I’m trying to get better at using the device to its fullest. My current one is WiFi and cellular on/off (alternating each) when I arrive/leave home.
As the title says, what are some of your favorite apps or hacks and why?
The more I explore shortcuts, the more I love them.
However, I regret that Apple develops them so slowly, ultra slowly.
I’ve been using programming languages for over ten years now, and I find it’s a bit lamentable that we’re only seeing basic instructions like if and, if or, if else introduced in iOS 18 in 2024, which are standard in any respectable programming language and this type of change could come during a minor or medium iOS update, but major and annually wtf…
Just the opinion of a web developer tired of the sluggish progress with shortcuts
I don’t know the cause of all this, probably Apple’s unwillingness to allocate more resources to this tool. But I can assure you that with 500+ actions, we can currently create things much better than some App Store apps. It’s just that without regular and basic updates, it takes three times more actions in a shortcut to achieve impressive results and it is very disappointing to debug.
Tesla shortcut created with prompt options
I created this shortcut for myself, Its very simple prompt option and for every prompt it is the respective command from the app
I am not able to share it without passing my car details if somebody tells me how to share it, i will update
Additionally i also assigned it to my action button and now operate tesla with action button
Story first time poster, let me know if i did something wrong
I was asked by several people to provide a Shortcut that updates an Excel sheet so here it is!
I’m in a listening slump, so I’m coming to this collective to give me the MOST INTERESTING podcast episode(s) you’ve ever heard, and maybe why if you’d like to elaborate. By no means does it have to be “educational” - I’m really up for anything that just really perked up your brain, was memorable, sent you down a rabbit hole, made you go hmmmmm, or otherwise just made you go WOAH.
EDITING TO ADD; damn, y’all really came through. At the detriment of my productivity at work, I’ve started a spotify playlist (booo I know but it’s the only pod catcher on my phone that has a playlist feature) with most of these podcasts. The ones not included are ones I couldn’t find, whole huge series, or by podcast(er)s I have fundamental issues with, but feel free to check it out if you’re interested.
I’m kind of in a podcast slump with all my usual weekly ones. I’m looking for something that is a limited series that I could binge in a couple days. I’m really into any genre at all: historical, true crime, ones about scammers. (I really liked Scamanda recently and the stalker series in Pretend pod).
I think I’ve listed to most of the classic ones this sub loves to recommend that came out…..pre 2020ish? (and if it got a TV adapted miniseries, I probably also listen to it way before that came out. Shrink Next Door, The Dropout, We Crashed, Dirty John…etc).
But I’m hoping I missed some newer ones!
Hi folks,
My mum passed away unexpectedly a few days ago and I’m feeling a bit tender. Luckily I have time work through things, but I would really appreciate some podcast reccs to listen to while I x-stitch in those moments when I just really need to keep quietly busy.
I have enjoyed The White Vault, Old Gods of Appalachia, The Magnus Archives, Witch, I am in Eskew, Ologies, anything cryptid related, the wolverine stories, Homecoming, or anything historical with a twist of mythos thrown in. But I’m open to other suggestions!
Thank you
I’ve heard this on dozens of podcasts, just curious. it seems like it shouldn’t be a problem in 2024
I’ve always been into these journalistic limited series. Narrative longform nonfiction, I believe they’re called. I used to listen to tons of them (from Leah Sottile and CBC Podcasts and Dan Taberski) but I haven’t been able to find anything in the last year or two. What have I missed?
