I’m wondering if anyone else was hoping the new Journal app might be a place that could automatically collect data from their personal Apple ecosystem using automations with Shortcuts. An app where I could look back at a day from the past and see what music I listened to or locations visited. The first thing I did after the update was to check Shortcuts and was incredibly disappointed to not even see the app available in Shortcuts.
Point your phone and run the shortcut. I added it to my home screen to make it easy. It’s so fun to see the description it comes up with!
Requires your openAI api key and GPT4 access

Requirements, you need to have access to gpt4v according to this guide https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/vision
I just updated “Shortcut Hub” to version 3.0 with a major change: A new settings menu within the shortcut that lets you adjust settings seamlessly while running it. This took me hours to implement, so please check it out!
If you’re wondering what Shortcut Hub is, it gives you easy access to all your shortcuts in one list, so you can access them anywhere. It also has a search function.
More info + Download: https://routinehub.co/shortcut/11981/
Fun way to take a picture! Point at something and run the Picture This shortcut!
Behind the scenes your phone will send the photo to OpenAI and ask GPT4V to describe the photo. This description will then be sent to Dalle-3 to generate a photo. Finally this will be saved and shown to you
You need an openAI api key with access to gpt4 (spend at least $1 on OpenAI api, I’m not affiliated with them I just like their cool tools)

Before I get started, I want to say I’m not looking for people to argue about my political views. I just want recommendations.
Okay, I used to listen to The Daily and the NYT Audio app, but recently I can’t take how right-of-center they are. I think The Onion summed up their reporting of the Israel Palestine conflict with their headline “‘New York Times’ Invents Entirely New Numerical System To Avoid Reporting Gazan Death Toll.” I recently listened to a story on The Daily about the state of the economy and the nyt’s (paraphrased) conclusions included how “people feel worse about the economy because of tiktok” and “people just have to get used to the new cost of living.” The social media thing might be partially true, it’s sorta subjective, but both statements totally undermine how inflation and corporate profits have far outpaced wages and things are much worse for lower and middle income households than they have been in a long, long time.
I want something that reports on a broad …
I have this constant need to listen to a podcast whenever I need to do something. I get so anxious and overwhelmed (due to some issues I got going on at the moment) whenever I need to do something. Be it chores or school work or just simply leaving the house to do anything.
It distracts me from the anxiety of doing that thing when I am focused on the podcast. I washed all of my dishes yesterday listening to a podcast when I couldn’t dare to enter the kitchen. I don’t know if this is linked to adhd. I’ve been putting off writing an email for weeks. Then my boyfriend pulled out his laptop and asked what its about and to whom. Thats usually me helping other people with their resumes and CVs for example. When they can’t get started and need help I am always happy to help. If it’s myself I struggle though.
Now I am looking for podcasts to get me through this phase. There are simply way too many out there, its overwhelming.
I love Things you Should Know and then there’s another in German …
I’m trying to create a list of “most painful podcast episodes” playlist. Podcast episode where things goes awry are my guilty pleasure, when things get unexpectedly awkward or uncomfortable for the hosts I find the dynamic is either fascinating or hilarious.
So far I got a few
-One of the most infamous podcast episodes where things get unbelievably uncomfortable is “how did this get played #23 w/ joey clift where they though it’d be a good idea to invite their first Native American comedian to play the game “custers revenge” (a game where the whole purpose is to rape a native american woman)…. for their Thanksgiving episode. He played along until 23:00 minutes in, he reveals the contention, why he even bothered to show up, and dismantled the hosts for how fucked up their tokenism is. (Gracefully)
I’m still mourning the lingering death of ReplyAll and looking for a podcast that covers a similar corner of internet culture. Yes/Yes/No, Super Tech Support, and the in depth discussion of things like the Wayfair conspiracy and the people who work at Indian “tech support” scams is the type of thing I am looking for.
Things I’ve tried:
I have no idea what they’re called, other than your favorite episode of a podcast. They don’t have to be the agreed upon “best” or “definitive” by any means, though it’s fine if they are! You know, the one you’ve gone back and listened to multiple times, or the one you’d recommend to someone who wants to listen to only the best episode in the series right off the bat. Some examples of my favorite episodes:
This American Life - House on Loon Lake
Reply All - #158 The Case of the Missing Hit
Underunderstood - Lou Pearlman Tried to Send a Boy Band to Space
Thanks in advance for the good recs!
I like history type podcasts, but I’m so sick of the same joke structure where the host talks about some callous action by a person/group and the sidekick responds with the same sarcastic reply. For example, “And then in 1912, the company in charge of the disaster refused to take responsibility and screwed over the little guy.” “Well, thank god businesses never do THAT anymore!”
I got sick of it on Behind the Bastards, and I just started The Dollop and have already heard it. What repeated joke or comment or style of conversation grates on you?
pretty much what the title says, which book had prose or plot or characters so beautiful that it just blew you away?
I am currently in a reading mood where I’m really enjoying classic books. Such as I’ve read A Clockwork Orange recently and am now currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird and have got A Study In Scarlet to read. What other classic books should I read? I want a list so I know what to look out for at the library and bookshops ☺️ TIA 😊
EDIT - (Adding this bit) You guys are really coming through I’m really appreciating all these suggestions and will be referring to this list at bookshops and the library 😀
I’m 35 and want to start reading what everyone calls “smut”. I’ve come across a few but haven’t gone out looking for them….till now. Tell me what’s good
I’ve not touched murder mysteries in a while. I read Agatha Christie’s whole library one summer as a teenager but realised that I’ve never actually read a murder mystery by any other author.
And why is it your most re-read? Have you ever had a book that you just had to re-read right after finishing it?
Did this last year and the responses I got did wonders for my TBR so here I am again!
Suggest away :)
Edit: btw my favourite read this year by far was the Cradle series by Will Wight. Would HIGHLY recommend.
I’m looking for a hobby. What’s the 2023 equivalent of World of Warcraft? Do people still play WoW for hours, or is there better now?
Shes very new to gaming and I just walked her through her first play through of firewatch, shes not into any difficult games and want a “choices matter” kind of game where its story based and her actions and things she says can have a big effect on how the story comes out similar to disco elysium and she also said she wants something with a nice soundtrack.
I personally dont play any story based games so please help me thank you!❤️
In the new cyberpunk DLC there is a spot where you can just lean on a balcony and smoke a cigarette. The radio is playing in the background and you can just take in the view.
What other games have these moments? Where you can just hangout and watch the world go by. Off the top of my head I think of GTA V and Red Dead.
Just started Disco Elysium last week and I’m already 20 hours in. Obsessed with the art style, writing, characters, everything. This is my first CRPG. What other games would you suggest based on this? Open to anything 🙂
The only game I enjoyed so much that the second I beat it I went and started a new game to play all over again, with a different outcome, was Fallout: New Vegas
I just wanna play some tier games so please suggest me some. Thanks!
Edit - Thank you all for so many recommendations, you guys are the best!
