OpenAI has released their official ChatGPT API so I updated my shortcut to support the new API.
Responses come back noticeably faster. The ChatGPT API’s responses are more regulated though with the API being more restrictive with the responses it’s willing to provide. This endpoint is also way cheaper so it’s much better suited for regular use.
The shortcuts supports continued conversation so it’ll keep the conversation going without needing to be reinvoked, and it’ll remember the context of the conversation.
I’ve found that the old shortcut can be better for more freeform topics while ChatGPT might just try avoiding the question so you can still get the old version of the shortcut on my site.
Update:Note that you’ll need an API key from https://platform.openai.com/account/api-keys, and some credits in your account. The cost for a request is 0.2 cent for ~4000 characters of text. You can get $18 worth of credits when you sign up and those …
Hi, I wanted to share something that I made that allows for full voice conversations with ChatGPT through Siri on any topic, which is great for quick questions and follow-ups.
I used Alex Kolchinski’s original shortcut (https://alexkolchinski.com/2023/03/01/how-to-talk-to-chatgpt-through-siri/) as a base, so full credit to him, I’ve just made developments to allow for natural and dynamic conversations where ChatGPT will remember your conversation chain until the shortcut ends.
Please note that an OpenAI API key is required to use this, however the new API is apparently 10x cheaper and much more fast so the cost to use this shouldn’t be very much at all.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add the shortcut to your iPhone, iPad or Mac using the link provided below
Upon adding the shortcut, you will be prompted to enter your country (so the responses can be localised to your currency, date/time formats, and measurements) as well as your OpenAI API key
Once added, this can be triggered by saying “Hey …
I just found this podcast last week and I’m loving it. It’s hosted by Peter Shamshiri (a lawyer) and Michael Hobbes (a journalist)
What it’s about:
The most harmful books of our generation.
The first episode they picked apart some sections of the famous book Freakonomics. Now, I l personally loved that book so I felt a little defensive (granted, I read it when I was 16) but they not only made some great points but they are hilarious while doing it
The episode that made me love this show was when they did “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” this ep. had me in stitches. Again, great points but absolutely fun and enjoyable to listen to.
Other books they tore apart:
Outliers by Malcolm Galdwell (again, read as a teen and loved it)
The Game by Neil Strauss (the book that popularized “negging”)
The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes (everyone knows this one, right?)
And more
Even if you love the books and might feel defensive like did, I still recommend it. There’s insight, there’s …
I think a lot of us started out really not getting the whole podcast thing, until one finally clicked. What was it for you?
Pls provide some detail about the content of the podcast, and why you like it if you can!
So, I think I’m looking for a bit of a content shake-up. I’m growing conscious of how many of the podcasts (and assorted internet content, to be honest) I listen to at the moment that are based around debunking bad ideas and the people who espouse them. Early in the pod journey I listened to a lot of narrative storytelling and I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Knowledge Fight, QAA and BTB, and I think they’re doing great things, but I’m keen to capture more of the feeling I get from a Heavyweight, an Off-Menu or a This American Life. I’m absolutely open to stuff that’s challenging and political, but I think I specifically need a bit of a break from ‘the worst opinions, debunked’ for a bit because, after a while, if you listen to enough hours of KF, you’re kind of de facto listening to hours of Inforwars at the gym lol.
What pods have sparked some joy or some exploration/learning for you recently?
“The online counseling service BetterHelp has agreed to return $7.8 million to customers to settle with the Federal Trade Commission for sharing with companies including Facebook and Snapchat health data it had promised to keep private.”
Not shocking a for-profit tech company would do this to vulnerable users, but yuck.
Any suggestions? I’ve listened to the Paddlefish Caviar Heist, Stuff the British Stole, and that’s it. My murder shows include Morbid, Proof, In the Dark, Unraveled, Bear Brooks, In Your Own Backyard, Serial Killing. And I listen to tons of history podcasts so don’t include any of those in your suggestions please.
I have an hour drive to work. I start listening to a podcast when I start my drive. One episode generally lasts my entire drive. But everyday when I get to a certain spot on the last little stretch of highway left it’s skips backwards, forwards, or stops all together. Every single time. At the same exit sign. Without fail. What is going on? Why the same spot every-time? It’s like it hits interference or something that messes with it.
Looking for a book that is not difficult to read which could help a person struggling with depression that sometimes wishes he would not be there anymore and that life just is not worth the effort.
Thanks.
