Hey folks — I searched and couldn’t find relevant results, so forgive me in advance.
I was an avid user of wind-down shortcuts in iOS 14 and 15. What I loved about the feature was the ability to access useful shortcuts directly from the lock screen (example: resume Overcast playback, set HomeKit lighting scenes, etc.). I didn’t install iOS 16 beta until the RC was released yesterday, so I probably missed if/when this was announced, but I was disappointed last evening to realize that this feature has been removed! I guess I can see how the Lock Screen redesign made this feature expendable, or perhaps I was one of 6 people worldwide who used this feature 😩
Would appreciate the community’s insight on possible reasons this feature was removed. I guess the next best option for me is … widgets on the Today view (one extra swipe, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers).
This is just how I, a person with ADHD, keep track of my events. This shortcut just sets alarms for 30 minutes before each calendar event to remind you about it. I have it automated to run every morning. Only downside is you end up with a whole lot of alarms.

For those who prefer reminders over alarms, here’s one for reminders: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/12711e7e1556457f927f4f91969527fc
So Google Drive gives you a link which does not directly point to the file, but instead a wrapper.
This shortcut replaces https://drive.google.com/file/d/<<ID>>/view
to https://drive.google.com/uc?id=\
`<
It get’s the link from the text selection, or if it’s empty, the clipboard, and copies the new link back to the clipboard.

I’m still a newbie, suggestions are always welcomed!
UPDATE: Now it also works with dropbox links.
For me, it is Heavyweight #29, Elyse.
For the uninitiated, Elyse had a deep relationship with her father, who was otherwise a total shitlord. One day, a decade ago, he packed his bags and left the country. In this episode, Jonathan and Elyse track him down.
Let me just tell you.. there are several moments where I deadass stopped folding my laundry and stared blankly with my mouth agape.
Do you have any episode recommendations that hit you like this?
I’ve been listening to Someone Knows Something and am looking for more like this. Podcasters that actively investigate. It doesn’t have to be a true crime podcast. I’m also interested in high strangeness and political topics also. Bonus points if there is a tip off to the case or event. A concerned citizen or entity that turns the investigator onto the subject.
17 year old looking for hilarious comedy podcast recommendations, please. I have only listened to a few podcasts but have stuck to those few for a few years and seldom explore much else. I listen to MBMBAM, which I enjoy, as well some of the McElroy offshoot podcasts. Any and all recommendations would be great, i just want a really funny podcast to binge while i study.
EDIT: Thanks so much for the MANY recommendations everyone! Super excited to try these all out for the first time.
It is done by CBC (and their podcasts are always great. If you haven’t already go and check out Somebody Knows Something).
It is interviews and personal accounts of the First Nations people who lived in and experienced the Canadian Residential Schools and the effects that it has had on them and their parents and how there is a generational legacy of abuse that stems from multiple generations of families forced to live in the schools.
I always use orange hearts in my messages so that whenever I do I remember the thousands of children who were murdered at the hands of these horrible people who ran those schools and in remembrance of those who were left being. I hope that they find the peace that they deserve.
This is tagged as History but it can also fit True Crime. I wasn’t sure what genre to use.
I’m looking for podcasts which investigate into mysterious and interesting subjects.
I listened to “Wind of Change” a while ago and quite liked it. It investigates the roots of a then popular song named “Wind of Change” and claimed that the song was written and given to Scorpions in order to spur on the fall of the Soviet Union.
So I like something along those lines. Investigative podcasts about mysterious subjects.
I’ve been craving a podcast with the feeling of sitting around a campfire with friends telling spooky stories and cracking jokes. Either horror/ghost stories or true crime stories is okay.
Recently I listened to “House In The Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. It isn’t my typical kind of read but what a delightful story to just listen to.
Another book I found wonderful to listen to - “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo Moyes.
The tone of the narrator, the voices, the accents (especially in “The Giver of Stars”) the personality of the characters, just really brought everything to life in a way that made me devour the novels.
