I have an automation that turns off my bedroom lamp when my heart rate from my Apple Watch is 69 bpm or lower (lowest heart rate when in bed, usually) during a 4 hour span. The problem is that I get a “automation took too long to run” error message (4min later) when it actually runs but when running it manually, I get no error. Some tips on improving my automation or fixing it would help me out a lot.
You can ask your scenario and I will make a shortcut that fits it Edit : I didn’t think it would blow up so much . I’ll try to solve as many as I can
Hi, For over a year ago I made different light scenes for my Hue lights. So one shortcut will set a specific light for my living room and so on. Yesterday it suddenly stopped working. When I press one of the shortcuts it loads quickly but nothing happens. If I go inside the shortcut app and press one of the shortcuts I get this error message: Could not run all lights on/off. Your lights could not be turned off. Please try again or check your configuration in the app.
The very strange thing is: if I use mobile data instead of WiFi there is no problems and it all works. If my girlfriend does it on her phone (on the same WiFi as me) it works.
So what could cause the problem on my phone?
Hey r/shortcuts!
We built a nifty package that allows GPTs to connect to your local Mac apps (by calling Shortcuts): https://github.com/iter-ai/toolbox-macos
The toolbox works by exposing MacOS’s Shortcuts actions as tools available to the GPT. Shortcuts provides a unifying interface for many common interactions - sending messages and emails 📧, organizing your files, lookups on Maps, etc. The server runs locally on your device, so your data isn’t sent to any third parties.
🔧 How to set it up:
The toolbox exposes an OpenAPI schema endpoint that the GPT calls to trigger Shortcuts actions that run locally (the endpoint has OAuth, so no one else can access your machine).