EDIT: Thank you everyone, will check out all suggestions. To clarify an alleviate some concerns, I am not suicidal. I really just argue with myself if all of this work and effort is worth it but thanks
I hail from a violent and the most toxic family. Now, I have gone out I find the trauma catching up with me. I have serious trust issues, 0 risk-taking behavior and I cannot form friends and relationships due to PTSD.
Suggest me a book to recognize and eliminate the poison that runs in my psyche, As back as I remember I have been beaten up for mere suggesting, yelled at literally everything, shamed at many public events to laugh at, and even told to kill myself.
This is all done by my beloved parents, but sometimes they love me very much and other times they become monsters which have confused my brain to the point that whenever some person shows any affection to me I have literal panic attacks.
I cannot afford therapy so please suggest to me written or video material, I don’t wanna feel afraid anymore.
Sorry for the trauma dumping.
I have a family member spending a couple months in county jail for a mistake she made and I wanted to send her some books to read. She has had a really tough upbringing and struggles a lot with her self esteem and loving herself in general. I would like to send her something that I hope will be influential, inspiring, and thought provoking.
The genre doesn’t really matter, but the language has to be easy to understand/read and not riddled too much with flowery language or overly complex ideas.
Thank you all so much!
EDIT: I’m so overwhelmed by the amount of suggestions I’ve received!! Thank you to everyone who has commented and for those who plan on leaving one. I’ve been so heartbroken over this matter but feel immensely comforted at the thought of her finding her own comfort in books. I’m going through all the suggestions, thank you all!!
Title. I hate the fact that a lot of fantasy books are full of such things to the point that is unnecessary and gross. Thank you in advance! Edit: wow, I did not expect such a huge feedback from you guys, especially that my other posts went unanswered; I cant answer to all of you, but I just want to show you my gratitude and just say a loud thanks ♥️
My therapist assigned me this task. Most online searches I’ve done the results don’t seem to apply to me or seem a good fit.
Looking for stories like the movies MEMENTO or TRUMAN SHOW, where the main character slowly realizes that there’s a deeper truth that everyone knows except them. Can you help me out?
Can someone recommend me a game where you aren’t the chosen one, the hero who save the world but either someone who know the hero or a random whose destiny isn’t carved into stone ? When i say a hero, it can even be someone like shepard in Mass Effect, someone who is know to be unique and important, or like the heroes in Dragon Quest games who have to save the world because it’s their destiny. One of the only game that come in my mind when i search this type of game is Tales Of Berseria where tou litteraly are the opposite.
I’ve just played Far: Lone Sails and its sequel Far: Changing Tides. In the first you control a landship (like a weird offroad steam locomotive), in the second an actual ship. There are several systems around the ship that you have to control and keep in good shape, you have to explore for fuel and collect it so you can run the steam engine when the wind isn’t strong enough to push the sails, and the player gets attached to the ship since it’s where they spend most of the time - so when it gets damaged you have extra motivation to fix it and after a while it starts feeling like your home. This goes double for Changing Tides, since at some point you become able to submerge the ship and then it really feels like your safe space.
Unfortunately both Far games are pretty short and have left me wanting more.
Any titles you can think of that have even vaguely similar gameplay? I don’t need these to be planetbound vehicles - spaceships are fine - but I am looking …
What I am looking for is kinda weird, but it is to help me with my ADHD while watching tv. I play exclusively on PC.
Games that have worked for me in the past. Civ 5⁄6, Particle Fleet, Creeper World, Power Wash Simulator, Fallout Shelter (at least for the first few days of building the base), Viscera Clean Up Detail.
What would be optimal would be something that once you have become accustomed to the game, there is almost no reading. Mouse only play would be optimal. Hours of replay or user made maps. Must be single player so I can get distracted and no one else is dependent on me. No intense focus levels, so one can play at their own pace. Clear set goals (no just sandbox). Able to be played when muted for all sound.
I know this is a weird list of features, but I am a weird guy. Games that do not work for one reason or another: Lawn Mower Simulator, Stardew Valley, RTS games.
Thanks in advance.
I’m not interested in those like top down build a vehicle to destroy something games. I’m thinking more like red faction Guerilla, where it’s a shooter with great destruction
I feel like a pathetic loser and want to be in games where a drunken slob like Harry Du Bois or a man-child like Travis Touchdown from the first game can accomplish so something.
I want characters with major personality flaws somehow make it through the day.
Before anyone asks, I’m fine. Just can’t do anything right for a while.
