Hi everyone, Mike Beasley here. You may remember me as the guy who created UpdateKit, the very first shortcut updater, and RoutinePub, the very first shortcut for publishing your other shortcuts to RoutineHub.
Well, as you might have guessed from the title of this post, I’m back with another new “very first” for the Shortcuts community.
Today I’m pleased to announce the public release of Switchblade, the first self-hosted shortcut distribution platform. You can use this software to host shortcuts on your own domain, distribute updates, and more.
This is a completely new piece of software, but parts of it (like the database structure) are based on the personal API I’ve used to host my own shortcuts for years now (and key lessons I learned along the way while building that back end).
I’ve had some limited success making shortcuts, but even what seems like it should be some of the simplest stuff (e.g., get the contents of this folder, put them in that folder) are more often than not inundated with unexplained errors.
“couldn’t run Save File, the runner quit unexpectedly”
“Cannot communicate with a helper application”
Sometimes unexplained errors happen in a shortcut with literally only one action. “Get folder contents” is the one that’s killing me right now. Sometimes the error goes away when it’s run again, or if the exact same sequence of actions is created in a new shortcut. Sometimes the error goes away when you move actions around and then put them back where they were. Sometimes errors happen on one device, and then a different device offers a permissions request, which granting fixes the error on another device. Sometimes it’s the other way around, running on one device inexplicably might …
My wife asked me if there were any apps to download reels from Instagram. I’ve searched the app store and found that all apps are requiring a subscription, or showing ads, so I made a very simple shortcut using 3rd-party API.
Just install it, open the reels page, press share and select “Download reels”. When the process finishes, the video will be in your gallery.
UPD: Shortcut was updated to support downloading stories
I don’t enjoy visual porn and recently discovered how easy it was for me to enjoy myself just by listening to a man’s voice talking dirty to me.
I wonder if there are any podcasts perhaps on Spotify (or anywhere free) that directly talk to their listeners. I found one called knightly pleasures which is pretty close to what I’m looking for but the accent (from the US) and voice is too close to a friend of mine and it’s just weird for me. So just before I give up and call myself too difficult to please, I thought I’d try asking here.
Tldr: looking for podcast recommendations voiced by a man preferably from the UK (not necessary) that talks dirty to its listeners. Oh god the tldr is embarrassing.
I understand that it’s a free (lengthwise) format, but some of the stuff recently like Adam Buxton or Hubermanlab is getting on for two hours.
This is crazy, this is entering into Avatar/The Irishman territory!
Do you think this is good? Should people either edit or split it out?
Hi, I am looking for funny fiction podcasts. Enjoy Dear Bastard & King Falls AM. what other good ones are out there?
Anyone else like this one? I’m looking for more like it, they’re so riveting! Survival, and living through catastrophes, put your recommendations here please.
General humor somewhat a bit political incorrect ,chaotic levels of energy. General topics search as sci fi ,fantasy, lore ,and anime/cartoons. It doesn’t have to be this topics.
Hi, I’m looking for a casual/easy going French podcast not necessarily for learning purposes, just hearing the language in a natural way. I’ve learned french for 12 years in public school, but I forgot a lot, but I would like to get back to it,because we are planning to go to Paris in march.
Thank you if you have some recommendations.
I want to get into fantasy genre. But it seems like every adult fantasy has rape and sexual violence or threat of it for female characters. Or female characters are second class citizen. Regardless of whether it’s a male or female writer. I want to read fantasy to escape. Not to be reminded of a real threat that exists for me in real world or many ways society reminds me I am “less than”.
I recently read Red Sister and its sequel by Mark Lawrence and I was blown away by how not a single female characters are ever threatened with sexual violence. There’s still torture, injustice, violence, unfairness, brutal societal norms. Yet it’s all done without an added burden of rape placed only on female characters. Everyone suffers the same.
Feels like I can avoid this with YA fantasy, but I have read a lot of those. Please let me know if there are others.
Edit: thank you for all the recommendation, folks. I was not expecting so many. Keep them coming.
One comment here reminded me another …
Hey guys. I’ve been struggling a lot mentally lately with intrusive thoughts, so I want to pick up a few books to distract myself. I want something really comforting and funny, that doesn’t have any serious topics, especially no grief or anything like that.
