Hey y’all. I came from using Android and I used Shortcuts to add some of the quick actions I missed on my phone using the side panel. I made this simple shortcut which can open apps or allow you to quickly do device actions without leaving the screen you’re on. Just add these two shortcuts and you’ll be good to go. Simple but effective

I know it’s not the most complex but hopefully y’all find some value in this
Sometimes I see a YouTube video that I might want to watch, but the length is too long and I just need the gist. This shortcut grabs a YouTube URL from your share sheet (or from your clipboard) and uses summarize.tech to generate an AI summary of a YouTube video. There is a limit to how many YouTube videos you can summarize per day unless you have a paid account, but I use the free account and don’t summarize that many YouTube videos.
i’ll probably start posting my shortcuts here too i guess

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to set up something fun on my iPhone and could use some help. I have a text file with a bunch of definitions, and I’d love to get a random one sent to me as a notification every morning at 8 AM. Here’s what I’m working with:
• The File: I’ve got a file called definitions.txt stored in my iCloud Drive, specifically in the “Downloads” folder. Each definition is on its own line.
• What I Want: Every morning at 8 AM, I want my phone to send me a notification with one of these definitions chosen randomly.
Here’s What I Think Needs to Happen:
1. Get the File: I need to figure out how to make the Shortcuts app access my file from iCloud Drive.
2. Read and Split: I want to read the whole file and then split it into individual definitions using the newline character.
3. Pick One at Random: From this list, I need the shortcut to randomly select one definition.
4. Send a Notification: Finally, it should send me a notification with the selected definition.
Where I’m …
It’s been a tough week for me mentally, so I’m looking for a podcast that will lift my spirits and distract me from the things I can’t control. Not really looking for warm and fuzzy or overly political. Other than that I am open to suggestions.
Update: I can’t thank you all enough for all the amazing suggestions! I was only expecting a few responses, but you, internet strangers saved the day. I plan on checking out each podcast mentioned so that I have plenty to keep myself occupied. You guys did a small thing that really meant a lot, which unexpectedly gave me hope. Have a great weekend, everyone, and hang in there!
He got great guests but hardly ever say anything at all and when he does it’s an unrelated point from his notes? It seems like he can’t even follow what his guests are saying and just goes along by saying things like „yeah“, „nice“, „wow“ non stop.
I listen to: Not Overthinking, The Rest is Politics
I like them both, but find Not Overthinking a bit tech-broey at times. TRIP is great but is politics-focussed (obviously!) and doesn’t span a broad a range of topics as I’d like. Any other recommendations? Ideally some with women hosts, too.
Interests include contemporary issues, politics, culture, history, world affairs, some science, psychology. And tennis, actually.
…Basically a lot of stuff, hence the “general casual chat about cool stuff” vibe I’m after.
Oh, and please don’t recommend Joe Rogan. No hate but it’s just not my jam!
By uncanny I essentially mean the sort of subtle off-base emotional discomfort you feel while watching Eraserhead or The Shining for example.
Not always outright horror necessarily, but hitting on those discordant subliminal notes to put you on edge, building to horror or tension.
For example, the Shaken Baby Syndrome episode of You’re Wrong About. Made me feel deeply uncomfortable, the feeling that it could quite easily happen by some tragic accident, and the instances of people being put away on some pretty shaky evidence
I’m looking for podcast recommendations where people tell stories about interesting/strange/scary/exciting experiences or events in their lives… think “I was attacked by a shark” “I found my long lost twin” “i survived a shipwreck” etc. It might be interview format or might be like a recited essay, but ideally it would be the real person- not dramatised. Thank you!
Anybody remember the podcast Reply All? It used to be one of my favorites, and I know there was a bit of a blow-up before its demise that they were not reporting fairly about some social justice issues, and it seemed like it all fell apart when they were trying to report the story of what happened with the Bon Appetite test kitchen youtube channel.
I wasn’t listening regularly when that happened, and I’m sort of too afraid to ask what actually went down at that time, and why did they cancel the show? But, here I am anyway, because I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a podcast that is similar - news stories about the internet, with engaging hosts. Thanks!
What book had you obsessing over it, thinking about it constantly - while you were reading it, and long after you finished?
Books you were totally immersed in, never wanted to put down, and still think about.
