For me, I would have to say control over the settings app.
I was worried I might forget my new kid in the backseat so I made a shortcut. I have it set up as an automation so that when the car disconnects from CarPlay or a cars Bluetooth it triggers. It’s a good reminder to check the backseat: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d63bfc509280464593f61f01fa1bb88d

Does anyone else feel like podcasts are almost impossible to listen to and enjoy anymore? When I first started listening to podcasts they were fun, experimental, and free of corporate influence and control. They were new alternatives to tv, radio, Sirius/XM, etc. that were for the most part commercial free and offered content that was unrestricted.
Almost every podcast I listen to now is packed with commercials and ad reads. I’m so tired of hearing that my favorite podcast is being brought to me by Manscaped or any other bullshit company’s product. I just want to listen/watch without the constant interruptions. It’s worse than tv because at least when the tv show is going to commercial you know it’s coming. Now on podcasts there will be something funny or insightful or even genuinely sincere and it’s interrupted by a damn Adam and Eve ad read.
Sorry for the rant, but it just sucks that pods have changed so much. They used to be a fun hang but now they just seem like old tv shows on …
I’ve noticed that I often “hit a wall” when it comes to certain podcasts/podcasters. Some of these often spend time as my favorite podcasts. I remember one podcast used to be one of my “comfort” podcasts. The hosts almost felt like old friends, their voices felt familiar and comforting. I don’t want to get into specifics because I’m not here to criticize anyone (also why I’m not naming the podcasts/podcasters) but at one point I noticed something about the content of the podcast, and as I continued to listen this observation seemed to be reinforced, and slowly that old familiar comforting feeling kind of dissipated. This has happened several times with me.
In a weird way it’s not that dissimilar to some personal relationships. With personal relationships you have the option of identifying and working on problems. If two people choose not to directly work on the developing issues, it can lead to the dissolution of the relationship. …
We’re headed out on our Thanksgiving road trip, and I need some recommendations for documentary style podcasts that are not traditional true crime. We’re not into the whole pageant queen goes missing in a small town, who dunnit kind of thing.
I’ve listened to all the hits (The Dream, Dolly Parton’s America, Missing Richard Simmons, etc.), and would love to hear some of your most underrated faves. Some of my recent obscure faves include Boomtown, Last Seen, and California Love: K-Pop Dreaming.
The preferred format is a 3-10 episode season, at least 30 minutes an episode, on a single topic. It can be on its own or folded into another podcast, a la the 30 for 30: Bikram Yoga series. Topics can range from heists to cults to hyper personal family discoveries. We love a deep dive, and are not picky on the subject matter, it just has to be structured and interesting. Bonus points for good audio, interviews, and mid-production discoveries.
I realize our taste is …
These guys are the best and both these podfathers have lost their dads in the last two months. I know I don’t know these guys but at this point they both feel like family to me so it sucks to hear about this.
Hello all! I’m looking for a podcast I can laugh out loud at that isn’t just Guys Chatting. I really want something with some sort of concept.
My favorite podcasts of all time and the podcasts that have made me laugh the hardest are Off Book (rip), Hello from the Magic Tavern, NADDPOD, MBMBAM, Dungeons and Daddies, Finding Drago, The Renner Files (which is underrated), Let’s Make a Music (rip) and Normal Gossip. I’ve also listened to My Dad Wrote a Porno, Teacher’s Lounge and The Neighborhood Listen, which I enjoyed but eventually got tired of.
Please recommend anything you can think of! I’m just having trouble finding something new to listen to as most threads about comedy podcasts are dominated by chat and interview shows.
P.S. It would be appreciated if, when you share a show, you also make a recommendation about where to start or what order to listen, particularly if it’s on the longer side!
What are your standout podcasts of 2023? Best single episodes? Best serialized show? Best true crime podcasts? Best fiction podcast? Best docs? Your year’s end playlist wrap?
Post and discuss them here.

