Hi guys, today I bring you one more layer of iOS security!
With iOS 16.4, apple brought the possibility of locking the screen using shortcuts, so I made an automation that locks the screen when Airplane Mode is turned ON.
I think this is useful in case someone steals your phone unlocked. What the robber will do first is turn the Airplane Mode ON. So this is one more security layer!
Please note that if they know your PIN, this automation does not protect you.

I previously posted a shortcut named “Dynamic Summary” , inspired by u/Kangaroo3 ‘s brilliant idea to have a dynamic, apple looking summary.
I have since updated the shortcut to now:
Change background colour to black if you are in dark mode, and white in light mode
Reminders and events boxes expand and contract based on the amount of reminders or events
When the “Sleep” focus mode is turned on the following happens:
Gradients become less vibrant & change colour to a calming purple
The title changes to “Bedtime Summary”
The titles of the cards change to “Tonight’s Weather” , “Tonight’s Events” & reminders change to “Before Bed”
Added comments to the shortcut so people can understand it better and change things if they want to, for easier customisation
Is it the same answer as every time? SeCuRiTy CoNcErNs?
My screen wakes up my gf so I made a bedtime automation that lowers the white point.
I’m using increased contrast and XXXL text for better readability.
After seeing S-GPT I got really interested in the power of shortcuts and what I could do with it. I subscribe to get the chat GPT API key and it seems to work great, however, to make it functional I had to select “allow” to a lot of prompts that had little to no description about it.
I tried check the commands, but there are probably a lot of books smaller than its instructions, and even by reading it, most of it is difficult to understand since I have zero background in development.
My question is, how safe am I in running it? I believe the creator is a well known figure but what happens if he’s hacked and someone changes the shortcut? (does it update automatically after I installed the first version?).
Is there a shortcut that I could run via a Home Screen shortcut that would directly open my Shopping List from within my Reminders app? Every time I have tried to create one all it does is open up Reminders.
It could be a ghost story, true crime, or maybe something that scares you and not many others. Whatever it is, what episode would you recommend that absolutely freaked you out? Any podcasts welcome :)
Hi r/podcasts! We’re Jason Moon (Bear Brook’s award-winning reporter/host) and Rebecca Lavoie (podcast director at New Hampshire Public Radio), and we’re here to answer your questions about the Bear Brook podcast, Jason’s investigation, the state of true crime, and more.
We’ll be answering your questions today from 12pm (noon) ET to 1pm ET. Ask us anything!
A little about Bear Brook: It’s been nearly five years since the series debut of Bear Brook, which has garnered more than 24 million downloads. Season 1, about the case that changed how murders are investigated, led to the identification of multiple victims. Earlier this year, the team came back with Bear Brook Season 2: A True Crime Story to explore an even more complex case that many believe involved a wrongful conviction.
The new season centers on the 1988 murder of Sharon Johnson that resulted in a conviction for 19-year-old Jason Carroll. The only evidence? His own taped confession, which he claims was the result of coercion …
Can people recommend any interesting independent podcasts on any subject whatsoever.
I’m tired of looking through ‘discover’ feeds and just seeing show after show of corporate/advertiser funded content.
I’d love to work through a list of passion projects, with a bit of originality.
Please share anything that comes to mind.
Edit: This is amazing, thank you! I’m going to listen to all of these.
I am a rather anxious bean, and I need to improve my mental hygiene. I’m looking for a good, calm podcast to practice daily meditations or just better mental health habits. I really enjoy On Being, to give a sense of the vibe I like. I’m not looking for any long interviews, just a quick 10-15 episode I can listen to in the morning/on my way to work, etc. Something to get the mind right! (I’d also be okay with funny ones, too!)
Thank you so much!
I’m searching for a podcast that teaches you about things that you should know- history, basic “common” knowledge, fun facts, the future, language learning, biology, geography, news on society- think; “If school subjects were made into a podcast”
If that’s too specific I’m looking for a podcast that is really useful, where you can learn about multiple topics that can be useful in your day to day. I need something I can listen to when I’m doing other stuff so not too complicated, but hard enough where I’m still learning something new and interesting.
