If you’re like me and find yourself opening certain apps out of habit then this might help. Asks you to solve a random expression each time you launch the app, acts as reminder to stop.
Main shortcut (include it in automation when app is launched) Secondry shortcut (run it once before everything)
Directories specified in the shortcut might need altering on your part, not sure, first time sharing a shortcut.
Basically the secondry creates a dictionary to keep track if it asked you to solve the expression or not. The main one closes the app, asks you to solve, if correct it re-opens the app, and updates the dictionary.

I used Siri Shortcuts to build an AI assistant called A.T.H.E.N.A.

I also made this illustration for the Medium article LMAO
I’ve been working on my productivity setup for 2024. Here’s what I’ve been trying to solve for:
guiding principles: - solution should be extremely easy to edit and review - use only iPhone native apps for seamless cross functionality and Siri integration - reminders, notes, and calendar are ALL reminders with different functionality. Solution should integrate all 3.
Solution: Shortcut- one button to remember something. 1. Choose write or dictate 2. Enter reminder 3. Choose relevant detail - notes (new/append), date, reminder, etc. 4. Shortcut creates note, reminder, and/or calendar event with the same dates and info and even links to the note within the calendar event or reminder 5. Choose reminder list - today, focus, later https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/efa5031940a8422d883fc5ffd3ed79f5
Shortcut- organize reminders daily 1. Remove reminders …

Send birthday wishes to friends & family without worrying about forgetting the dates.
To have a birthday message automatically be sent, follow these steps:
Download Shortcut and configure desired birthday message. • Remember to include the fName variable inside of your message
Add Birthday inside of Calendar • ‼️ Include the recipient’s phone number inside the Notes section on the Calendar event ‼️ • A simple event title is “(fName)’s Birthday” – 📢🔔 CALENDAR EVENT TITLE CAN BE ANYTHING BUT KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING:
Create an Automation that runs every day at your desired time (I chose 12:01AM). I included screenshots of the Automation I created that runs the shortcut and lets me know if there are any birthdays coming up. • Automation should trigger shortcut to run checking your Calendar for “Birthday”

I’m looking to have a shortcut that does the following: When I run it, it will create a note titled with today’s date in the folder marked “Logbook” in my notes app. Then it will ask what I want the note to say, and if I say “Ate Breakfast.” (or whatever) it will add that to the note *with a timestamp for when I added that entry*.
If a note has already been created for the day, then it won’t create a new note, it will just add whatever I say to the end of the already created note (with a timestamp).
So, for example, if I ran it four times. It would create one note that looks like this:
January 14th 2024
Woke up - 8:03 AM
Fell out of bed - 8:05 AM
Dragged a comb across my head - 8:22 AM
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup - 8:45 AM
I’ll paypal $40 to the first person who puts this together and posts it here. Or, if you don’t want to post it pre-payment, you can shoot me a video of it working on your phone and I’ll pay …
I came with this Shortcut that’s simple, lightweight, and minimalistic for an elegant solution that’s strong on function & utility for merging images either to output Instagram Style Grid or to merge Scrolling Long Screenshots (after discovering Picsew is paid) in addition to wide ones on iOS without having the annoyance to download additional tools or helper Shortcuts as hardcore professionals would force you to usually.
^(Click or Tap above to download)
Merge Images to achieve:
→ Working ‘Save’ function in addition to Share ✓
→ Offline: Only permission sought is ‘Photos’ app ✓

As you might have already noticed, no emojis were used throughout the Shortcut interface.