My dad loves international spy thrillers. If he’s committed, he can go through 1 in less a day. He’s 74 & has been a voracious reader for years. Lately for his gifts (Father’s Day, birthday, etc) I’ve been getting him new books to read.
He took the liberty of sharing with me the other day that he won’t read a book in his genre written by a woman and/ or someone in the UK. His reasoning is that these authors spend too much time in the details & aren’t action-oriented enough. He needs the books to be fast-paced.
So my Christmas troll to him is to find one, if not several, books written by women in the UK that defy his criticisms. If this means that I have 10 different books wrapped under the tree for him, then so be it.
I don’t read much in this genre so I’m turning to the good people of Reddit to help me prove him wrong.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
I see a lot of these lists of books that everyone should read once in their lifetime and I was wondering which specific book you would recommend.
Hello everyone! I’m looking for books to read but I just don’t know what I should read next. In looking for books that are dark, scary or even disturbing. It doesn’t have to be just horror books, it can be books that have are non-horror but are still dark and scary in its own way. Soo any suggestions?
I need an escape book. Something light, could be fiction or non. It just needs to be compelling enough that I want to keep reading because I have 3 kids and am exhausted 99.9% of the time . But tv is boring me and I used to enjoy reading. 🙏🏻
The book you return to again and again when you want to escape for a while. When you open it, it makes you feel like you’re seeing an old friend.
Hi, I love all sorts of books whether they’re a standard fantasy or have a complex plot. Lately I’ve been really nostalgic. I know I’m not the only one who has those treasured reads they return to now and then because they’re just cozy. An example for me is “The Dark Is Rising” series by Susan Cooper, especially with winter coming up. Comment your favorite books that you like to return to. I tend to prefer fantasy reads, but I love all sorts of genres, so feel free to suggest even if it’s not fantasy ✨📖
I dont want lude sex games.
Some examples are;
Bayonetta
Catherine
Lollypop Chainsaw
I love shooting people with a 9mm pistol in GTA IV, but are there any other games where using guns is this level of satisfying? Where they make a nice noise, enemies don’t immediately die from one bullet unless you hit a vital part, cool combat mechanics… You know?
Edit: Well, that’s quite a lot of answers I got. And quite a lot of games to play…
PLEASE ASSIST MY BLACK AND WHITE ADHD BRAIN. PC/PS5
80 hours per week I am looking at big picture issues and having to make decisions about where to go with it. My brain is absolutely gonzo by the time I want to play games. Open world, open decisions, being able to forge your own path, is so desired by the gaming community, and could not be less appealing to me. I do not want to make decisions. Show me where to go and give me a good story. OR let me grind shit mindlessly (WoW) WHILE NOT HAVING TO FIGURE OUT A FUCKING ENCYCLOPEDIA OF INFORMATION (WARFRAME).

Examples:
First two metro games - PASS THE TEST
Metro Exodus - I DON’T WANT TO RUN AROUND THIS WORLD
Final Fantasy X - Thanks for putting literal rails to the map and pointing exactly where I should go - PASS THE TEST
Elden Ring/New Zelda Games - NO THANKS (before you immediately downvote and call me a moron for this, I understand and appreciate that with most tastes they are phenomenal games)
 …
“Wanna know good games about isolation” Subnautica and Outer Wilds
“Oh, I want to play something beautiful” Subnautica and Outer Wilds
“Hey, I’d love to play a frantic game with thrill and emotion” Subnautica and Outer Wilds
“Games where I truly feel like the main character” Subnautica and Outer Wilds
Sometimes I think the people who comment here have just played 10 games and are always recommending those same 10 games. Please…
I want suggestions of that game that consumed most part of your day/life. Something you avoid because you know you will be consumed by it. On all platforms and any part of your life. Tibia, wow, skyrim, pokemon, poe.
Games where you are going through levels alone without a direct companion and besides the enemies the world feels like you are alone?
EDIT: I’m somewhat okay with companions if there’s still a lonely world feeling.
