so this is an automation that basically takes you to homescreen and locks your screen if you open a social media app. the second part prevents it from running if you’ve made the right choice and closed the app right away.
huge thank you to r/vrachamis for the script!!!
sorry for the messy post lol still figuring out reddit. will post screenshots in the comments. also there are random pauses cus I was referencing back 😆 share also if you add any extras! i was trying to add a notification that’ll berate me as suggested in my original post and/or a countdown persistent notif that’ll show how much time I have left before it locks my screen but i’m nowhere near talented enough to figure that out. I added this for my IG, FB, and YT apps and if you do this you need to change AppState.txt in everything you added it to into something specific to that app so the scripts don’t fail (eg AppStateFB.txt)
I have automations that collect temperature data from my HopePod, BroadLink RM4 Pro and the current weather throughout the day. Then this shortcut pulls the data from a note and populates a graph. It’s not perfect but it was fun (and painful) to make!
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/e0372b3bc3524ff8989f6063ec2ad2ff I have created the following small shortcut to display the hourly and total rain probability for the next 8 hours every morning. During the Shortcut‘s setup the number of hours to check can be adjusted (maximum 24). If the notification is longer than 256 characters, a “show result” action is used instead, so that the text is not truncated. The shortcut is best suited for a simple scheduled automation every morning, but can also be used manually or in other ways. Whether it is a good idea to pack an umbrella or not is decided when the absolute probability of rain is greater or less than 50%.
Have fun 😉
Earlier this year I released Switchblade, the first self-hosted Apple Shortcuts distribution platform — your very own RoutineHub on your own infrastructure. Today I’m back with three exciting new announcements related to Switchblade!
Today I’m releasing Switchblade v1.1. You can find the full change log here, but I’ll provide a very brief overview for you below:
- New multi-factor authentication flow (optional!) which allows you to do MFA as a second step after logging in if necessary rather than requiring the one-time password to be submitted at the same time as the username and password
- Search filter for shortcuts, which allows you to submit a search term and get back shortcuts with matching titles, headlines, or descriptions.
- Search filter for versions, which allows you to submit a search term and get back versions with matching version numbers, release notes, or iCloud URL.
- Feature flag list which indicates what new …

I recently shared boxoholic, a shortcut that bulk-creates printable inventory labels with sequential ID numbers and QR codes.
Just in case anyone is actually using it for its original purpose (personal inventory management) here a companion shortcut: boxophile is a minimalistic inventory management interface; it does three things only:
That’s it. No editing functions; all editing is done in the spreadsheet.
I have no idea if anyone actually needs this but I already love it! I can totally walk through my basement now, scan the bottom container in a stack, learning it is half full with bike tools and cleaning …
Can you guys recommend me podcasts like Behind the bastards without the annoying guests who go on random tangents and cut in constantly and the constant giggling at random points. I love the topics covered but I can do without the points I mentioned above. Any recommendations?
I’ve seen photos of some of them and my brain says “nope I have my own version already” and it’s impossible to shake my mental image.
I don’t mean this in a negative way. It’s not like I think they look better than they do irl it’s just different!
Hi everyone,
Not sure if this falls under FAQ.
I’ve listened to podcasts since high school and now I’m two years out of college. Here are some of my favorite episodes:
As stated in the title I am looking for some non fiction podcasts that isn’t full of the speaker/speakers hamming it up. I am not interested in a podcast that is mostly friends joking around/relies on the speaker’s personality and banter. No shame to anyone who enjoys that vibe. I just want something that covers interesting material without feeling like I have to get through six in-jokes before the facts are presented.
Edited to add: thank you all so much! I cant wait to start working down the list. I sincerely love how many niche podcasts there are
Mine is Stuff You Should Know. I listen to it almost every night, and it’s actually gotten to the point where I can’t even listen to it during the day because it makes me too sleepy lol. Some times though the topic is too interesting, I stay awake and listen. Recently the Auto-tune episode kept me up haha. Also I feel like Stuff You Should Know does not get enough recognition. It’s been around since 2008!! Thats so impressive! Also Also I just LOVE the chemistry between Chuck and Josh have. They have the BEST banter and are just genuinely sweet guys.
I know podcasts and content creators want to make money with their content: totally fair and understood. I would too if I hosted a podcast.
But as a listener, I always find myself hitting the 30-second skip button (since most podcast ads are 30 seconds, sometimes 60 seconds). Especially if the same podcast has the same ads.
It got me thinking: are podcasters actually benefitting from this? If a lot of people are hitting that 30-second jump skip, then those ads might not get heard by a lot of people.
I became permanently disabled due to a workplace injury. I am now unable to work. My career was my dream job, and I honestly thought I would work for 40 years then retire. Obviously it’s not just about my career, but the impacts on my personal life too. I am grieving for the life I thought I would have, and honestly, sometimes (and I hate to admit it) I slip into self pity.
I’m after a book(s) that will help me grieve and move on from the future I thought I would have. Open to fiction as well, if the story will help me process my situation.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
It can be any genre, fiction or non fiction. It should be a book you’ve read at least twice but preferably more times, by choice (not for an assignment). Mine would be The Great Gatsby which I’ve read 3 times
He was really young - only 47. He was a very ill man with multiple illnesses and i was a caregiver. Anything to help me cope?
I don’t want my mind coming up with depressive thoughts like “I could’ve…”, “I should’ve…”, “I would’ve been in a better state right now if I had…”, etc. anymore. My motivation to do anything decreases until I end up doing nothing for the rest of the day. I get consumed then the cycle repeats.
It reaches to the point where I monologue to myself, “Do you really want to live if majority of the time, your regrets always haunt you? That you’ll always be ashamed of yourself regardless of how improvement you think you’ve done? You always think about how things could’ve turned out significantly different had you made a better choice. You’ll never be at peace.” I end up spiraling in suicidal ideation too.
Help me out. Please recommend me books that can stop me from ruminating any more.
Being stuck in bed for days, months, years on end is depressing! It’s beautiful spring and here I am still in bed. So I need you to help me out! What book (or series) is captivating, engaging, fun, adventurous and relatively easy to read? I’m feeling low and missing out on life is really hard sometimes. I’m hoping finding a book to read might fill some of the gaps of missing out… Thanks!
I’ve always liked the idea of having this hidden apartment or hideaway that only I or a couple of people know about. I think that I became fascinated with the idea when I watched the safehouse scene from Spykidswhen I was a kid.
Edit: Doesn’t have to be young adult or anything related to spy kids haha! Was just giving a reference of where this sort of fascination has come from. Thank you all for these amazing suggestions so far.
Depression is starting up again, and I’m looking for games to counteract it. Big open world games have been too overwhelming during these times, and this is proving true again when I tried picking up Tears of the Kingdom. Trying to avoid detail oriented or sad games as well. What are your go to games that fit this?
Edit: thank y’all. I wrote this this morning thinking I might get a handful of responses, but I just checked and y’all are so kind. Hopefully things get better soon and I won’t have to make it through this list while feeling like this. Again, thank you. Needed this dopamine.
What’s a good game to play with my wife?
She’s not a gamer, but likes the idea of games. She’s not into games with a lot of fighting. We each have a PC, but hers is pretty basic.
We did Stardew Valley already and it worked great. The combination of working together, but being able to do our own things, having limited combat, and having lots of variety and cute/fun stuff all around worked out really well.
She liked Overcooked, but we can’t get as much mileage out of a game like that, so I’m hoping for something that will last a while.
Thanks in advance!

