Hi there! 👋
I’ve created an automation to send my Dad daily medication reminders with a variety of messages using the Text action to keep it from being repetitive. I’ve also included a randomly selected photo of us together. However, I’ve noticed that sometimes the photo gets sent minutes after the initial text message.
Any advice on optimizing the automation for better efficiency would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Hopefully, this will make network issues trouble shooting easier/better.
With the new iOS 17 Standby Mode, Apple only allows 14 Pros to be always on. All other iPhones automatically turn off standby after 20 seconds. Here’s how to keep them on for as long as you want…
Get the shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/579da80e0143425d8f253ca2498e3ceb
Standby triggers when low power mode is turned on. When put under a loop we can keep triggering it.
You can change the REPEAT amount. It’s currently set to 100 but higher the number, the longer always on will stay. (Hold the + to increase faster).
You can also change the WAIT amount. This is how long until it triggers again. Set to 20 seconds to have it ALWAYS ON.
If you set the Wait for example, 25s, standby will turn off after 20s & turn back on after 5s.
If you want to FORCE QUIT the shortcut, just set your brightness to max and it will stop the shortcut after the wait time is over. I know this is a weird way to do it but I wasn’t able to find another way. Please let me know if there is a smarter …
I shared this on r/shortcuts2 before but after some further tweaks I wanted it here.
I (graphic designer, avid photographer) got tired of googling and typing formulas for everyday photo problems and I also dread spreadsheets. Enter photomatik:
photomatik is a handy library of established equations that swiftly solves real world photography problems like e. g.: Will the eyebrows already be out of focus in a 2 m head shot with my 200 mm portrait zoom at its maximum aperture of f/2.8? (Answer: Slightly.) Or: What density grey filter would I need to shoot my fancy f/1.2 50 mm at maximum aperture in scorching sun? (Answer: ND3.) Or: What reach will I even get from that puny Canon 90EX flash? (Answer: 26 meters at ISO 1600 and f/1.4.)
photomatik is easy to use, knows virtually any relevant formula, accepts any input format (decimals, fractions, terms), it uses your custom default values, remembers and reuses your input and it comes with tidy instructions. It is also super boring if you …
Found this podcast a while ago. Sometimes I have a very hard time falling asleep and music doesn’t help and I’ve tried other podcasts. The descriptiveness in her stories are very helpful in letting go of my thoughts and the voice of the podcaster soothing. A plus is that it’s 30 minutes of medium paced talking.
Probably a 9⁄10 of everything I was successful in falling asleep too so try it out when you have a hard time sleeping one night. Only takes me about three-four minutes to conk out.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I just finished the Edge of Sleep after being recommended it multiple times and people telling me it was their favourite podcast I thought it would be… more? The acting was great but I felt like the plot was quite weak and the ending wasn’t enough of a cliffhanger to make me come back for the second series when it airs.
Has anyone else experienced this with a podcast?
I saw a post asking for podcasts that didn’t live up to the hype. What are some podcasts that aren’t getting hype but are actually awesome. audio dramas are my favorite, but any in hyped or criticized podcasts that are actually awesome will do. Here is my list: Audio dramas -The imperfection -Dark air (Carnation Nation!) -Mayfair Watchers Society (first episode is truly terrifying) -Echoes (In)Between -Regina Prime -Call Jonathan Pie -Edict Zero (it gets some hype but not nearly as much as it deserves) -The metal detective Podcasts that aren’t Audio dramas Say why to drugs (it should be part of drug education program in schools) Out there Radio (ended in 2015 but they cover a lot of interesting conspiracy theories including the Clintons role in smuggling cocaine into the US while Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas)
I’m a huge fan. It seems like quite a popular podcast yet I never see it talked about or recommended here.
Are there any podcasts about this? My brother went to Midwest Academy in Iowa in 2006 and he had some pretty traumatic experiences there. I know there are tons of cult podcasts where they interview former members and I was wondering if there was one where people interviewed former students of these programs.

I love Murakami and his particular style and surreal nature, but I am also so bored by how awfully he writes women and generally how they are presented and used within his stories. Any genre and suggestion is ok. Thanks
Disclaimer: I love Murakami, his books are some of the most transformative works I have ever experienced, but that does not make up for the obvious flaws. It’s not meant as a diss or an invitation to a debate. It is just what it is.
I guess I’m just a really old Millenial Millennial who wants out of it all. And I feel alone amongst my boomer types surrounding me.
Hi all,
1st I want to say thank you in advance to anyone who replies with real suggestions. I greatly appreciate you taking time to spread the love.
Ok, so I (34m) am looking for so really good reads to help motivate and get me moving back in the right direction. That being said, I’ve not done anything bad or unsavoury, I’ve just not taken steps to get myself in a more productive headspace.
I’m a new father, working in an industry I hate but with a plan to get into one I love. Just looking for a few suggestions to get the ball rolling.
Thanks again. Much love 😊
She would enjoy any book with a girl that is about her age as the main character, and any book that is contemporary and will keep her hooked (I don’t want her to get overwhelmed and give up). Books that come to mind are PS Be Eleven or Zoe Washington, but I can’t think of any others.
Well Written is the focus here. No cheesy dialogue, no YA. Dark/mature themes etc., doesn’t matter.
I love Robin Hobb, John Gwynn, Joe Abercrombie, Michael Sullivan, Sanderson, Richard Nell, Raymond Feist, Gene Wolfe. .. solid characters, solid writing, solid story.
Iv enjoyed Commune, The Grey, Odd Billy Todd. Disliked The Stand, Extinction Cycle
Most of this genre seems to boil down to ammo checks and weapon assembly or some zombie nonsense.
I need good writing … like Robin Hobb, Gene Wolfe, NK Jemisin, Cormac McCarthy. I mean.. doesn’t need to be on the level of these authors (does that even exist?).
EDIT: Wow!. .. i didn’t expect even a fraction of the amazing suggestions and responses that you have all provided. HUGE thanks to you all and i will 100% check out each and every recommendation (provided i haven’t already read it)
These amazing responses!!! Next week I’m gonna ask the same thing for sci fi!
Idk someone might appreciate it, sorry if it violates the rules of the sub.
Starting off,I really hate the Medieval Fantasy or the whole Western Fantasy type of concept so any recommendations will be appreciated by me.
Does anyone know of a game where you are told what you have to do but not how to complete the task. I’m sort of hoping for something open world where you explore around and find stuff to try and complete the task but it’s up to you to figure out what you need to do. If anyone knows a game like this I would be very thankful if you could tell me the name.
Hate to fill this part with more story than your average online recipe, but boy do I have a story for you.
A while back, I got Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It was fun for a bit, until I saw how other people’s towns were so neat and organized while mine was just a willy-nilly mess of weeds. Since then I’ve given up on games that involved you having to do any interior design or placing things because they only make me feel worse.
But I’m a simple woman-thing. Sometimes I need a break from all the action. A game that can relax my weary, tangled nerves, without any farming or city planning elements. Any suggestions?
