stitcher for a few years now. Originally the benefit was ad-free podcasts and exclusive content. But, I’ve found many of those exclusive shows aren’t so exclusive any more and all of the dozen or so podcasts I regularly listen to somehow have ads now. I’ve double checked my account to make sure I didn’t let my membership lapse, and.. nope that’s not it.
So, what am I paying for?
Basically as the title suggests - I’ve been running into a LOT of commercially driven (I mean, everyone wants to make money and I get that but there’s a Difference between the podcast with 6+ midrolls and the podcast that has one or two sponsors per episode) and it’s starting to bother me.
Not only the ads themselves - I feel like some of these people hosting the shows don’t even really give a fuck about the topic at hand or rather don’t have a personal connection to it. It makes everything feel superficial and ‘fake’. I hope someone out there shares this impression haha
I just want podcasts where you get the sense that the person started podcasting because of an actual passion of theirs, instead of being hosts that were cast by a news station to make money. Not all of these ‘commercial’ Podcasts are bad or not enjoyable to listen to - I just feel like listening to a soulless Moneygrab sometimes, especially in the True-Crime …
Capitalism is wearing me down. I want to hear about people who have escaped the rat race and done something different. Not any “hustle” or “grind,” but people who live outside the normal bounds of our society. Any suggestions? Thanks
Open to any/all genres!
EDITED TO ADD: thank you all so much for the wonderful suggestions. I can’t wait to comb through and pick out a few that pique my interest. Of course, I’ll report back with my findings. I hope this thread serves as a place for you all to find your next read as well.
I have toddler twins and a gifted ADHD/ODD preteen. Not to mention my partner and I have been in marriage therapy since April when we reached what I like to call “end of rope times”.
Suffice it to say, STRESS STRESS AND MORE STRESS.
I digress! I started taking two short budget staycations a year for 1-2 nights since my twins were born to recharge and to be completely “me” instead of “mom and wife”.
I actually hate being a stay at home mom and cannot wait to grow these kiddos up a couple more years so I can join the professional workforce again. Until then, I use gig apps and some of that money goes towards my “Stay Sane Staycations” as I like to call them.
I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for as I typically practice escapism in the form of sci fi but I’m trying to get out of that particular genre for a while.
Realistic/modern fiction perhaps?
Edit: Just now checking this 4 hours later! Wow!!! I have SO many recommendations! Thank you, going through them all will be so much …
The title says it all. I guess I have a love for easy to read, but in-depth fantasy books and I’d love to get some recommendations for others of the same kind.
For a long time I have been feeling really disappointed in my life. I am very close to giving up. I get no joy from anything and have been losing interest in many things. But I have yet to lose interest in books, and maybe reading some interesting books might help me reconsider life. I am open to any kind of book other than self-help books but if you really believe a self- help book might be helpful please share. Thank you in advance.
Andy Serkis did a phenomenal job, and having these stories in your ear while going on long trail runs surrounded by nature made everything that much more immersive. One of my favorite book experiences ever.
I would love to find some more books that would fit this particular activity. I don’t think it has to be fantasy, or even fiction. If you have any recommendations similar to LOTR, that’d be fantastic. But I’m open to anything that you think might fit!
PS: I have already tried “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson, a very popular recommendation around these parts, but wasn’t really a fan. But other than that, I’m open to anything. Thanks!
Edit: Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I can’t respond to everyone, but I’m very grateful.
It’s a little hard for me to express this idea, so please read attentively.
In many stories, whether it is in a later stage or at the beginning, the protagonist feels hopeless and alone, which makes them have deeply suicidal thoughts. They may feel they have messed up big time, like the hardships they are going through are endless or that, even if they do have an end, the wounds that will be inflicted upon them will haunt them for the rest of their lives, outweighing any sort of reward that might come from overcoming those hardships.
With that in mind, they may then feel like there is not a happy resolution for them in which they live out the rest of their lives, as they just seem to get harder and harder, without hope for rest or shelter from the pain and struggle. However, they don’t want to leave their loved ones behind, at least not in a way that harms them and not without repaying them somehow, so they think something like “Okay, I’m gonna accomplish X, …
Hello!
I love game where you are weaker than ennemies and an upfront fight is impossible.
I like when you have to infiltrate, hide, flee, divide groups of ennemies.
And when the only way to kill ennemies is to trick them, set traps, or even cheese them.
I have in mind a few games, especially early on when you’re weak:
I don’t think any game will be 100% like that, but if you have suggestions of games who have early on sections sounding like what I describe, please suggest!
I know that I could also turn any game in this “genre” by playing hard mode… but I’m looking for games designed this way.

Thanks
This is a genre I am so drawn to, but is so niche I have a hard time finding much like it.

I have blackthorn arena
Domina
Garbage
Shadow of war (which is still the best one to do something like this in my opinion)
Xcom 2

most of these are suggestions I actually got from this community, just hoping to find another!
While the sale is on I thought that I might as well get a new game or 5 and wanted some suggestions of good deals that people have found. Any suggestions are welcome: multiplayer, co-op, single player… no specific type of game either just good deals 👍
If you’ve seen the shooting in F.E.A.R you know what o am talking about (or check it on YouTube)
Every bullet you fire has a visual effects, particles of dust and smoke are visible and blood spurts out of enemies. I am not looking for games with the exact same effect but any game where itrs a joy to pull the trigger. Or maybe a game where the muzzle flash, recoil, sound, range and bullet trajectory are all accurate?
With the steam summer sale, Mass Effect legendary edition is on sale for like $25, never having played any of the games I’m wondering if it’s worth it? I generally enjoy games with an open world and good story (preferably one where your decisions effect it)
Hi all. Wondering if anyone knows of any games set in a period-drama style house (think Downton Abbey, Brideshead Revisited), where you manage the house and estate. I’m thinking along the lines of managing the house and gardens, the economics of it but also some good story and drama. Mods for other games would be welcome.
Alternatively, any sim-games with such a setting (I mean simulation, not The Sims though I could see the Sims scratching this itch). Something like a first person game set in a single highly detailed house and gardens. Mystery and drama a bonus, but I’d just love the opportunity to explore all the nooks and crannies of an old house. There was a really old educational game published by Dorling Kindersley (DK) called Castle Explorer that was really fantastic. Something like that would be amazing. I’ve been searching online but can’t see anything quite like what I’m looking for.
