I am open to any genre but looking for podcasts that do deep dives into exploring a certain topic. I want to learn something, genuinely feel smarter, and know more about the world.
Open to anything like world cultures, history, sociology, different inventions, misconceptions, scientific research, Outerspace, psychology, nature etc.
Only thing I’m not interested in is Horror or True crime.
EDIT: I cannot reply to everyone but you guys are AMAZING! I’m reading all the suggestions and followed so many right now. So excited!!
I’m curious about this.
What’s the biggest reason you stop listening to a podcast?
Is it boring conversations, too many ads, bad audio quality, episodes being too long, or something else?
For me, a podcast can have a great topic, but if the conversation feels forced, I’ll probably stop listening.
What about you?
Alice isn’t dead and don’t tell alice 👑
(10⁄10) Probably the most famous one and best one , story of truck driver finding her wife , don’t go for the summary , the atmosphere and the writing and effects are the best , especially the walkie talkie diary voice notes the mc does
Harvey in hell (9⁄10)
Very mysterious podcast i found with a small town mystery cult detective story and vibe . U will definitely like the desert theme and case . I guess true detective fans will like it .
Blackwood (6.5⁄10)
Not the best story but good enough for commute and mystery
Return home (9⁄10)
Another fun and mystery podcast . 3 friends trying to save the world and finding mystery in their town
Burning rock radio (8⁄10)
Not sure if it should be in this list but there you go , very nice for commute or when doing some work . A story about a girl trying to find her missing friend
Leaving corvet (9.5⁄10)
Damm good with plot twists . Just …
I am a MASSIVE horror anthology fan. I love hearing short stories from an author that absolutely shake me to my core. There is nothing like it.
Lately, I have been in a slump. I’ve been listening to some other podcasts, but they just don’t do it for me.
I so not want a podcast that is an overarching story. Magnus Archives, I can live with. I just am not entertained by most of them. If you have truly scary ones, throw them at me. I have listened to season 1 if The White Vault, about 30 episodes of Malignant, season 1(?) of Video Palace, season 1 of The Black Tapes.
Get me hooked. What are YOUR scariest episodes of a podcast?
Here’s the list of everything I have listened to:
Have listened to every episode:
- Knifepoint Horror: Subscribed to the patreon.
- We’re Not Meant To Know.
- Tonight’s Terror.
- Rule Of Nines.
- Petrified.
Have listened to most/about half of the episodes and open to sleeper hits:
- Goblin Market
- Acephale
Have listened …
I currently work overnights in healthcare, primarily dementia and psych. In between bouts of being told that their vaginas are haunted and that the moon and the sun are the same thing- both utterances made by my co-workers, mind you- I listen to spooky podcasts to pass the time. I’ve been doing this for a while. My well is running dry. Please recommendanything to me that’s scary shit. I’ll list what I’ve heard before:
I’ve been missing the 2016 era of Art Bell on Midnight in the Desert, and of course his long run on Coast-to-Coast AM. I’m looking for something similar.
I’m looking for something that covers all the paranormal junk: UFOs, Bigfoot, Hauntings, Secret Space Programs, Area 51, Human-Alien Hybrids, Cryptids, etc
What I’m not looking for - American Political Stuff, Donald Trump bashing, Donald Trump championing, anything to do with the state of the world, true crime, hosts laughing at the absurdity
I want to get lost in sleepy bullshit about strange stuff from a host that’s open the to topic. 90’s era paranormal and conspiracies.
Thanks in advance!
My 14yr doesn’t like romance she’s more into fantasy /light horror. She has read the Nevermore series by Jessica Townsend ,the Wildwood books ,Harry Potter, Land of stories , hunger games. She wants something a little more mature but not adult.
As the title says, I’m looking for a romance fantasy book where the characters and story has depth. Something that doesn’t feel so YA.
I’m tired of reading books where the dialogue between characters is just absolutely insane. I have never heard two people speak the way that people do in these books. I just finished reading The Serpent and the Wings of Night and this is a prime example of that. I understand there’s a time and place for these sorts of novels but it isn’t doing it for me right now. I want a book with a female protagonist but I don’t want to her be a sort of edgy and annoying pick me girl. I read the ACOTAR series and those were also hard to get through but my favorite was ACOSF because at least Nesta was a developed character.
Just finished Yesteryear and was really disappointed. Based on everything I heard I thought it was a book I would love: topical, historical fiction adjacent, explores feminist themes. However, I found I didn’t enjoy the writing style and wished some of the topics had been explored in more depth.
Any recommendations for books that might fill the void I am experiencing? I have read lots of Kristin Hannah books as well, but am not a fan of the recurring “against all odds” romance sub-plots.
I’m old, so in high school all the girls were passing around VC Andrews’ “Flowers in the Attic” and the occasionally scandalous Sweet Valley High. And I think my brother and his pals were reading Stephen King. IT, Dead Zone. That sort of thing.
I know that teens these days probably aren’t reading much of anything anymore, but I’d like to read some of these non-assigned illicit titles that you might remember from your high school days. Thanks!
I love bears, especially polar bears. Any novels where a bear of any type is featured prominently? Preferred if the bear isn’t killed…
Even if it is just a part of the story. I’m thinking of The Midnight Library, where the MC has a run-in with a polar bear.
Any genre welcome (though I’m not super into romance). Nonfiction as well!
…from one of the daughter’s perspectives.