I’m not too interested in in-depth technology and sports fyi
Emphasis on the why. Make it as interesting or as boring as you want :-)
Like title says. Recently I was scrolling through my library options and borrowed The Book of Joy by Dalai Llama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Abrams. I knew nothing about this book and borrowed it on a whim since it was available and I needed a new book. It has had a lasting impact on me and I’m so glad I found it.
What books did you really enjoy without knowing much about it before reading? Both fiction and nonfiction suggestions welcome!
Like the title says I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. I started chemo this past week. Just before diagnosis I was still nursing my 22-month-old and we’ve since had to stop for obvious reasons. It’s a hard transition for her but she seems to understand when I say that my boob is sick and I need to see the doctor. I’d like to find some children’s books about breast cancer or a parent or loved one with cancer to help my daughter process all of these changes and emotions, and to reassure her if possible. Has anyone been through a similar situation? Any recommendations? Fwiw her favorite books right now are If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson and Making Faces.
The goal is to build in silence
I’ve made it through my whole “to read” list and I need some new recommendations! I prefer contemporary thrillers with plots that are unique.Recently finished and loved The Silent Patient, Evelyn Hugo, the Last Thing He told me. I enjoy psych thrillers, even if they’re dark, but NOT CREEPY OR SCARY, with twists that are well written.
Not a fan of Verity/Local Woman Missing/ Nine perfect strangers/ romance, if that helps!
Thanks!
Howdy! Before this rubs anyone the wrong way, I’m a black woman, I’m just tired of the only books with black female leads being about racism or colorism or slavery etc.
I just want a book with a black woman as the lead, who has a personality beyond “strong, independent black woman” who actually gets a happy ending. I’ve had the legendborn series recommended to me, but it’s been checked out of my library for a while. I’d love for it to be a fantasy romance, but unfortunately I feel like that’s asking for too much lol.
Thanks!
Npcs/enemies doesn’t scale with your level. Shops don’t have gear to match your level or playstyle. You are not special and have to work your way to get strong.
Preferably a game that’s decently difficult. I’m thinking something like you have an underground bunker in a post-apocolype world and you need to gear up and make the dangerous journey above ground repeatedly to both explore the world and gather supplies and/or resources.
Edit: I came back to check on this after one day and had more than 100 notifications. Thanks for all of the responses! I’m going through them now.
Hi! I got a $20 steam gift card for Easter and I’m trying to find a fun game I could buy that would consume me for many hours. I love games that have tons of content/ no end game that I could play forever. Please help me out!
Tried to play Borderlands, but felt like a villain slaughtering people no worse than me. Tried to play Halo, but it made jokes I found distasteful, especially against the grunts (“Ha, look at this idiot alien who was conscripted to fight against his will, he died alone and afraid in a funny way!”). Tried to play a few others, but they all tried to make the violence “cool” instead of “tragic necessity,” which is how I view it.
My problem is that I love the gameplay of FPS games. They really get me pumping, getting me thinking fast and testing my reflexes. But I get horribly turned off by games that make me into the bad guy (at least without admitting that I’m doing bad guy stuff).
One game I liked was Signal from Tolva; another fun FPS, but the baddies were robots. It was pretty short, though, and kinda light on the story. I liked the gameplay of Titanfall 2, and thankfully it at least gave me a serious reason to be killing soldiers like me …
I feel like I never have enough time to do what I need playing these games, I’d like a little more time to explore and chat with people. Any suggestions?
I played PWS last year and loved it. Who would have thought they’d put a story in a game like that, let alone one as charming as that.
Anyway, one of the best things about the game was how everything revolves around busy work that’s satisfying to do but doesn’t demand much attention. That let me listen to and discover tons of new music while making everything shiny xD.
Is there anything else like that out there? I’ve already played House Flipper before, and it kinda has the same vibe. Doesn’t need to be a simulator / construction game, but goals to fulfill and upgrades to stride for would be nice.