I’m going through a really difficult time in my life right now and audiobooks have been a lifesaver, as I can drown myself in a story while getting through daily life at the same time. I usually don’t have time to sit down and read a book anymore so I may be an audiobook convert.
What have been your favorite books where the audiobook version just really brought the story to life?
Could be fiction or non fiction
I just won’t some suggestions for standalone creepy books, any subject, don’t mind some gore or disturbing stuff just not too much.
Since October is approaching I’m in the mood for Halloween books. If there isn’t any classic about witches what is your favorite non classic about witches ?
I’m looking for more books like Outlander, Kindred, and Doomsday Book where you get to experience a historical era from a more modern character’s perspective.
Edit: Wow! Thank you all for so many suggestions and my impossibly long tbr. I can’t wait to get started on some of these.
I just got done reading Jurassic Park the lost world so i have finished the dynamic duo of the novels. I really loved reading both as i finished one book in 5 days. I even understood the sciency stuff (like how the raptors lacked parental hood and that’s why they were like brutish savages in the 2nd book). I really want to read more science fiction so please suggest me more so i can get them from the library.
i really need some psychological games with a good twist, story or whatever. i want it to be captivating. idc about the price, i’d prefer if it was in the psychological horror genre or something similar, since that is my fav genre ig.
i played stuff like OMORI (best game ever), DDLC, etc. but also some 3d games that completely destroyed me and i just need MOREEEEEEEE
does anyone have any recommendations? :D
Looking for games that’ll leave me depressed by the time I finish them because I just experienced something that I can never experience again. Games with amazing worlds. The kind of game that all you can think about when your not playing, is playing it. I won’t settle for games that are just “good” give me the best gaming has to offer. Preferably ones with amazing soundtracks. Some examples: -Elden Ring -Witcher 3 -Bloodborne -BOTW -Bioshock -Persona 5 -Outer Wilds -Fallout New Vegas -Nier Automata -Shadow of the Colossus
Games that I’ve heard are masterpieces that I haven’t played yet -Red Dead 2 -Super Mario Odyssey -Metal Gear V
Hello,
I had seen a lot of posts like this but still did not find what I am looking for. I suppose I am growing older and cannot enjoy games as I used to. Been a gamer for a long time now and had seen a lot of tricks of engagement. I would love to get into a game, which is increasingly complex but its difficulty lies in more than probability count, trial and error or calculating the best way. Some devs add grind to progress, which can be satisfying but is not what I am looking for.
Besides Dwarf Fortress and fly emulators, any suggestions?
EDIT. Thank you all for the suggestions. Be sure to read the comments before stating your game! After reading everything and analyzing the games, I think I had understood the general direction of video games that I would love to play. Something tied between waging the probability choices of life simulators, solving math issues of factorio and psychological/philosophical debate of choice games. Something that would touch you on the inside and …
Sounds very specific, but my reptilian brain floods with dopamine when a game has razor sharp kicks involved. Preferably to the face. Any suggestions?
Okay, here’s the thing. I can watch any horror movie and be just fine. But the moment you hand me a controller and tell me to play through a horror game, I nope out. Something about being that involved in the horror is simply a step too far and my heart rate will soar.
That being said, I adore the Resident Evil franchise and actually watch playthroughs on YouTube (shoutout to MKIceandFire). I love the exploration and puzzle aspects more than the horror itself, and I’ve often wished I could play through their iconic locations with no enemies so I could actually enjoy them (Spencer Mansion, the police station, the Baker Estate, Castle Dimitrescu, etc).
So, are there any games like that? I do like escape room type games and have probably played them all, but they don’t really scratch that itch.
Edit to clarify: I only adore the Resident Evil series as a watcher. I cannot play them, or any other game that will scare the crap out of me. I like RE for the iconic …
Hello!
I am looking for a game where the world is seemingly fine, and then all of the sudden a cataclysmic event happens and you have to defeat the threat/figure out why it happened. Preferably you get to play some of the world before the event happens, and preferably it is a horrible evil.
The exact game I would compare it to would be Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
Genre doesn’t matter all so much