I want to read a book from the perspective of a child who has grown up in some kind of fabricated, isolated world, maybe a cult, maybe an experiment, similar to the children in Yesteryear. I wish I could read the book from Mary’s perspective. It’s okay if the “reveal” is a spoiler for the book.
Anyone pick up what I’m putting down?
I love cult memoirs, and have read many, but I’m learning towards FICTION right now. Still more than happy to take recommendations for memoirs and nonfiction, tho, I’ll add them to my list.
Books that are coming up in the recommendations I’ve already read:
-A History of Wild Places
-Girl A
-I Who Have Never Known Men
-Our Endless Numbered Days
-Room
-Educated
-Beyond Belief
-The House of My Mother
Are there games where people you rescue or help actually move into your town or base and stick around?
Shopkeepers, companions, someone who just hangs out cooking, anything that makes the place feel more alive as you progress. Bonus points if they interact with each other instead of standing in the same spot forever.
Which games do this best?
Whenever i search for “Chill Games” i get the usual suggestion like Stardew Valley and while i don’t doubt it’s a good game, a lot of the “Chill” games would also not hold my attention. It’s a wierd scenario i’m in
90% of the games in my library are RPGs but right now i’m basically burned out on RPGs and my usual “Break from RPG games” like Elden Ring or Balatro/Vampire Survivors also aren’t really cutting it; i need something new, something fresh
It then occurred to me maybe what i’m looking for isn’t necessarily a “Chill game” it’s more a game where there is little in the way of “Brain needs to be turned on”
Got me thinking of hack n’ slash games or just like horde shooter style games (I’ve played Warframe a lot and unfortunately that’s falling into the same scenario as the above mentioned)
I’ve been looking for open-world games where exploration is genuinely one of the strengths of the game, rather than just having a large map.
The problem I keep running into is that whenever I find recommendation threads for this, almost every game seems to have the same criticism in the comments: the world is empty, exploration is repetitive, there’s nothing interesting off the main path, or it’s mostly just map markers/collectibles.
So I’m specifically looking for games that actually beat those criticisms.
Some examples:
In Dying Light: The Beast, there’s an optional gamemode that essentially disables zombie respawns, so places become permanently safer the more you clear the area out.
I haven’t played it but IIRC in Death Stranding, you regularly improve regular travel routes which has a massive effect.

kenshi is one of the usual suspects of this sub when it comes to (quite) a few niches where some of the time it has no business for being there. the main one that interests me is this :
“i want a game with living breathing world where things happen without player input where you are just a guy like everyone else
-oh really? kenshi is just the game literally made for you! “
is it tho? i mean sure in some rare instances you can have a beak thing chase you that stumbles into a town you were heading and slaughter the NPCs (who don’t respawn usually unless they are guards) in the process, but is that really an example of living breathing world? or it is actually just emergent gameplay done well ? because the example literally was initiated by the player. there is no dynamic adventurers in kenshi who might initiate that sequence of events themselves , there is no animal migration that can cause this (an extreme example but I’ve heard the dev for …
Might sound weird, but are there any games in which actions like clearing Dungeons has an actual positive effect on the world?
As an example, something like clearing a bandit hideout in Skyrim, but instead of respawning, the hideout remains cleared.
Simply something that makes the world feel safer after one takes out threats like that.
I have mine set to an all in one action button I found in here forever ago. I barely use the button, so I’m wondering what’s good. So far I removed a couple things and added Shazam to try as an option, bc it’s a default one in the normal action button menu. The most use I get out of the all in one button is the ease of restarting my iPhone when needed.
I don’t currently see the pro of the button and would love to know what other people think. Like, how are you making the most use of the button?
I hope I used a good flair
Hey everyone, I’ve been working on an app called Ink. The idea is simple: I wanted to see my day the moment I pick up my phone, without unlocking it or adding another widget.
Ink renders your upcoming events, to-dos, and notes straight into a lock screen wallpaper. You pick a template, choose which calendars and reminder lists feed it, and the app generates the image. A Shortcuts automation then sets it as your wallpaper every morning, so your lock screen always shows today’s schedule.
What it does:
One honest caveat: this is a wallpaper, not a widget. It refreshes once a day (or …
A few years ago, I shared a tutorial in this subreddit showing how to automatically log transactions made at physical payment terminals via Apple Pay using Apple’s Transaction Trigger. With today’s release of iOS 27, however, Apple has introduced a new Automation Trigger in the Shortcuts app called Notification, which makes this approach significantly more powerful.
Compared to the existing Transaction Trigger, which has been available since iOS 17, the new Notification Trigger has one major advantage: it works not only for Apple Pay purchases made with an iPhone at physical payment terminals, but also with any app that sends transaction notifications (incl. your bank).
For this tutorial, I’ll use my own expense tracking app, Budget Flow, which also offers a new Extract Transaction Info Shortcuts action that can automatically extract the amount incl. currency from transaction notifications and, on devices that support Apple Intelligence, also determine the category …
It’s a screenshot copy just like on windows when u take a photo it saves to ur clipboard. This is using the new screenshot automation.

I already knew from this subreddit and some videos that Automations were gonna be converted to Shortcuts, but now that I updated I see how bad it is.
I have duplicates all over the place, automations that Run X Shortcuts, now I have both, and the naming is bad too, like just App1, App2, Time of Day.
Now I have to go through the list and figure out which one is which, add the Condition to the real shortcut and Delete the new redundant ones.
This could have been handled better I think, for example, if I run X shortcut at 12PM, just add the condition to the shortcut it runs, don’t make a new one.