I’m not reading TikTok recs ever again. I’m not listening to tiktok I’m deleting it actually. I’ve wasted so much time reading shitty books that were trending on TikTok.
Anyway I would like a book recommendation the last book I read was tiktok romance rec and I had to force my self to finish it and It took me forever it was so bad. Now in a slump I think I want to read something Sci-fi having to do with parallel worlds or time travel. Any suggestions?
Without giving any specific spoilers, I’m sitting at a bar reading it and crying my eyes out and still have about 120 pages to go. Really unfair for people to suggest it without warning about just how emotionally painful it would be! I feel like I know each of these characters personally at this point, and I already know I’m going to feel a little bit empty when it’s finished.
…But in the spirit of r/suggestmeabook, what other (ideally long!) books would you recommend that make you feel like you know each of the characters involved so deeply? The closest analogs I can think of are either The Neapolitan novels or East of Eden (either of which I’d recommend just as highly as Lonesome Dove!), so I’d welcome any novels or series that strike you as similar to any of those three ❤️
I’ve really been enjoying dystopia or similar recently but I’m struggling to find decent recommendations. I’ll try to list everything I’ve read recently(ish) below. Have I missed any greats?
The Dog Stars The Handmaids Tale Parable of the Sower Station Eleven Chain-Gang All-Stars 1984 Brave New World Tender Is the Flesh The Road Fahrenheit 451 The Power Never Let Me Go Cloud Atlas How High We Go In The Dark
Like the title says. Books that just won’t let you go, in a good sense or bad. Perhaps books that fill you with love or books that still haunt you to this day? I would like some recs to read as my next book.
Mine would be: The Yellow Wallpaper (Charlotte Perkins Gilman)
I have been reading Fahrenheit 451 and it’s emphasis on the value of reading has inspired me to continue on in my reading journey. What are some other books that center around books and reading that youve enjoyed?
Boy, oh boy, do I love me some fast-paced, visceral action combat. From the likes of Sekiro, Dark Souls/Elden Ring, DmC, Prototype, Spider-Man, Borderlands, Destiny 2… there’s so much to choose from.
What game is your personal GOLD STANDARD for amazing, extremely polished, visceral 10⁄10 action combat ?
For me in recent years it’s been Sekiro. I can’t express how satisfying it feels to parry a heavy incoming boss attack and then slap them back with your prosthetic arsenal, sword or Mortal Blade.
What about you ?
Can my on pc or anything that can be emulated. I have been playing Wolverine origins, deadpool and god of war, but am open to most genres as long as they’re not hard.(Difficulty mode is ideal!) Wanting to have some performance enhancing drugs and game. I just want to chill after a hard day of teaching!
Really like those games where it feels like you’re just a cog in a machine and you have to fight in huge battles. Yes, I’ve played Call of Duty (atleast most of them), Wolfenstein, Killzone, Half-Life, Battlefield, and mostly every other popular shoot em up that you can probably think of. I wanna try something new.
Hey y’all! I’m looking to bust a gut laughing - and I’m looking to play a game, too!
I would so appreciate any and all suggestions for hilarious games! Any platform is fine - though I’m a PC gamer at heart. THANK YOU so much! 😊
what game you had replay/have near endless replaybility that you can sure has sink hours after hours playing it ?
My personal favorite is CDDA (Cataclysm Darks Days Ahead) Which i recently played and learn and somehow got this idea to ask.
Dwarf fortress (No big surprises anymore. Even after Bought the steam version which support mouse controller I’ve climb the cliff curve of learning. Although I can sure I had played many hours in LCS (Liberal Crime Squad) and old game made by adam & tarn itself that has still alive due to small community maintained the game)
Unrealworld (a game that make love the finnish culture,Love for the creator)
Battle of wesnoth(Although I still prefer stats rpg rather than percentage but the story, campaign, music and art is really my favorite)
although I want to add more with mobile games and some free multiplayer but I think thats for another topic
Edit : Thanks for all the mention. I hope everyone can enjoy each other suggestion and play to …
I love games that make me feel better than I actually am at games 😎.
Nothing felt better than when I finally beat Bloodborne, or beating Cuphead. But I just can’t be arsed to play such difficult games now (skill issue).
Any suggestions for games that aren’t too difficult, maybe even relaxing, that make you feel like you’re insane at the game?
EDIT:
For the record I am not looking for any souls like games as I really don’t think I’m good enough anymore for them!
