Hello everyone! So I’m trying to figure out if this idea is possible. I’m planning on an anniversary gift for my wife (10 years = tin).
I’m hoping this QR code can give the option to open a single song (or maybe even our wedding playlist) in Apple Music or Spotify. Is this achievable?
I messed around and found how to create a shortcut to open the song in Apple Music and then display options to listen either on the phone or nearby apple streaming devices.
Also, is this necessarily a shortcut or more of a landing page with links to music sources? It seems a lot nicer if it somehow ran as a shortcut but the landing page idea just popped up in my head while typing this.
Appreciate any help!
Is there any new shortcut to download videos from x.com? I used one for Twitter, but it doesn’t work anymore
I dream of a podcast featuring two hosts that role play as gruff lower-class British guys from the early 1900s that talk about the local news each day or week. It would involve pulling old newspaper records from that time period and they wouldn’t just straight read the articles but talk about them in a gossipy way as if they knew all the people mentioned. What podcasts do you wish existed?
Edit: Found! The podcast is called Psuedocide. Generally about people faking their deaths in different ways. Season two is a deep dive into a single case. Thanks everyone for your help!
Hi all, my grandma has isolated herself a lot as she’s gotten older and I’m hoping to help her get started on podcasts so we have a bit more to talk about when I call. (I live away but am visiting this week).
She doesn’t like anything to do with violence or conflict, so the true crime podcasts I enjoy are out. She used to enjoy James Herriot books and I think she’d enjoy stories of everyday life.
So far what I have to recommend are Ologies with Alie Ward, Ted Talks Daily, and Stuff You Should Know. I’d love to hear some more recommendations for her!
Edit: wow! What a helpful and kind community, my thanks to you all :) I have a bunch of suggestions now to check out before I see my grandma in a couple of days. Also, for anyone who likes funny everyday stories I was just reminded of the Vinyl Cafe with Stewart McClain which is a great set of stories of everyday life and hilarious situations read by a guy with great intonation and voice
I’m attempting to reawaken the somewhat-functioning mind under years of routine & cell phone usage.
I am not looking to learn new facts about specific topics (science or political pods, etc) but specifically to wake the ol’ brain up, like hanging out with smart people (intelligent conversation & good vocab, interesting references).
Example: Slate’s Culture Gabfest, Switched on Pop and even sometimes Every Outfit on SATC, while all about pop culture, have hosts with great command of language and interesting cultural/artistic references while still being engaging and casual.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Also open to any non-pod recs, including interesting follows, audiobooks, etc.
My 12 year old son could use some fresh podcasts. He HATES media geared for kids with a condescending host or giggly children. He likes Damned Interesting, History That Doesn’t Suck and Atlas Obscura. He really likes a good true story but I don’t want to give him true crime yet (he’ll obsess). History is good but some of the better podcasts like The British History podcast and The History of Rome are a bit too tough. He’ll probably devour those in a couple years though.
Anything that is funny or entertaining. I’ve watched a shit ton of taskmaster recently so if you have any recommendations that are similar I would be joyful
Or just two Brits talking about their life, because honestly a lot of them are naturally funnny
Name all your favorites. What’s a page turning, unputdownable books that make you feel excited?
Also don’t spread spoils, I like to go in blind with books. But I wanna know what’s yours guys’s favorites.
Write the title and the author, NO SYSPOSIS‼️. (NO SPOILSERS‼️‼️‼️ pls, it ruins the fun of the book)
Name any or all genre. But I really wanna see, Dystopian books, and Fantasy books along with thriller. Sci-fi is good too.
Also comment what book(s) got you into reading?
Mine was Narnia books than later hunger games :)
Sometimes when I’m looking for books, I get sad at how many of the most popular books/authors are pretty old. Sci-fi still seems to be dominated by authors that have been dead for decades. A lot of Fantasy still seems to live under the shadow of Tolkien. Horror seems to be “Stephen King and some other people”. Literary fiction feels like it peaked at least 50 years ago too (based on online recommendations anyway). I’ve found some good books written recently of course, but it’s very difficult.
I know good stuff is still being written. What recently-written books do you think deserve to be up there with the classics?
Edit - Y’all are really coming through on this! My reading list just got insanely long! I have read Mistborn by Sanderson, and I don’t like Sarah J Maas’ writing style. The Anita Blake series is what triggered this post lol.