Here’s a list of what I remember having listened to: - Burn Wild - Leah Sotille - Boys Like Me - CBC Podcasts - White Hot Hate - CBC Podcasts - 9⁄12 - Dan Taberski - The Line - Dan Taberski - Alligator Candy - David Kushner - A Death in Cryptoland - CBC Podcasts - Do You Know Mordechai - produced by Michelle shepard - Welcome to Your Fantasy - Running From COPS - Dan Taberski - Missing Richard Simmons - Dan Taberski - The Clearing - Stolen - Surviving Y2K - The Thing About Pam - 13 Minutes to the Moon - Bear Brook - Hunting Warhead - Brainwashed - Heaven’s Gate - The Gravy Train - Wind of Change - Two Minutes Past Nine - The Missing Cryptoqueen - Bundyville - In the …
What are the most polarizing podcasts out there? Should we break them out in categories like: relationships, health, work, culture?
One of the best posts on this subreddit has been about this question. To add to it, why is that a book you’ll never stop recommending? People on here are so passionate about their books, and it gets me fired up to read more! So tell us all about why you love your books so much!
Looking for funny books and novels. Any genre is ok, though I’d prefer fiction, and I’m not too picky about length. I ask not for those three authors because I’m pretty familiar with them already; they don’t have to be super obscure recommendations but those three authors I’ve read a decent amount from already.
I’m rereading The Hunger Games right now and it made me think of this question. For me it was probably that book as a kid but as an adult it was The Institute by Stephen King
Also what did you not like about it?
As an example, one of my all time favorites is Mockingbird by Walter Tevis. I never see it recommended. And now I’m curious as to what other hidden greats might be lurking just outside the lime light.
For me the longest book I have ever read is probably the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix (ik im a loser)
I’ve got a bit of an obsession at the moment with obscure games. Popular games are all well and good, but something about playing something super obscure is just really cool to me. So what are some super obscure games that you love and would always recommend? Any type of game works.
EDIT: It makes me so incredibly happy that this post has done as well as it has! I love seeing people talk about all their obscure favourites and share them with each other, and I have a fair few here I wanna try out too! I might as well give a few of mine that I love as well, while I’m here:
Super Kiwi 64 - I know quite a few people who have played the Toree games, at least the first one, but not as many people have played any other game by Siactro. And while Macbat 64 and Beeny are also fantastic, Super Kiwi 64 for me is something special, so atmospheric with an intriguing world, fantastic 3D platformer gameplay, awesome soundtrack - incredibly short, but Siactro’s games always are, …
When I say immersive I don’t mean the prettiest, or the largest, or the most densely packed. I just mean worlds that make you feel like you are IN THEM. Like if I see a shop I can go and buy something, even if it’s mundane. If I see people walking by they have something to say and they are doing something more than just walking in a loop. That if I do something people react, and different people may react differently. If I see a chair I can sit in it. If I see a door I can open it. If I see a building I can go inside of it. If I see a broom leaning against a wall I can pick it up or at least knock it over.
I’m not looking for all those items as a check-list, just more an example of what makes a world immersive, that really grounds you into this sandbox where you can do more than punch bad guys, where it’s worth it to just walk around in the world and experience it outside of the main missions/quests.
So let me know what you got!
I’m really desperate for games that have you sitting around for a long time doing nothing or doing menial tasks so that when you inevitably do get attacked it is that much more exciting and engaging. I would be totally happy waiting for an hour just listening to podcasts or music just to be suddenly attacked and have to react to it. The only thing that comes even remotely close that I’m aware of is Arma 3 but I do not have 40 friends nor do I want 40 friends.
I’m curious to hear what you’ve been playing. I’ve been slowly diving into Assassin’s Creed Mirage for about a year now, and it’s been an engaging experience, even though I haven’t finished it yet (btw I am an Arab).
EDIT:
Alright, folks, time out! I never expected so many of you to chime in. My notifications are working overtime! 😂 Let’s hit the pause button so I can catch up and read all these awesome comments.
Hi all, I find it super satisfying in games when enemies go down in a single hit (through any means, melee or gunfights), are there any games you know of that are like that?
Looking for story driven games with an emotionally heavy tone. Some that I love are Mass Effect, RDR2, Telltale’s The Walking Dead, Death Stranding, along with CDPR games, the Sony PS games, if you count them.
