I want my phone to set itself to Do Not Disturb in the middle of the night, but only if I’ve already gone to bed. So I created this automation to turn on Focus only once my phone is on the charger.
In a regular programming language, I could do this in like 4 lines. So I feel like this automation could be greatly improved. Or maybe not. Shortcuts is janky as hell.

I wish Apple would give use a little more control to enable/disable automations without deep-diving into the automation tab.
Screenshot shows a Scriptable widget that shows selected automations with toggles to turn them on/off without opening the Shortcuts app.
I know that (the impressive) Automation control by iBanks3 exists, but the Shortcuts was a little overkill for my needs with all the additional scheduling features and I wanted to have a quick look to see what automations were on/off on the Homescreen.
Anyone else hopes Apple includes better ways to deal with automations like easier ways to turn them on/ off or multiple trigger conditions?
Hi everyone. I’ve been making a home cinema room in my house and I use Apple HomeKit for all my smart home devices. I have Philips Hue lights in my cinema room and I watch all my content (films, TV shows etc) through my Apple TV 4K box.
I would love to be able to have the lights dim (to a specific scene) when I start playing a film. And then if I need to pause what I’m watching, I’d like to trigger another lighting scene. In short, when I press play on my Apple TV remote, or the content plays, or I press pause/content pauses, it would be cool to have my lights dim/brighten depending on the state/button pressed.
Is this at all possible? I’m a complete beginner with Shortcuts and I started playing about and created the attached (see pic), but this only seems to work when I press the actual shortcut button. Is there a way to have the shortcut running ‘always’ in the background and only triggers when I use the Apple TV remote in my cinema room? 🤔 I want this to happen whenever I’m using …
HELLLOOOOO history buffs, boy is this the right podcast for you. I am a big history nerd and if there is one podcast I would be able to give a shout out to, it would be this one. Sabastian Major takes on some big historical topics with very impressive diligence and skepticism. Not only fully diving into the ideologies and culture of the era but then analyzing the historians that wrote about said topic there after. If you want to be able to get and in-depth look on some really big moments that changed human history with a witty, dorky, lovable host, then look no further. I cannot stress enough please do yourself a favor and get this podcast.
Hey, I’m looking for a podcast that is nonfiction and tells a story over 4+ episodes. I like the investigative style of Dr Death and Harsh Reality: The Story of Miriam Rivera. I’ve also listened to other Wondery podcasts like Shrink Next Door, Dirty John, Bad Batch. All those are examples of the podcast style I’m looking for. I don’t really care what the topic is, just that it is good quality.
I’ve seen a few comments about darker topics and those are fine as well. I find war, true crime, old medicine, serial killers etc fascinating.

I want to make clear, Qanon is absolutely crazy, everything I hear is more and more unbelievable but I’m fascinated by the absurdity of it all. The cult like nature of it, how they managed to get so many people to believe it. But I only every hear snippets about it like The JFK is still alive story, trump is the saviour that god sent, I was just wondering if there’s a podcast that does a deep dive on all of it.
I’m looking for some good podcasts that offer stories in hauntings, ghost stories and all around creepy content. Any recommendations?
So for anyone out there that DOESN’T know what S-town is about, this is going to have spoilers throughout.
This is the 2nd time I listened to this podcast. The first time was years ago during its big debut. Although I remember being absorbed by it at the time, all I really remembered is John being a complete character, ranting at Brian through the phone. I also remembered his proclivity for working with clocks. I didn’t remember much else besides that he committed suicide and it felt totally out of the blue.
This time around, I binged it again and can’t believe I didn’t retain more from the first listen. First, I forgot how hilarious John was. From the moment he got on the phone with Brian, I was all ears. Some of his rants were so well-crafted, they sounded like they were written in a writers’ room for a TV show, but he was came up with them on the fly. He was incredibly skilled not just with clocks, but with words.
I can’t believe I …
I love my women unhinged and utterly fucked in the head. I’m sick and tired how books depict the “female rage” as something that only happens whenever males have wronged a woman (Gone Girl). I want insanity that’s unjustifiable. I don’t want any emotions to fuel it. Just plain madness.
Karin Slaughter is my favorite author, if you’re familiar with her work you know most of her books can be quite disturbing, but they aren’t disturbing just for the sake of being disturbing.
I’ve read some disturbing books who did the opposite, just for shock value. So I’m wondering, have you read a disturbing book you also thought was good?
All the books I’ve read where the main character is LGBTQIA+ are books about them discovering themselves, getting bullied for it, creating a love story, etc, which I find monotonous (sorry).
I want a book that’s something like (to use a bad example) Six of Crows but only narrated from Jesper’s POV.
Thank you!
I’ll be finishing the book I’m currently reading in a couple days and want to get into Neil Gaiman. I’ve heard much praise about his works online and was wondering if anyone could help me out about where to start
Books that acknowledge that “the tree remembers what the axe forgets”, that some things may be too much to move past/act like it never happened, even if the wrongdoer realizes they were wrong; and/or acknowledge that coerced forgiveness is unhealthy, books that validate the wronged party’s experiences
I want to start reading more classic books but I don’t know where to start, any suggestions?
Edit: I’m making a booklist with all your recommendations lol, thank you so much!!!
I’ll preface by saying I played wow from classic to cata and slightly in Shadowlands. God the grind shadowlands turned out to be was so annoying.
I loved arenas, the classes, the raiding, the mounts. But god damn the 1 loot per run or per week to get you to keep paying every month was so obvious and annoying. On top of that, with the introduction of parses and all these sweats, it’s just not fun trying to group when everyone only wants god tier specs/playstyles.
All that to say. I sorely miss my fury warrior, and if anyone has a similar vibe in a different game, please share that here.
There are several games where you sell stolen goods to an NPC for a tasty profit… but are there any where you play as the fence, buying stolen goods from thief NPCs and trying to move them on the black market? All my searches have come up empty-handed. Cheers.
I’m full time remote and have a job that ebbs and flows throughout the shift…. and times can be like, play for five minutes, work for five minutes. Wonder what kind of game would be good for a lot of stop and go playing.
So there’s a lot of “something simulator” on the market these days, and a lot of them tend to be not that great. They’re an interesting concept, but there’s not enough meat on the bones, or it’s in early access hell, or it quickly becomes buggy abandonware.

There are some, though, that I keep coming back to, because they’re broken out of that cycle, and they feel pretty solid. Examples I really like:
- Car mechanic simulator
- My summer car
- Cooking simulator
- Gas Station simulator (new one I recently found that inspired me to make this - I didn’t think it’d be great, but I quite enjoyed it after trying it)

Does anyone have others I might be a fan of? I do like the car stuff, sure, but I’m a fan of anything really that has some degree of realism, but also a certain degree of silliness, too. Cooking sim for instance requires some finesse and speed at the higher levels, and some prep to do …
Here’s a weird one. What is your favorite game where the player actions, at least in the beginning, merely influence (if anything) the situation of the game? By that I mean, you may be a hero, or a famous general, or the Chosen One, or maybe not; regardless, your actions in the world merely influence the world, rather than define or drive it.
Example: any paradox game, but especially crusader kings. Sure, you’re the king. But you’re just A king. There’s hundreds of others with their own agendas and decisions that affect the world just like your decisions do.
Another example: Kenshi. You’re just a dude. Your decisions may not even matter in the grand scheme of the game world, at least not until later.
Yet another, less orthodox example; SimCity 4. Sure, you’re an omnipotent mayor. But your citizens have their own needs, and at best, you can merely influence the development of the city, rather than dictate every house and backyard.
Other examples …