Update: Thanks a ton to everyone who shared a suggestion. We’ll be going through these comments and I’m sure we’ll find some great stuff to try!
You might find it funny to hear: I told my wife after I posted this and she said, “Or we could just play Stardew Valley again…” so I don’t know what will actually happen.
And if you’re curious, …
There is a very unfortunate lack of games that do anything beyond a HP bar, and I’m looking to find them. Stuff like gunshot wounds taking weeks to heal, permanent scars and trauma, blood loss etc. are all right up my alley.
I’ve already played darkest dungeon, rimworld, CDDA, project zomboid and dwarf fortress, and while rimworld and dwarf fortress are great examples of what I’m looking for, I’d rather move away from the colony management genre.
Edit: thanks for the suggestions everyone! If possible I’d like more suggestions focusing on permanent damage and such.
I was wondering what people play for a good ol’ grind. I know the games like Lost Ark, Black Desert, Minecraft, Rimworld etc. - but it seems nothing like that came out in the past 6 to 24 months? And New World is dead for the second time?
Also had an eye on Path of Exile and I know that D4 is coming in June. But even on twitch, nothing really new is being played!? I know that I am not asking for a specific genre, but I hope it’s kind of clear what I am looking for.
Another example is Monster Hunter. I had the feeling that Worlds was played way more than the new GBA-like release.
my favourite grinders are souls-games and alike and here and there something like total war or even ff14.
Hello everybody, so my friends and I are conducting a challenge where we’re going to play a hard game for the first time and see if we can beat it in a day. The winner is the person who beats it or get’s the farthest in it. Thing is, we’ve played most mainstream games like these (sayyy Dark Souls or Binding of Isaac or Celeste, you get the idea). We’re trying to look for something relatively obscure, something that we can go in blind and try our hand at.
Another thing we want to emphasize is that the game shouldn’t be graphic intensive; it needs to be something that a laptop with low specs can handle well.
Personally I loved some of the CoD campaigns, CoD 4 through to MW3 + newest CoD are probably my favourites + the Battlefield campaigns were pretty great as well
Aside from those though I’d have to say -
Portal, Half-Life, Terraria, Castle Crashers, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
Souls game (Elden rings my favourite right now), Halo, Gears of War, Borderlands, God of War and the early Assassins creed games

I’m in dire need of something new to scratch the itch ;-)
