like they’re really limited in a lot of way but also just so unreliable that i’m struggling to even see the point in using them at all - every iOS update apple brings out changes, but even a few years later shortcuts are still buggy as hell. and most of my existing shortcuts break after these updates and i have go trouble-shoot them all over again to get them back. - ultra simple shortcuts only 1 or 2 actions (like playing a specific playlist in apple music) are totally unusable because it crashes every single time i run it - when i download shortcuts off reddit i get bombarded by annoying privacy notifications for the first few runs, and after a few days the shortcut often stops working entirely and freeze when run
the only point of using a shortcut is to speed up repetitive task. using them feels like more effort than its saving
Even on my favorite pods I can’t stand this shit. It’s like a renaissance of the canned sitcom laughter format of the 90s.
Feels like an episode of Full House when you get an audience titter after Every. Single. Sentence. Hahahaha
I’ve dropped a lot of the true crime podcasts I was devoted to over the years —My Favorite Murder, Small Town Dicks, Big Mad True Crime, Mens Rea, etc.—and primarily listen to things like Ologies, Lovett or Leave it, This is Love, Maintenance Phase and Romancing the Pod and I feel like my mental health has really taken a turn for the better.
I don’t know when this happened. I really don’t know why. But I was wondering if anyone else is turning away from true crime and into other genres of podcasts?
The guys at My Dad Wrote a Porno have just released a little episode with some pretty important news:
All bad porn must come to an end. The podcast will be coming to a close with two finale episodes (Mon 28 Nov & Mon 5 Dec) plus a WORLD EXCLUSIVE interview with Mr Rocky Flintstone (Mon 12 Dec). This show has been an absolute dream to make and has surpassed all of our expectations and we couldn’t have done it without you, the Belinkers. Thank you for everything! Whilst this is the end of the podcast, it is not the end of Belinda. Watch this space. We’ve got plenty to celebrate before we say goodbye so keep your eyes peeled …
Three more episodes of some of the most insane creative writing ever to be written, then read aloud, and then excoriated, by a trio of baffled and bewildered fans.
Personally, MDWAP was a consistent bright spot among my subscriptions, and while I can’t say it was always at the top of my ‘must listen pile’, every episode was a riotous time. …
I listen to podcasts during most of my workweek, and watch a lot of youtube at home. The amount of BetterHelp ads I encounter throughout my week is exhausting. How do they do it?
I follow Leah Remini on Twitter and she’s been tweeting about the disappearance of Shelly Miscavige. Can anyone recommend a good podcast that covers this topic?
IIRC one of them was the cleaner, and I think the episodes were named after their roles. I think the cleaner had a Boston accent?
I think it was presented in the form of interviews with the crew mates (or maybe just the cleaner?) held after the ship arrived at it’s destination.
Any help is greatly appreciated
What book(s) had you gripped from start to finish? (Any genre)
Please leave your opinions WITHOUT SPOILERS PLEASE
What comes to mind is Orwell’s 1984 and Handmaid’s Tale for sure, but any suggestions would be great
I need a book that leaves me shocked. Nothing gory, gore doesn’t do it. Nothing sexual. I need a book that describes something. Don’t know how to describe, simply a book that has a black and white feel to it, literal emptiness. It can have a hint of unsettling sadness as well. Something Psychological would be great.
Anyone got a suggestion? Sorry if this is too many criteria.
As advertised, I am looking for a book that might help steer my brother, who has been getting too interested in far-right media/figures/etc., back into a more kind and less hateful direction. I think it would need to be subtle (I once tried to convince him to read “White Fragility” and it didn’t go very well) so he doesn’t just write it off without even cracking the cover. I don’t know if that’s too much to ask, or if such a book exists, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Edit: wow, I was not expecting so many responses!! I really appreciate everyone’s help! If I can’t reply to you directly, I greatly appreciate your suggestion! 😊
Belated Edit 2: for the folks coming in to comment that he’s allowed to think differently and can be conservative if he wants, I completely agree! If he wants to be conservative, that’s fine with me. I am specifically concerned about far-right ideology, which is very different from traditional conservatism. There …
My nephew wants to start reading. I’m going to get him a copy of the book that got me hooked on reading at his age (The Secret Path by Christopher Pike), but I’m curious if you have any recommendations that younger kids you know really enjoyed. I’d kicked around the idea of The Hobbit, but I think it may still be a little too old for him.
Eta: he’s really into video games and motorsports. He just got a dirt bike for his birthday last weekend and he wants to join a baseball team in the spring. I’m not really sure what he watches aside from things on YouTube (lots of let’s plays and weird unboxing vids last I knew). Sorry, should have added that before!
Edit #2: Thank you all so much for all of your wonderful recommendations! I’ve got some great ideas. The people have spoken and I’m definitely getting him the first books in the Percy Jackson/Harry Potter series (with the rest to follow if/when he enjoys them), as well as several others …
Any recommendation for a game that play like an MMORPG? I like Ragnarok Online but the current iterations are heck abusive. So any recommendation on the PS4/5/Switch would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Basically the title, I like charisma stats in games like fallout but they always seem pretty mediocre. What are some games where charisma stat really matters and changes the game in interesting ways?
I thoroughly enjoy games like My Time at Portia, Coral Island, Dinkum and Stardew Valley but do not like being pressured to get things done by a certain time. I am looking for similar games, but where I can farm, craft and gather resources at my own pace.
Uk games like papers please, Westport, some random ww2 plane game. I felt tht these types of games somewhat connect with me, especially if they hv an indie touch to it. Any other suggestions?
Lately I’ve been playing a lot of indie titles that try to emulate the aesthetic of PS1/N64 games, not only in graphics but also in “feel”. I love these games because the gameplay can be relatively simple, maybe purposefully restricted by the developers, and I find them a lot easier to digest this way. It also helps that retro-3D graphics tend to run great on the Steam Deck.
I can only list them as a comparison to another kind of game, because to me what stands out is they’re their own spin on an established game. The inspiration is clear which separates it.
Here’s a few I’ve played:
And a few more I’ve found but haven’t yet played:
