Lurker here that got all his knowledge from this subreddit.
Based on the current topic/this article that 3rd party clients might have to shut down due to the api pricing:
https://9to5mac.com/2023/05/31/reddit-may-force-apollo-and-third-party-clients-to-shut-down/

Seen a lot of ‘Apple’ people move over to Mastodon when Twitter killed 3rd party clients.
Now I’m interested in the opinion of longtime and regular contributor in this subreddit who basically run the subreddit:
Will you visit r/shortcuts less often and this place might ‘die slowly’ if Apollo and other clients aren’t available anymore?
Aside from Discord, is there already a potential Reddit-like place that could be the next go to destination for Shortcuts questions?

EDIT: Thank you for all your replies! It sounds like this place is here to stay with some potential losses.
Hi, this shortcut I created gets the latest satellite image from EUMETSAT geostationary satellites and puts it as wallpaper.
You can also customize which image to retrieve, going on the EUMETSAT Eumetview site and getting the URL of the image you prefer.
To make it update every hour I used the “Automation Control” shortcut.
Hope someone will find it useful!
Highly requested on several platforms are social media downloaders. In this article i gathered a few of them for your convenience.
Apple has today announced that the free My Photo Stream service will be retired. The replacement solution requires a paid iCloud account.
I find this service useful so am thinking about a shortcuts based alternative.
Then I got to thinking it might make a nice open source project for this community. A few questions though:
Can shortcuts code be merged in GitHub using pull requests? Or is it just one big blob.
Is there an existing convention for doing open source collaboration on shortcuts already?
Is GitHub the wrong place, perhaps an existing shortcut sharing place like https://routinehub.co
Is anyone even interested? Perhaps I am alone in using the existing service.
In terms of how to achieve this with shortcuts I was thinking along the lines of a shortcut that runs daily, checks for photos taken in the last 24 hours, upload them to a free iCloud folder. Also check for any new photos in that folder from other devices and download them. Then clean the folder.
Thoughts? Am I …
I used to be absolutely obsessed with true crime - Casefile was my go to, but I listened to long-form podcasts like Serial that discuss murder and rape as well. Then a true crime happened in the family of one of my closest friends, and watching the fallout in the family and the absolutely predatory internet reaction made me sick. Now I can’t get through even 10 minutes of any episode that talks about that stuff, but the itch is still there to hear about mysteries and solutions.
Some podcasts I like that have scratched the itch:
Lost Boys (Chameleon) - an intriguing story with no murder
Dark Net Diaries - I LOVE this one so much and there’s a huge backlog of episodes. Hackers and cybercrime! With Jack! Who is so nice. I also love that he has actual conversations with the hackers involved.
American Scandal - Another one with a huge backlog. The most recent season was a three part series about the Cash for Kids scandal, but they’ve also done a season on the Cuban Missile Crisis and …
Hi fellow podcast listeners!
Can you guys suggest some fun podcasts I can plug into while walking in the park everyday..
I really liked “If books could kill” and “Dead Eyes”.. they made me look forward to the walk everyday so something on those lines could work..

I also listened to “The dream- S1”, “WorkLife by Adam Grant”, “Hidden Brain” etc but I couldn’t get myself to listen to “Normal Gossip” and other gossip podcasts recommended on this sub..

Thankyou for introducing me to all the above podcasts, sub members! ♡
Edit: thankyou so so soo muchh for all the amazing recs! I can’t wait to listen to them ♡ I’m really grateful for your suggestions!!♡♡♡
I love the Moth, but sometimes the stories can get pretty dark. Which is honestly awesome that it’s such a broad range of topics and styles of storytelling, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for a heavy story.
This is Not Happening is a fantastic show where comedians tell stories from their lives, so if that was a podcast I would totally listen. Anyway, that’s in the ballpark area of what I want. Stories, but no tearjerkers.