I’ve listened to a lot of investigative podcasts and they tend to revive around murder. I’ve listen to almost all the episodes of swindled what while I’ve enjoying them all I just want to try something more positive. I listened to a podcast called wind of change which is about a story that a journalist heard from someone in the cia about the song wind of change. It is incredible and I would highly recommend it. I would love something like that
Tell me what you’re listening to and what it’s about! I love all things educational, true crime, conspiracy, space, and bizarre/odd things.
Anything like Interesting Things Explained Well, Swindled, Short History Of etc?
Can’t stand the fake conversational shit, 7 minute intros, annoying hosts etc.
I like You Are No So Smart, Knowledge Project etc but I’m specifically looking for something like the ITEW/Swindled type narration. Topic doesn’t matter, I can find most things interesting enough.
Thanks.
Here are some that I have enjoyed recently. I have found myself listening to some of these more than once and I’m having a hard time finding something new.
The Big Dig
Richest Hill
Timber Wars
Containers
The Vanishing of Harry Pace (radiolab)
According to Need (99pi)
9⁄12
Floodlines
The Other Latif
Dolly Partons America
Bundyville
Boomtown
13 minutes to the moon
Edit to add:: I said no true crime because I didn’t want to invite suggestions about all the murders people tend to obsess over. I’m fine with things like corruption, fraud, white collar type crimes. Whatever type of crime bundyville covered was interesting so things along those lines are fine.
I just want to find a mens lifestyle and mental health podcast that isn’t run by some manic dudebro who treats women like they’re some alien species
Really keen to hear everyone’s recommendations
Please I need some good recommendations, the streaming platform I use is Spotify.
It wont interfere with my productivity at work I’ll just have it playing in the background, I was trying to find podcasts that could make me laugh, I like people who are naturally funny, educational podcasts anything interesting will be appreciated.
I love it when I find a book that I can’t put down. You know the kind that keeps you up reading until 2-3 am. I’m looking to start a new book or series. Let me know what the last book you read that you could not put down was. Thanks! Edit: I just want to say THANK YOU for all the suggestions. I’m a total book worm. I won’t have time to reply to everyone, but keep the suggestions coming. I’ve already started a list for books to read next from your suggestions. You guys rock!
Update: I had know idea so many people would reach out with suggestions and awesome supportive notes. Thank you all! I will look into each book (though it may take a while) and definitely have family time at the library! Super excited about that! I also appreciate those who mentioned graphic novels, as I had not considered those. I especially did not expect so many personal stories to be shared and that has been my favorite thing of all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My partner and I adopted a 13 yo girl about 9 months ago. We are both avid readers and would like to pass that on. I’m looking for 2 types of recommendations: 1) YA books that you can’t put down. 2) Books that will help her with trauma/life.
Some background on the kid – She’s had a tumultuous life. Both of her parents died. She’s been passed around between family members for years until we took her in. She has a lot of social anxiety. She recently became a Christian, and though …
I just read “The secret history” and I had absolutely no idea what it would be about. I was on vacation and it was the only download I had on my kindle. It was such an amazing experience. When I finished it, I searched the name on google and the synopsis had a ton of (what I would call) spoilers!
So, what other books do you think are way better when you read them inadvertently?
Basically as the title says. Im 32 depressed & gay and looking for something somewhat relatable to read. No YA and nothing too cheery.
Looking for a book
Title \^\^ basically books that feel like they take you through someone’s whole life (better if it takes you through multiple generations!) Some of my favorites that fit under this category are
I’d prefer for it to be fiction rather than fantasy (e.g. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue)
Before anyone flames me for saying NMS is shallow, I love the game.
Basically the title. What games are incredibly “Narrow and deep”. Any genre, PC only.
I am looking to play games in any sort of style where the main character either loses or gets beat to their rock bottom. A good example I can think of is in Marvels Spider-Man (ps4) where he gets beat up by all his villains on the roof.
Edit: thanks everyone for the suggestions I put most of the game suggestions into a list for anyone else interested in these kind of games

one thing I liked about cyberpunk 2077 was just walking around night city, now with the police chases it fun to sometimes shoot down cars and evade the cops every once and awhile.
(note i never got into Bethesda games) looking for any good indie games out there -only on pc
Don’t own any consoles
I feel like Apocalust as short and non engaging it is, it’s still has superb body movements over any other I’ve played and makes it seem easier to do my thing when I want to read something dirty and see something hot at the same time. Any other games that are like that?? Thanks btw!
I was playing Dead Rising today at my own pace when I thought it would be cool if I killed one of the major named NPCs. The game let me until it resulted in me failing the main quest of the game which resulted in an immediate game over and forced restart. This really frustrated me because I thought the purpose of having such a system was to make the player pick and choose which events they wanted to prioritize or even ignore. It’s not like this concept is completely foreign to games either. I’ve seen in games like Dark Souls and New Vegas in which there are several quests and methods of attaining an ending; there is no way to “fail” the game besides dying. Basically what I’m asking for is a game that offers true freedom to fail or succeed.
Examples:
I’m finding myself in love with detective games after playing Disco Elysium, and I need something else to keep myself busy with.
So far I’ve gone through Paradise Killer and The Wolf Among Us, and I’m wondering if you guys have any recs.
Voice acting is preferred, and ideally light on RPG elements or “railroading” with regards to the actual detective work.
