The extra step of choosing a menu when using the Action Button didn’t make sense to me and felt janky to be honest in experience no matter how well Shortcut builders prided themselves with the archaic menu UI coming in between.

This Shortcut was made because I still use the mute button whenever the iPhone went inside my jeans pocket which is discreet, respectful and professional but at the same time appreciated the dedicated Shutter button. However, I was not interested in wasting the action button to opening up the camera app again where there’s a dedicated button on the lockscreen if not the lockscreen itself opening up the camera followed by Spotlight and Siri Suggestions as well where either would be honestly much quicker.

The iPhone 15 Pro has or will have a special feature to live translate, linked to the action button. Would it be possible to recreate this feature using shortcuts? I would guess ChatGPT or any AI models could be used. What do ya’ll think — is it possible?
Saw some old posts on here about locking your iPhone from your Apple Watch, while I was looking for ways to do it. Figured there’d be people that would also find it useful.
Pretty simple automation/shortcut, but useful nonetheless.
This shortcut I’ve personally implemented used to work on iOS 16, but after iOS 17 update. I’m no longer able to use it anymore as it’s bugged “Unknown action”
Any workaround or solution for this?
I’m building a Siri shortcut that logs dictated text along with date/time and location details into today’s note (either pre-existing, or created if it doesn’t exist yet).
The “location” is my current location.
What I’d like is to be able to insert the location as a “map chip” (see image) - i.e. what you’d receive if you shared from Maps to Notes.
Does anyone know if/how this can be done? I’d settle for a hyperlinked image if the above is not possible (I managed to, separately, extract the map image and URL from my location, just not sure how to combine them).
Also please note that the Note would be appended if more entries are added throughout the day (if that’s relevant).
Thanks!
Hey guys,
I recently added my work phone sim to my personal phone, to minimize hauling it around all the time. Now I want to turn that sim off as soon as I get in my car and head back home.
I have found the shortcut to do it, however, I don’t have the option to select which sim I want to disable. Anyone have any idea what I’d need to do/add?
…at least until their last episode.
I’ll start:
I have many other favorite podcasts, but it’s not unlikely I’ll get bored of them one day
I’m looking for a documentary podcasts. The style similar to Real Narcos by NOISER or Mafia by Audioboom.
The topic can be anything: history, science, economics, etc. I want to hear about people who had power. I’m interested in crime, but not some random murders.
Wow is this good. It’s art like this that helps the world be a better place. I have such a huge amount of understanding and empathy for those that got caught up on either of the extreme sides of these issues.
In a way it’s the complete opposite of Reddit in that it’s measured and moderate. It looks at arguments from all sides and finds the validity and truth in them while pointing out the lies and exaggerations and motives to do so.
Thanks Jon and team for such a great listen.
Dealing with an elderly parent with cancer. I’ve been driving to and from the hospital for the past 3 weeks and this podcast has helped to keep me sane and functioning. Sometimes you just need something light and fun. This is perfect!
For me it is probably 99% Invisible, I‘ve only listened to a few episodes so far but the concept seems really cool but the episodes are so short that it kinda throws me off whenever I wanna listen to it. Who knows I might still fall in love with it tho!
Could Castro be having problems again?
I can’t load new podcasts or export the ones I have.
i have tried a lot of books labelled as “funny” but they mostly contained witty phrases contained in a sentence or two, rather than the plot or the scenario itself being funny. Most of the times I end up smirking at the wit of the author rather than having a good laugh at the scene/situation, rarely do i ever laugh at jokes; wit and sarcasm only zones me out and take me away from the plot. The problem may be with me, idk, help me reddit, i want to laugh.
I’m sorry but I don’t think i have ever belly laughed reading a book that was not Three Men in a Boat or The Canterville Ghost, these two maybe were the only books i had a good time reading.
PS: “Witty” titles that i have read and didn’t laugh,:- The Martian, Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy (please don’t kill me), Slaughter-House-Five, Good Omens, books by David Sedaris, Stiff by Mary Roach, One For the Money, Hyperbole & Half, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
the aforesaid …
I’m looking for something good and short. I’m going through so much in my life right now that I can’t concentrate but I do wanna read and be engaged! Fictional or non fictional! Thank you for any recommendation!
Edit: you guys are the best! So many recommendations! You guys made my difficult day way better! I loved all the suggestions! Thank you so much for this
It’s nothing personal against young adult literature there are so many fantastic books in that category, it can just be a little exhausting when that’s all I can find, and it would be nice to see the representation of queer individuals over the age of 19.
So I’m primarily looking for something with adult characters but that’s totally negotiable as long as it’s not ya, I’ll include a short list of things in case that helps.
So if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
(And sorry if this format is terrible.)
Edit: oh my gosh guys I really did not expect to get so much traction on this post I want to thank everyone so much for other lovely recommendations I am trying to read …
I just finished reading a couple of harrowing books about abuse (accidentally) and I’m unsettled because it reminded me of my own abuse. I want the gentlest or most hope-restoring or most inspiring or most “crying tears of happiness”, or softest book you’ve read.
EDIT: Wow thank you all so much!! I might not be able to reply individually but you have all given me so many excellent suggestion, I really appreciate it 😊
This is a repost of an older post that had amazing recs!!

Not looking for YA or romcoms/chick-lit, but books that are emotionally deep and/or aesthetically romantic. Can have a happy or tragic ending.
Books that count:
Normal People by Sally Rooney
Alone with You in the Ether by Olivie Blake
A Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Piranesi for me

Far Cry 6 and Just Cause started an itch they just can’t scratch. What games will let me take part in a revolution (from either side but preferably the resistors).
Would prefer it be a larger focus of the game as opposed to the civil war in Skyrim for example.
Watching channels like dunkey or zero punctuation and noticing most of their reviews only ever cover the first couple hours of the game. Know any good review channels that finish the game consistently?
Edit: I am specifically talking about games with an obvious reachable endpoint (I.e. any story-based game)
Basically the title. What sorta game did you wanna go for a round two the instant you finished it?
I’m looking for a game like West of loathing Disco Elysium or Southpark SOT/FBW with a lot of satire/comedy. I love it when the “Narrator” or the games HUD get self concious and break the 4th wall, even when its subtle and the Game surprises you in unexpected behaviour.
Hey there, I was wondering what game currently has the most realistic graphics when played on latest and best hardware (RTX 4090). Would that be Cyberpunk 2077?
Preferably PS5, but PC is okay too.
I’ve never really been into hack and slash games but I’ve recently felt like I’m in the mood for something like that, or at least I imagine I am.
Key points:
Simple controls, easy to learn, pick up and play. I don’t want a steep learning curve or to have to look up guides or optimal character builds. Fun first, and fun now is the priority.
Combat that feels ‘chunky’, palpable, immensely satisfying, and fun.
A big focus on gameplay. I’m not in the mood for watching lengthy cutscenes right now.
A forgiving game that does not punish mistakes harshly. A borderline power trip.
Not a horror game.
Absolutely not a soulslike.
Thanks for any suggestions!