What was the podcast that you loved that ended?
Why did it hit you so hard?
How did the hosts handle it?
Did they end it with a bang with a final episode?
Did they fizzle out and ghost the audience?
Was the end dramatic or controversial?
What was reason given for it ending?
Update 1 : wow, didn’t expect to get this kind of response 300 Comments in 6hrs!
Really appreciate the comments! I’m sure they would be beneficial to new podcasters for what to avoid or to expect. (Common pitfalls, mistakes etc.)
Update 2. 12 hour later 568+ Comments! It’s getting juicy in there. I’m going to try to summarize the common themes and highlight the notable shows. Save this post and come back for the summary.
Hey guys, I’ve found some of my fave podcasts started as indie ones but since they’ve gotten a bit bigger or trended on TikTok, they’re not the same. Not as researched or just playing up. Others just didn’t have the content to be weekly. What pods did you used to love but now you’ve stopped listening all together and why?
What are the one or two podcasts you’ve subscribed to the longest that you always listen to as soon as new episodes are released?
Mine are Heavyweight and Swindled
its very easy to find “sleepy” podcasts that are meant to put people to sleep but i’m not really looking for sleep stories or calm music, in fact i don’t want music at all any instrument wakes me up. maybe in the beginning and end as introduction and finale but nothing in the middle.
so i’m wondering if anyone has a good podcast thats slightly fun to listen to or interesting but can also put me to sleep?
i know i’m being very specific and demanding but i’m desperate.
thank you in advance.
Edit: wow i wasn’t expecting this much suggestions, i’m a little overwhelmed but also really happy everyone is helping, i suffer from sleep paralysis and usually don’t sleep until i’m knocked out from exhaustion… anytime i sleep i get woken up. having a voice in the background really helps as my head is focusing on something while i sleep, tv doesn’t work as white noise and i found it hard finding anything else, but these suggestions really did it for me. what put me to sleep yesterday was “Sleep …
I have hit a bit of a stalemate with my podcasts lately. Nothing is really hitting that podcast “itch” you know that podcast you can listen to all day, do all your chores, have a walk, listen to while driving & still can’t leave it alone.
Please please help me out of my stagnant podcast puddle…
For reference this is what I listen to regularly & still really enjoy
Radio rental (season 1 awesome) All killa no filla Not today Swindled (recently discovered really like it) The secret world of slimming clubs True crime & cocktails (can be hit & miss but I really like some of their deep dives) Invisible choir
My sometimes if I’m desperate podcasts
Two hot takes Is this actually happening Sword & scale Casefile (used to love this but got a bit boring) The guilty femanist Crime junkie Morbid
And some I used to like but can’t listen to anymore
My favorite murder Redhanded Something was wrong
So we’re starting to put the pieces together of how Andrew Wilkinson killed what used to be the best podcast app for iPhone. Some initial discoveries based on a preliminary investigation that I would encourage a real journalist (I’m not one) to look into.
Castro was acquired by vulture capital firm “Tiny” who has quite the portfolio of companies here that it holds: https://www.tiny.com/companies
Strangely enough, Castro Podcasts has just been dropped from this list…
Mohit Mamoria who used to be part of the Castro team, is still listed as a “Partner” here: https://www.tiny.com/about
What really happened? Might make a good story one day…
But I’m not a journalist, just a pissed off user who is angry that this company took my money, sucked all the value out of my favourite app, and then just left it to die.
Update: Some more details here: https://podnews.net/update/castro-to-close
I regret reading the Midnight Library.
I been looking for some mind boggling screwed up books to read I just found out and started reading tender is the flesh and in the middle of it I want a book that’ll make me go “what the fuck” have to put down and process what the hell I just read
Hi all, I noticed last year that I always get depressed during the holiday season. I think it’s a combination of (1) it being so dark outside all the time and (2) seeing all the happy loving families that I never had (my parents were abusive).
Cozy fantasy books about strong young women help. Last year, I read Sharon Shinn and Juliet Marillier. Their books made me feel so much better. Right now, I’ve been in a reading slump, but I’m almost done with the Lady Trent books, which reminded me how comforting fantasy is. But I need more books!
Could you please recommend me some (adult) fantasy novels that will completely absorb me and help me get through the next month?
I want to get into reading more nonfiction books so I can learn something about literally anything.
But I found most nonfiction books are just so…boring no matter how much I enjoy the subject matter.
I’m really open to any subject: history, science, social justice, anthropology, culture.
I know this is vague but any recs are appreciated!
I’d like to set a goal to read one classic book per month in 2024, but need help deciding on which books! What is your all time favorite classic literature?
Was talking to a family member that mentioned they wanted “inappropriate coffee table” books so I’m looking into getting them a couple as a gift.
Anyone have any suggestions? Don’t have a lot more information than that but any amount of crudeness or ludeness is cool.
Hey fellow gamers!
Can you recommend a game with endless replay value? I’m on the hunt for something that offers longevity, diverse gameplay, and a thriving community. Whether it’s an immersive RPG, strategy masterpiece, or an indie gem, I’m open to all suggestions.
Share your favorites and tell me why they’ve kept you hooked—looking forward to discovering a game that’ll keep the fun going for an infinite amount of time.
Thank you!
Games that i played which have decent AI: Metro exodus, Doom and Doom Eternal, Remnant games, CP2077
Every thread in this sub is recommending great games, but I’ve played them all. Elden ring, witcher 3, subnautica, dragons dogma, stardew, outer wilds, rdr2, bg3, etc etc etc. what’s a game you love that no one talks about? That you wish others were playing? Could be new low budget indie, a great game from 1996, or just something that deserved more love than it’s got. I challenge everyone to recommend a game that hasn’t been recommended already!
I hate games where you meet all these cool people and you never have to worry about their safety since game writers are pussies so give me some hurt and worry

Any genre, release date, platform. Please and thank you
The obvious example is No Man’s Sky, but maybe there are more games that had really bad/disappointing start but then Dev Team fixed bugs/removed bad ideas and designs that made the game better.

Other example from the top of my head - Death’s Gambit: Afterlife - one big patch made an average metroidvania, a really good one.

What else can be put into that bucket?
Hi all, I have just updated my pc and now I can finally play any of the newer games that came out recently.
What have your favourite pc games been in the last couple of years?
Rogue likes and games where you have a lot of puzzles are not my favourites, anything else I am open for.