I’d prefer something funny, romance is fine but not a must, I’m fine with some drama/arguments for entertainment. Just something to get my mind off of things
Edit: Something young adult fiction would be preferred. Thank you!
Hi everyone, i was hoping someone might be able to suggest some interesting coffee table books for me?
Ideally i’m looking for physically beautiful looking ones - be it just the cover or ideally throughout, but based on quirky, random or controversial topics?
Currently i’ve only got a few that i think fit into the above categories, but they’re as follows:
Dictators homes
Soviet Bus Stops
Heavenly bodies, Cult Treasures and Spectacular Saints from the Catacombs
Inside North Korea
Hell in Japanese Art
Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated!
Anything to help me deal with that or give me another perspective. Thanks in advance
Hi everyone.
Sorry for the late update. As you all have probably realized, I have not been posting comment replies linking to Goodreads anymore. This is definitely not my choice (I have been happily paying the small monthly cost to keep the bot running and would have continued to do so indefinitely), but rather a result of Goodreads finally revoking my API key.
I don’t think I have ever mentioned this, but I created this bot after having been laid off from my job in 2020. I needed something to keep my mind off of things while I searched for another one and I thought combining two things I enjoy (reading and Reddit) would make for a fun project. To be honest, I can’t believe how much usage the bot got and how long that usage has lasted. Anyone who starts a project knows that one of the biggest hurdles is finding users to actually use and enjoy it. I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to create a project that had an (albeit, very tiny) impact on some people’s …
Currently at my self-help grindset and would like suggestions that actually helped you improve in something.(doesn’t matter what it was)
I currently own/read: Atomic Habits, The subtle art of not giving a f, 12 rules for life, Beyond Order, how to make friends and influence people and how to stop worrying and start living. So don’t recommend me these books lol
She passed very suddenly a few days ago and I’m looking for games to relax/distract and just kinda phase out to.
I have steam and ps5 so platform shouldn’t be a problem.
Things like Stardew and Vampire Survivors have helped so far. Either games with good checklist like activities to work through or just chill worlds would be great.
Some kind of rpg/tactics might be good. I looked at tactics ogre but it’s a bit too expensive.
Edit - so overwhelmed by all the responses. Thank you everyone.
Thank you 🫠
I was blown away by the trailer for Fallout New Vegas when I was a teenager, especially after playing Fallout 3. After engaging in the PS3 version of the same. It was incredible. Didn’t care; it was entertaining to run around the map fighting monsters despite the pretty awful but amusing voice acting and language.
Cinematic trailer for Warpath. Without knowing what game it was for, I thought it was a fairly decent and technically impressive piece of work. It somehow reminds me of the movie trailer for Warthunder from more than five years ago. They put a lot of effort into creating a cool-looking video, but it doesn’t actually express much of the gameplay of the game they’re promoting.
E3 2011 gameplay trailer/demo for Bioshock Infinite. After seeing the video and playing the game, I found that while the story had been significantly changed, the majority of the trailer’s scenes had been preserved. Still a great game to play to this day.
Basically, I’m in a situation where I want to play something new, something I haven’t tried out yet so I’m looking forward for some recommendations but let’s have a bit of fun with it
As the title said, sell me on a game with only one sentence.
Any genre, platform, type of game goes, if you think you can make a game sound interesting with only one sentence, comment here !
I’m interested in seeing what kind of games people have a love hate relationship with. For me it’s Biomutant, the games dull, confusing and repetitive, but it’s been a nice “sit down for an hour and occupy my time” type game for me. Plus I enjoy the weapon crafting aspect just enough to keep me looting. But it would never be a game I recommend someone else spend their time on.
(Hard mode: no mmo’s or moba’s)
Pretty much as the tittle says.
I eally like the idea and feeling of having pets/monsters/animals to help me (if i was the one who tame them even better).
The only example of games i have played and have something like this are:
MMORPG: WOW (World of warcraft) and “Guild wars 2” (Both games have a “Hunter” class in which you have a pet to help you
Shooter: Borderlands 3 playing with “Fl4k” (You can’t tame wild animals but you can choose one of 3 beast to help you)
Turn based rpg: Pokemon (I don’t think i need to explain this)
Hello everyone,
Can you suggest me a game with really satisfying combat, regardless of the story I just want to smash beasts
Thanks
