For example I always dreamed of going on Jeopardy and took interest in everything from geography, history, literature, film, current events, and just generally understanding the world around me. Years ago I stopped caring, stopped reading, and started spending all my free time on trash TV and napping. I’m slowly recovering but still just kind of sensitive. And my brain still feels out of practice. Any recommendations?
I love eye opening podcast episodes, maybe spiritual, self help, inner healing, everyday life, live events, science, maybe comedy, maybe pure entertainment. It takes a lot for me to stick with a good podcast, so i would love to see some suggestions. I have seen a lot of these threads and have been through many episodes!
Edit*** here are some of mine (i love deep thinking and spiritual type genre right now)
The inner landscape of Beauty- John O’Donohue speaking about how healing stepping into nature can be

Nick bare- The power of commitment. This man has truly changed my life. He is the perfect example of a leader, family man, and buisness owner. As a woman, he has set my standards so high and his podcasts are invaluable, especially his older solo episodes. Ex military, hybrid athlete who focuses on fitness and business ownership. …
Loved Serial, Cold, Bone Valley, Hunting Warhead, In the Dark, Bear Brook, and many more. Looking for something more up the alley of Dr. Death. I enjoyed all three seasons. Looking for true crime with a medical theme. Thanks!
I listen to a ridiculous amount of podcasts, here are some of my favorite ones lately. I prefer spooky fiction/audiodrama, soft true crime like scams, and some society discussion ones. And, please recommend ones that you like!
Audio Drama
Tanis - dark audio drama about investigating a mysterious place in PNW. An oldie but goodie despite sometimes infuriating pacing, I keep returning to this one.
Rabbits - dark audio drama about an ARG
Tracks/Abyss - a really depressing but interesting conspiracy story
The Left Right Game - based on a r/nosleep thread, about a cursed road trip game
Spines - a mysterious story about an amnesiac with superpowers
Weeping Cedars - a really wierd, kind of experimental horror story
Soft True Crime, Society
Scamfluencers - the presenters have a really fun dynamic, but you’ve probably heard all these scams before
Cult or Just Wierd - these presenters are also really fun, they’re taking a more Oh No Ross and Carrie approach this season and I …
Title, essentially.
Looking for podcasts or podcast episodes talking to people coping with feelings of guilt and shame. Particularly if it’s coming from a perspective of mental health and / or substance abuse.
Thanks!
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with BBD or any other podcast.
Sharing because this is a great white-collar true crime story and is somewhat off-topic for Black Box Down, so might have gone under the radar (pun intended) of die-hard true crime podcast fans.

I’m aware that Well There’s Your Problem also released an episode about this back in February, but sharing BBD’s episode as I wouldn’t have come across the story if they hadn’t made this special episode.
I want to feel true disgust and horror in a book. I don’t know why, but I just wanna see what it’s like to read something totally messed up. Give your suggestions!
I love apocalyptic novels, but in many of them, the perfect apocalypse gets ruined by the government or a band of heroes stopping it or helping people escape it. I’m looking for novels in which at the end the world gets destroyed, humanity ends, or something similar and there is no saving anyone.
I recently read I’m Thinking of Ending Things and I felt like it did this perfectly. I also really love Plath’s poetry, and I’ve read bits and pieces of The Bell Jar (couldn’t get super into it.)
I really want more books that sort of capture that feeling of emptiness/loneliness, so I’m not looking for sad or depressing books, just books that feel like depression if that makes sense. Any genre welcome.

Edit: Thanks for all the recommendations, I didn’t expect this many answers! haha. I have a long list of stuff to check out now!
I like to read classic literature but could be anything rlly, novella, biographical memoir, whatever.
Ideally not lots of twists, but a single good big one
I have this idea in my head and I need something similar or has the same feeling.
The main character is just a plain, ordinary guy who no one pays attention to. His brother or family member was the “chosen one” or the extraordinary one and everyone had high hopes for but they died or disappeared or something . now the main character is forced to step up and replace them or try to find them etc.
Could be a dystopian futuristic novel where the hero is trying to save humanity or just in a small town where people place their hopes and dreams on him.
Just finished The Fifth Season and I loved it. I’m looking for recommendations with a similar premise. Someone who wants to cause something cataclysmic to bring the world/the regime/etc to its knees. And (ideally) not made out to be the villain because of it
Before someone suggests overwatch, league, siege, or some highly competitive shitty online game. You are neither funny nor useful.
Anyway, I’m looking for a gut-punching bleak game. I want to be depressed while playing it and after finishing it
NOTE: If you are currently struggling with mental illness, remember that you are never alone.
Hi there! A while ago, I went through anxiety and depression issues. I was then looking for some games to play, as I am a big fan of indie games. However, I felt like most games I was able to play before then were overwhelming while I was going through rough times. Therefore, I will here maintain a list of games that I loved during bitter times, ordered by the different moods I had when I loved those games. Please feel free to add suggestions, decide which category to put it in.
Because the common theme is that it took some people several attempts to get into the game.
I admit it’s a weird game because it’s a very Kojima style game without the espionage. But man once you get past the first 3 chapters, the mechanic really starts to click and the story starts to open up.
If you want a slow paced game but also want to use your brain bit for strategy for travel, a bit of suspense, a bit of shooting, and a weird yet beautiful story with some science, this is really good. I mean really good. It’s open world but it’s not a free roam without consequence. Every journey you make it keeps on opening up and giving you new gears and structures to help you expand your journey.
The boss fights aren’t that hard but the juxtaposition from peaceful to suddenly dangerous from the chimera rainfall is simply delightful.
It’s a bit of traveling Sim but with some engineering of gadgets as well.
Norman reedus does some great stoic acting …
I had high anxiety earlier today and playing cards didn’t quite help. I booted up Pokemon Violet, and just being immersed in the world and the world of Pokemon, taking time with turn-based battles, helped me out a lot. And the music is chill!
What other games have you played that chill you out, especially if you have anxiety?
That might seem odd but it’s like in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild, Link is considered very attractive. Same goes for Geralt.
Those novels that work as video games like Danganronpa are fine here too. Would prefer they have sex in them
Edit: As in, the sex in the visual novels have a purpose other than smut
I can’t go back to playing Fallout 4 because it’s no longer as fun as it used to be, but I want to scratch that itch. Note that I’m on PS4 so heavy modding is not really an option. Also, I’d be open to hearing suggestions of Xbox titles.
What I liked about Fallout: the sensation of being alone (this is the most important aspect), having to scavenge/find resources, an open world, first person perspective.
Any suggestions? I don’t care if the game is weird, not mainstream or not greatly regarded by the critics.
PS: I’ve tried Subnautica and Elden Ring but they’re not quite the same.