I am so tired of starting off with a bad ass female character who turns into a lovesick teenage girl by the end. I am dying for a “take no shit” bitch who stays that way. Yeah, she can be in love or whatever, but PLEASE - I want to read about her still being strong and ready to throw down.
Bonus points if they’re also adult age. I’m 39. I like reading about people over the age of 25, though I will happily look into YA options as well.
Hi all! I’m receiving a new fifth grade student to my class tomorrow. She has had a very recent trauma involving losing both parents to violence and moving states to live with new guardians. As the reading teacher, I’m looking for book suggestions that don’t mention parents/families heavily or books that may have a theme of overcoming adversity. I’ve already changed my class read aloud from the planned “Home of the Brave” (gun-related parental deaths) to “Fish in a Tree.” What are some good, safe recommendations that I can have on hand for her? So many books in my library are really focused on family dynamics. She is an on-level (or slightly higher) reader. Thanks!!
Edit- A huge thanks to all your suggestions! She had her first day today and says she loves reading! She’s already checked out “Mr. Limoncello’s Library” (good call to those who suggested that series). Hopefully I can continue to help her choose great …
I’m feeling extremely lost and I lost interest in everything ,I want to start reading again instead of scrolling mindlessly but I don’t know what to start with . Edit : First of all ,I’m genuinely grateful and ovewhelmed by how many people took their time to suggest me a book ,thank you to each and everyone of you ! You my friends gave me a lot to read and I promise to read all of them one by one ,again thank you so much for your kindness.
I love female main characters who are simply just the worst. Vain, narcissistic, Machiavellian, crazy, etc.
Btw my favourite book is Gone Girl if that helps
I am a huge fan of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. And its main story was only about 7 hours long. But it was a really fun ride, it didn’t overstay its welcome.
I want games which are short but fun and it’ll leave an impact.
P.S. It doesn’t have to be actions games just because I said I like MGR: Revengeance.
So i’m looking for an open world game which basically has NPCs doing their own thing, so day and night cycle, going about their day, sleeping at night etc.
GTA doesn’t do it for me since all of the NPC houses are non-enterable so you don’t really have a feeling that they live normal lives.
I think skyrim is somewhat like this, but what other games do you recommend?
I want to introduce gaming to my girlfriend. She’s interested in philosophy and complex storytelling. She practically doesn’t have any experience with gaming except NES Mario maybe.
I’ve tried to introduce her to Stray, What Remains of Edith Finch and Detroit Become Human as I thought the themes and stories of these games fit her interests, however, I felt like she got tired by the controls to progress in the story, and got bored afterwards. She doesn’t have an idea how to play a video game so she takes a loot of time to figure out something easy for a gamer, and whenever I help her she feels like she doesn’t do much. At that point, I feel like she would just prefer to watch a good movie instead of struggling with that.
I recently realized she actually likes “addictive” games such as Candy Crush, but I want to introduce her to an at least mid-core game so she can see the value in gaming apart from mindless dopamine boosts.
What could be such …
This may be a weird request but are there any games like it? Could be semi open world, it really doesn’t matter. I love the feeling of going through a map and killing until there’s nothing left to kill, but A Plague Tale is the best at scratching that itch and it’s not open world
Age confuses this so I’m trying to avoid situations where it’s just generational. Like if you’re born after 2000 and played old popular D&D games because a parent had them still your peers might not know it but that one’s well known. That’s not really the goal here.
But if, regardless of age, you played and liked something that wasn’t popular, didn’t sell well, nobody knows about really? That’s the stuff I want to hear about. That game you’ll defend and nobody else gets.
I’m looking for FPS games where I can play simple gamemodes like team deathmatch or anything similar that isn’t too strategy based, I’m looking for just simple fun and nothing too complicated or competitive, preferably something with a medium time to kill, no instant kill guns but no overly spongy enemies.
I’d rather play a multiplayer game but I’m not against trying singleplayer games.
I’m not really into strategy focused games like Valorant or CSGO, I’ve played Splitgate a bunch when it was still alive and but it kinda lost its charm when I played it again recently. Fortnite was fun but it feels like updates are just randomized and it’s not really that fun anymore.
I don’t really buy games outside of Steam, I’m also down to play some games on Roblox if they’re good and don’t mind downloading a game outside of Steam if it’s free.
Also I really don’t care if the game gets updated often or whatever …
