This takes a few steps, from setting up the wallpapers, to adding the shortcut, and creating an automation, but if anyone is interested, I’ll post the links and instructions!
I just started playing around with shortcuts today. Was just wondering what everyone’s “must haves” are.
I find that this happens to me often when I come across a problem or complex task at work, I manage inventory of over 1200 vehicles being parted out at a junkyard.
I think of a way to implement a shortcut then compile different scenarios in my head. It’s almost like a robotic way of thinking but I find it comforting.
Thank you guys for making my reddit journey ends on a high note by end of the year. This sub is so active and resourceful. I wish I can find more subs like this so I can spend more time for quality social content instead of dunking my brain in social media.
If you have any favorite sub that you feel is constructive and resourceful like this, I am all ears :)
Because it’s either too weird or so specific to your interests no one in your life would get it?
I got all the suggestions I needed and more. It’s the most friendly subreddit imo. Thank you so much. Time to go.
Looking for something to listen to while I’m at the gym since I got bored listening to music. I’m looking for podcasts that are funny but also sorta educational. I’ve been interested in pop culture and politics in the past, but open to any subject matter.
Loved Winds of Change by Patrick Radden Keefe, and I want moreeee
This podcast has been just as good as Hunting Warhead. Its absolutely vile but amazing to hear that these monsters are all getting caught. For those unaware it follows an Australian computer crime unit as they take down one of the most evil darknet sites I’ve ever heard of
Hi all! Almost a year ago, I made a post on here asking for some book recommendations that might be good for an adult who struggles with reading. I want to say thank you so much for the tremendous amount of responses I received. They were all so kind and helpful to me. There was a lot of folks who asked if I could circle back to update on how my reading journey is going. So here’s the update!
I read several books this year! More than I’ve ever finished in my entire life. One of them I even finished in only a few days! I’ve dabbled in different styles & stuff to see what I like and what feels manageable. I’ve had good luck with some memoirs or similar kinds of biographical stories. I’ve had great luck with Steinbeck, as was recommended in several comments, and have gone for a few of his shorter novels. I’ve tried reading and listening to books in all the ways that were suggested and have found them all helpful in one way or another.
My biggest achievement was reading Cold Mountain …
My 17 year old niece is a literal genius, but has no self esteem whatsoever. Not low self-esteem - like none at all. It’s heartbreaking. She’s kind, funny, beautiful and interesting to talk to. But her self-talk is brutal. She doesn’t think she has any worth or value. It’s crazy. Her immediate family is great and really trying to help build her up.
She reads and is an intellectual. She’s always been very cerebral. Are there any books I can give her that will help her build self-esteem/self-worth/confidence without being so obvious “I’m a self help book about being confident and you can too!”
Fictional - non-fiction …. Whatever. I’m open to recommendations outside the box.
Edit 1: therapy - yes she could benefit from therapy, but she’s not my kid. I don’t live in the household or even in the same state. It’s not my call. I can and will make the suggestion to her parents. But it’s up to them and her …
Suggest me 2 books. One you thought was great and other that you thought was trash. Don’t tell which one is which.
Edit:- Stop commenting twilight.. stop..pls stop
In The Prestige film, for example, >!the story starts as a historical fiction drama with a hint of a murder mystery to much later turn out to have some strong sci-fi elements.!<
This kind of twist can be outrageous sometimes, but, if done properly, it can make the story much more intriguing.
It doesn’t have to be like this exactly but I would really like to see something of the sort. If possible, recommend the most emotional, epic finished books (preferably fantasy/sci-fi). If the ones you are thinking of are not but you think they are worth a watch, send them anyway. Thanks.
EDIT: Also, In Attack on Titan, >!for nearly 3 seasons it was pretty much a post-apocalyptic zombie dystopia with some great-government-conspiracy mystery sprinkled into it. However, by the fourth season, it transforms into a historical-fantasy-fascist-dystopia-war story.!<
really interested in increasing my knowledge about Norse myths and tales and would love a good book. Thank you
edit: there are too much comments to get back to, so thank you everyone for suggestions
I am always trying to read more female authors. I love Atwood and recently discovered Octavia Butler. This year I have enjoyed Otessa Mosfegh and even spent a month reading only women, yet somehow my male authors far outweighs those read by females. This year some highlights were Lisa Taddeo’s Animal and a number of memoirs including Carmen Machado and Hillary Mantell. I’ve read the Emily St John Mandells, too. A recent highlight was Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchior. Edit: great recommendations for Secret History by Tartt, which I loved.
I do NOT like the Colleen hoover, V E schwab type of books. I hated Crawdads and Seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
I tend to like books that are quite literary, dark, cryptic stories or speculative fiction. I’m okay with classics, but I strongly dislike fantasy.
Whatcha got for me? 😛
Think a game like Skyrim. Where some enemies are really challenging but by level 30+ you’re usually so strong most enemies in the game can’t hold a candle to you. Ideally want a fantasy/medieval type game, but am open to all genres
Edit: souls like games still require me to get good. I want a game that I can sort of turn off my Brain and kill enemies that we’re giving me a hard time before
Welcome to the Hidden Gem thread - Im a big fan of indie games, and always look for under-reviewed games that deserve a second life. This table is all automated based on the list of games I maintain, so let me know if theres more info that would be good to see in it.
It now features a neat Table that can be filtered and sorted in all sorts of ways to help with discoverability (since markdown tables are not good for that).
TL:DR - Out of the 85 games on the Master List there are:
1 new games on the list
71 on sale
50 games over 50% off
46 games with a review score of 90% or Higher
9 games with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews
8 early access games
21 Steam Deck Verified games
NEW GAMES SINCE LAST THREAD Some may not be on sale, but they’re here for visibility
Name | Description | Genre | Released | Positive Review % | Total Reviews | Discount | Price | Early Access | Deck Verification |

But there’s something else: i’d prefer they’re either a metroidvania or a top down game. I’m not a big fan of FPS games.
The more immersive the better. I know I’m being vague but I’m open to any suggestions so that’s the point. Cheers.
Looking for a game that allows you to really make a unique character, in terms of facial features and body type. What’s the most advanced thing on the market right now? Prefer PC.