Hey everyone! I absolutely love the podcast Normal Gossip and they post few episodes at a time which means its super bingeable!
ive been looking for other podcasts like it and discovered a few through this subreddit but nowhere near as good or similar to Normal Gossip BUT
I just discovered Petty Crimes! people write in petty non crimes they have experienced or done themselves like getting their neighbors cars towed and things like that. Super funny lighthearted and just fills that same space so if any of you love normal gossip I hope you try this and like it too!!

I (28f) started this week (first time in years I’ve read a fiction book) completing A Little Life, Red White and Royal Blue & Pachinko. I have found that I don’t wanna drink at all when I’m reading and that I hardly touch my phone. I have felt MILES better this week. I’ve loved those books so anything like those are welcome but also I want some really really good romance. I want to say I’m not into fantasy but I do love The Edge Chronicles still (but maybe it’s just nostalgia) so maybe! I also love Murakami and I loved Pet Sematary by Stephen King but horror is not my thing (I didn’t think that was scary, I just loved his style)
Basically I wanna be clogged up to the max with book recommendations because I am really loving this zone I’m in and I feel healthier than ever and just wanna continue.
No matter what genre, just the best (just one!)?
Trying to get some recommendations on genres i maybe never heard of.
Books that make you go “Ahh.. this is what living feels like..” be it mundane or what, but it makes you feel this is living at its best.
P.S. English is not my first language. Therefore, I am sorry for the confusion!
I mostly read fiction, but I’d be interested in any suggestions! Mystery, historical fiction, and sci-fi are a few of my personal favorites.
edit - First of all, thank you for all the great absolutely 100% phenomenal suggestions! Many of them are so on the money that they’re already favorites of mine. It’s a bit hard to keep up, but I promise each and every one of these is being good-readed.
Also, to answer a question I’ve seen a couple times, this is a solo trip - no kiddos. So feel free to suggest anything.
I need a modern page turner to kickstart my summer reading. Thank you!
I’ve been reading some good books lately now I want to bore myself. I’m looking for boring books with tedious writing, plots that should’ve ended chapters ago, dull dialogue, overly descriptive writing that goes nowhere, or books with dull plots. I’m interested in what others find boring.
What are those games where you just sat back, mind swirling, just an amazing experience.
One that you just wish you could experience again for the first time but it’s no longer possible.
Just wishing that your memory could be erased so you could play it fresh again.
I really love magic and i love the idea of the wizard in a tower studying magic to be more powerful, im not looking for something like Skyrim where your magic becomes more powerful as you kill enemies, im thinking of a game where your magic becomes more powerful as you study and discover ancient tomes.
Thank you!
SOMA has to be the best, the most realistic, the most profound and most relevant story and an idea for a story I’ve ever witnessed in a video game. It really raised the bar for me.
Do you know of any other game that realizes its scenario in a highly realistic, relevant way?
It doesn’t have to be a horrror, a walking sim or whatever - all I want is a game with a story so relevant it just makes you really think about it.
I already played MGS2, NieR Automata and Planescape Torment.
I like doing math but if I just need to take notes to remember things that’s cool too
I’m not sure if most people would agree that these games are similar in any way, but for me they all gave me a very specific feeling of wonder and curiosity, like I wanted to fully immerse myself in this new strange world and uncover all of it’s mysteries.
Some other games that come to mind that kind of gave me this feeling are Stardew Valley, Ace Attorney and maybe even Hades to an extent.
Basically I’m looking for games that have fleshed out lore, characters and a world that you have to explore in order to make progress and learn more about the story. I know this is a very broad description but I hope maybe people who played the games I mentioned get the feeling that I’m talking about :)
I’ve got a Steam Deck, a Switch and a PS4. I’m looking for something I can play at the end of a long day of working and looking after my young children. Both of those activities are mentally draining and I find myself wanting something I can just stick on for half an hour or so and feel like I’ve had a rich experience but one that’s not too stressful.
I’m a big follower of the gaming scene and I’m aware of lots of games, I’m just struggling to come up with ideas.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
